PURE ROCK

By Chris Jones from Pasadena, California on January 9, 2024 Music Background: Professional musician

This is THE sound of late 60's and 70's rock. If it is good enough for Hendrix, Page, Van Halen and Angus it's good enough for me. These are almost as good as the old ones. Change out the cheap tubes to some NOS Mullards and you will be in tone heaven. These are meant to be played LOUD. You will never get that sound until you have the volume at at least 7. Forget an attenuator it kills the highs. If you have a place to play this thing it is an experience you will never forget!!!

I love this head, I am the second owner of this amp. The only disadvantage of this amp is its weight. Its simply amazing, I have searched my entire life to own this amp.

I have a early 90s reissue..Can not believe the money for this one!!No doubt its a great amp but im not convinced maybe very rich little spoiled brats that have to have this to be Jimmy Page and have no clue how to use it??Thats how I got mine..Kid said He thought He would sound like Jimmy but didnt and wanted something different..I was more than happy to solve his problem!!!

The guy that gave this 3.5 stars is a MORON

Loud and crunchy

By Jeff from Rhode Island on August 4, 2019 Music Background: proffesional studio drummer

I've owned mine since 2000....The 1959 SLP I have has no effects loop and used PCB not a point to point hand-wired version which the guys at Marshall have made it clear, they both sound identical and no one can tell the difference if they are played side by side....

In the 19 years I've had mine I have also owned several other copy cloned 1959 SLP amps all of those Made in China...All of the copies have had issues with reliability and are long gone now...Imagine three amps lasting me 19 years and this one amp still used regularly is still working perfectly.

The quality build put into a Marshall 1959 SLP explains why these amps remain faithful all these years...

The only thing that I've done to it was I swapped the tubes when they got a little too saggy to my ears...I have had to replace the 1.5 amp bus fuse on the back a couple times in 19 years when I was guilty of cranking my amp using layering overdrive and distortion pedals in the front...The only reason I still have any hearing (somewhat) is that I've used an attenuator most of the time when I crank my 100 watt amps to get that crunchy fat tone only achieve by cranking the valves.

I've owned a bunch of Marshall heads over the years, mostly 50 watt versions but I've also owned a couple other 2203 JCM and a LEAD Master Volume 100 watt heads too and all sound different.

The 1959 SLP is a beast without an attenuator but if you want to actually feel your chest pumped by an amp this is the amp that will do it....As loud as it can get and it get's loud very quickly, this amp stays tight and articulate even at higher volumes what happens is after a certain level a light crunch happens and sustain....

I don't have to say how great of an amp this is all you have to do is own one and if your desiring a little more gain than this one produces just add an overdrive pedal to get that sustain that rings for ever.

Just remember this amp was the amp that put Marshal in the History books...The go to amp when the musicians needed a Marshall with nads. All the greatest musicians I've loved used it...

It a Ok amp nothing like any of the early models jmp or even jcm 800's.
what I mean is the volume has been neutered its really smooth more tolerable at lower levels sound more like a fender with fuller sound. I did not like it so I hade all the capacitors changed to sozo hand wound and the tone stack side to carbon comp resistors it was and improvement but still not there. I spent the money and put nos mustard capacitors it just like the vintage marshall have and now we are starting to get somewhere. I also put the 330uf electrolytic capacitor. The amp has very beautiful clean tone and crunch saturates around 6.5 on volume. I had to remove the .68 capacitor on v2 to much gain and lesson the clean tone. Try it before you buy because you will probly have to mod it to get the vintage tone that your looking for. I prefer a clean amp and pedals for overdrive but that's just me. I picked mine up used so I could afford to do a little upgrades on it.
