DPA 2015 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphones (Matched Stereo Pair) Reviews

Matched Stereo Pair of Wide Cardioid Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphones with 20Hz-20kHz Frequency Response, 153dB Maximum SPL Peak, Windscreens, and Case

OK, that might not be entirely true. However, the DPA 2015 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphone is one seriously mighty mic - especially in this matched stereo pair configuration! First, their rugged and thick construction, integrated XLR connectors, and cutting-edge mic holders can handle the toughest abuse from the most demanding live stage applications. Secondly, they’ve got incredible SPL handling with a max of 153dB peak. Finally, they sound great on many sound sources, but the 2015 matched stereo pair are particularly excellent on large instruments with wide playing surfaces like pianos, mallet percussion, and when used as drum set overheads. Our Sweetwater live sound engineers praise the natural sound from their flat frequency responses and off-axis rejections that allow the perfect amount of musical bleed to slip through. This matched stereo pair of DPA 2015 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphones also comes with two DPA DUA0220 Foam Windscreens for outdoor applications and an attractive DPA KE2012 Zip Case for safe and reliable transport. No matter how you slice it, the DPA 2015 matched stereo pair, with their wide cardioid polar pattern, are wonderful pencil mics that belong in your weapon rack.

Gamechanger for condenser cardio mics

By Piotr Puchalski on July 18, 2023

It's very simple. This microphone completely changes the perspective on distant miking. Thanks to its wide polar pattern, we can achieve a wonderful stereo image of the instrument by placing the microphones a little closer. As a result, bleed is minimal. The sound of this stereo pair, for example, on drum overheads, makes the drums sound like they're from a record! There's a colossal difference compared to large-diaphragm microphones. Yet, there's no issue with unpleasant transients and high frequencies. I don't know how DPA achieved it, but they did it!
