Electro-Harmonix 1440 Stereo Looper Pedal Reviews
The Electro-Harmonix 1440 Stereo Looper Pedal is an easy-to-use looper with impressive functionality. Featuring 20 independent onboard loops, 24 minutes of recording time with unlimited overdubs, and versatile effects, this looper has some serious power under the hood. The stereo inputs and outputs allow you to use it with other stereo effects or two separate instruments for looping performances. Meanwhile, a footswitch jack allows you to connect an external controller for easy, hands-free operation. Complete with an Undo-Redo function, Reverse and Octave speed effects, adjustable fadeout time, and MIDI Clock synchronization, there are tons of options to explore and sonic pathways to explore. Don't let the impressive functionality intimidate you, the 1440 Looper is easy to use, just like the Electro-Harmonix loopers that came before it.

Great looper pedal (mostly)
I use this pedal to store bass synth lines synced with a Beat Buddy drum machine pedal. In this regard it works flawlessly! On the downside apparently I discovered a design flaw. EHX makes a loop manager app so that you can export all of your loops. This way you can later re-export your loops to create different loop order in your pedal. The problem is when you do this the Tempo becomes corrupt and the looper no longer plays the correct pitch of the pre recorded loops. I contacted EHX about the issue and sent them a video of the problem. The good news is, they are showing me that an update to fix the problem will be available in firmware, but might take several months. The fact that I was able to talk one on one with EHX about the problem speak volumes about their customer service and company as a whole!
So Far So Good
Haven't actually used a guitar with this yet, but I was able to easily load some files from my computer. I primarily play/record experimental/industrial/noise music so the reverse and octave features are great for this type of material.
Great Looper
I bought this looper for the tempo control. Great to record a loop and change the tempo and the pitch of the recording. I do atmospheric experimental guitar tracks, and this works great. I use it along with my Ditto looper to create some crazy sounding tracks.
Great, Great Looper
Fist off let me give a shout-out to Sweetwater's Jimmy Hart. As always, he gives me recommendations that are spot on.
After having a JamMan Solo for some time I was looking for a looper that would sync with my BeatBuddy drum pedal. I must say that irrespective of that capability (i.e MIDI sync) the 1440 is a real dream to work with. I find double-taps tricky, so it's a real plus that the 1440 has a separate Stop button. In my hands (foot actually) the 1440 is amazingly fun to use, and while I haven't delved into the Octave, Reverse or 1-Shot, I would say the Fade functionality is pretty cool, as it makes transitioning to taking over a rhythm riff from the looper very smooth. This is a looper with a lot of bang for the buck and I can't be more pleased.
As far as working with the BeatBuddy, first and foremost take notice of three things: 1) the BeatBuddy DOES require it's own special MIDI cable; 2) the "Out" on that cable is a Female connection and the "In" on the 1440 is a Female connection, so you've need yet another cable (Male at both ends) or a Male-Male gender mender; and 3) do read the 1440 manual on MIDI syncing. Once you do all that the combination of the two pedals gives you incredible possibilities. Huge fun, and the drum and loop are in awesome sync.
Great Looper
I finally got around to trying out this new looper and it's just what I was looking for. The midi clock sync works great with my BeatBuddy pedal. With the different midi sync options on both pedals, I can either start the looper from the looper or let BeatBuddy control stuff. The clock sync is spot on, keeping the loop synced perfectly with the drum rhythm tempo. Also, with the dedicated stop switch on the looper, you can't go wrong. A shout out to my sales rep Tyler. I may not always order through him, I sometimes just log on and order, but he always follows up with info updates and asks if I have any questions or concerns. This is much appreciated.
Finally
Loopers are very personal. For the longest time I've been wanting a compact stereo looper with feedback control (the fading thing) that can go directly into overdub. EHX is my savior, been using the 2880 exclusively since 2007. Thank you Electro Harmonix.
Excellent Looper with Ton of Capability
This EHX 1440 Looper does everything as advertised. I do longer song loops and add multiple guitar positions, add vocals with harmonies and it works flawless. Importing and exporting to computer to store and access loops works great!! I now can save all my work and download it to the 1440 looper as needed.
Super great support from Sweetwater - Thank-you!
Perfect for my purposes
When I saw this new looper from EHX, I spotted the one feature I've always wanted but didn't seem to exist, the ability to fade out the loop automatically over a specified time. My live synth rig consists of many (10) small synthesizers running through two submixers, each with its own looping delay(limited to 8 secs). So one group can start fading out (with no hand on the fader!) while I start a new ensemble on another mixer. Now I'll be able to do this with very long loops.
Everything else about this device is simple and straightforward. 'One-shot' is a cool feature, 'reverse' is always fun, and 'octave', well... It's the only effect I really don't care about. (Maybe someday a pitch shift without time change will happen.) The price lands within a reasonable range. And, a previous dealbreaker on other products, it's in perfect stereo!
Dope Loop
I chose this looper for the MIDI port to sync with my BeatBuddy as well as the dedicated stop button (a must for me). Getting it to sync with the Beatbuddy was a breeze and with a few minutes of practice, I got the hang of looping with the two devices connected. I also appreciate the storage so I can load backing tracks for live performing. It's a simple and solid unit that does what it is supposed to do. It is not complicated to use. Thank you Chris Sanders for taking the time to read manuals and talk to reps in order to find the right product for my situation.
Works ok
Could be a little larger format. Hit things that you don't want while using it. Like speed dial, one shot...
Not sure it's what I really needed.
But I'm past the return window.
