Sounds like a unique acoustic, Plays like a sleek electric.
Was hesitant about ordering a guitar online without playing it.
(live really far from a decent guitar/music store)
Spent hours researching what I wanted.
Ended up deciding on this.
After watching tons of videos cranking up my headphones...
Got it..
I enjoyed the tone and the features..
That being said.
I dont like the tuner.. its nice to have, rather than not have it. but.. its a lil off..
Aside from that.. build quality is nice, the neck was sleek. plays like a champ..
The eq bypass is really nice, i prefer that for any lead playing over acoustic..
and the eq it works really well.. I love it.
All in all. One of my favorite guitars, and it sounds soooo unique too.
Sounds like a unique acoustic, plays like an electric.
I first played an ovation when i first started learning more structured techniques.
I found it interesting, and a unique play.
I've had an old acoustic that i've had for 15 years. (old when i got it) it started to fall apart.
bridge is cracked. neck is soo warped. really difficult to play these days...
So i decided to get a new acoustic, but i wanted something i could easily record with.
I spent a few weeks looking over guitars, watching videos (never bought blind, online)
I narrowed it down to three.
1 of them didn't even have a volume knob, at over $, id expect at least a volume knob...
beautiful sounding.
Looked great, but i didn't like the lack of a knob.
the other two were ovations. one being a cheaper than this model, and then this one.
I decided on this one because of the reviews..
When it arrived it arrived in a solid box. everything looked good.
No scuffs, looked as it should. Gorgeous. I love the matte gritty finish.
the electronics are nice, battery changes take seconds.
Love the volume knob, the pre amp eq sounds great, and the variety of sounds you can create. fantastic..
bypass the eq for lead (imo)
acoustically its loud enough to play in a loud room.
but also can be somewhat quieter if needed.
plugged in, sounds great as well. I LOVE IT.
I dont "care" for the tuner, its not as accurate as some others, but its good enough to get you pretty darn close.
Its better than not having one when you need it. thats for sure.
The stock strings (never heard of the brand) sounded pretty unique and good in Estandard.
But i got wicked string buzz in D standard (typically where i keep my acoustic)
swapped em out for my usual Dragonskin Mediums.
Buzz went away.
Sounds gnarly.
Would buy another.
Really sold on ovations.
Sounds like a unique acoustic, plays like an electric.
Great Acoustic
This guitar is sleek and has attitude. I got it to play acoustic jazz and it fits the bill better than even my more expensive acoustic guitars. The op pro preamp is bad a$$. Also thanks to Ed Nystrom, my sales engineer for getting it to me quickly and making the process easy as always.
Buy this guitar. You won't be disappointed.
Amazing guitar
First brand new guitar i ever bought, was nervous about ordering it online as not being able to hear it and feel it. But im so glad i made this choice , this is an amazing guitar, sounds just incredible, feels perfect, action is awesome..the people at sweetwater are really great...dont hesitate or have any concerns with this company, this is where ill do all my ordering from now on...
Return to an Ovation
This is my second Ovation guitar. I was interested in the new matte black look and hoped it would deliver same sound...so far, so good. I did have it "set up" at a local guitar shop and added my preferred strings. The action is smooth and easy to chord...no buzz or intonation issues. The bottom two strings are fighting me to stay in tune (this is a step down), but in standard tuning they hold good.
Possible intonation problems with the Ovations
I noticed a bit of an intonation problem with this model, which I got about a year ago. My guy told me that the string slot mounts on the bridge weren't spaced out (in the different directions, up/down) to really get precise intonation adjustment, and that, since these bridges are hollow, they can't just be filed to get the adjustment, so he had to do some involved modifications. I tipped him good.
And he said that this problem ranges across the brand.
Otherwise, as far as plug and play goes, the onboard electronics and sound are great, and I love this one for playing through the amp, much less troublesome than the much vaunted Taylor ES onboard system. Too much finger noise there.
I don't see this model up at Sweetwater lately, but I am remiss for not getting this out before hand.
