SKB 1SKB-SC63 Explorer/Firebird Guitar Soft Case Reviews
SKB's 1SKB-SC63 electric guitar soft case offers your reverse-shaped guitar the protection of a hard case plus the portability of a gig bag - all for a great low price! The 1SKB-SC63 gives you the same rigid foam you'll find in SKB's hardshell cases, plus a plush-lined interior that's shaped to securely fit you guitar. A sealed nylon exterior with padded straps makes the 1SKB-SC63 both easy to carry and weather resistant. It even gives you convenient zippered pouches with multiple compartments for your accessories! Combining hardshell-style protection and gig bag-style portability, you really get the best of both worlds for your guitar with an SKB 1SKB-SC63 electric guitar soft case.
Fantastic Case...but doesn't fit my rig
Beautiful and great looking case - Looks like it'd protect your fiddle, also - however, does not fit my Dean Z guitars, and will be returning. I was really hoping this would work out...
The Firebird Began To Cry
Best experience ever purchasing The SKB case from Sweetwater! The case actually arrived from Phoenix in less than 2 days! I'm so happy and proud to own such a great case for my firebird. Thanks a million SKB & Sweetwater!

P.S.
Fantabulous!
I love this case! It fits my Epiphone Firebird & my Epiphone Explorer. Super heavy duty, and I suspect it will outlive me.
Good Case
This is a well made case. The problem I had with it is, despite claiming to fit a Firebird, it does not in fact, fit an Epiphone Firebird. Perhaps, a Gibson Firebird will fit, but not the Epi. Had to return it. Hopefully, this review will help someone else, looking for a case for their Epiphone Firebird avoid having to send it back. Again, the case itself is very well made.
Soft case? Yes!
This is the best soft case I have. It fits my Explorer perfectly. The pouches on the outside as well as the compartment on the inside come in real handy. I would recommend this to anyone.
Great alternative to the massive Firebird case
I bought one of these for my Gibson Firebird V. I was tired of lugging the enormous case to gigs, so this I think this is the best alternative. It is not a hard case and I only use it to take my guitar to gigs/studio dates, and it works just fine. It is not meant to take the place of a hard case, but if you understand that, it's great.
Good Case But Not For a Firebird
The body of a Firebird only makes contact at the lower strap button.
The neck has one point of contact.
The headstock is not supported at all. It pushes into the top of the case.
Pickup selector switch has to make a new hole as the intended hole in the top of the case is not positioned anywhere near my pickup switch.
It's a great poly case but it does not fit Gibson Firebirds well at all. I would never use this on an airplane.
Skb cool
I like the case better then the guitar.
SKB Semi rigid case
I needed a case for my Jackson Kelly. I own several SKB cases already and have been extremely happy with them. This case doesn't disappoint so far. For the money it's a steal. Well made with plenty of storage and strap/handle options. The big issue for me is that it holds several different guitar models, so it's not a snug interior fit for my Jackson Kelly. It DOES hold the guitar, but there's significant enough space around the body cavity that the guitar shifts around when you move the case. I simply glued some blocks of dense but soft polyurethane where I needed a tighter fit. (it's like Styrofoam but more plastic-ish. Usually found as padding in the boxes that TVs and delicate products come in). Otherwise, besides the zippers being really loud, lol, I'm very happy with it.

Pro: Fits a 1984 Gibson Explorer well , lots of storage pocket/compartment space for accessories.
Balanced well as far as weight distribution unlike original rectangular case. Price reasonable.
Con: Backpack-type straps clumsy and removed immediately.
Good job by Sweetwater ; very fast shipping and follow-up.
SKB 1SKB-SC63
Decent though not quite perfect fit for a 1984 Gibson Explorer. Comparison to original case : SKB - better shape for weight distribution, original : front-end heavy rectangular. SKB - lots of pockets and compartments, original-none. SKB - decent zipper original - 3 weak latches. SKB - not quite enough room for tremolo bar , original - OK.
I agree with the previous reviewer ; the backpack straps are not good and were removed immediately.
This is a decent lower cost replacement for and old warped latchless no compartment case. Not advised for travel but just fine for at home .... 3.5 stars.
Always superb service from Sweetwater ; immediate delivery is mind-boggling.
EPIC FAIL
The case fits like a glove around my 2003 Gibson Explorer. It affords great protection from the elements (and my two cats). The two zipper compartments are handy.
The shoulder straps are horrible. They aren't quite long enough for an adult male, especially wearing a winter coat. Also, the ends will slip right out of the clasp while your trying to adjust them. What a way to wreck a guitar. I had to modify the straps by hand to prevent dropping guitars in the subway. I have cheap school bags with better straps.
