Fine work

By Dennis J. from LAS VEGAS, NV

Great investment for my squier. I will get the guitar nut filed in time,I'm novice and this is worlds above the cheap necks I'm used to even with a rough pilot string nut. You can see the light gleam in the frets and it lines up, it's gorgeous. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, don't. I started with cheap builds/assemblies, this would be guitar twenty something. Great product, I'm happy with the neck it's worth the cost compared to my cheap ones

Should have bought this one first!

By Sweetwater Customer

This is my third replacement neck for my strat. The first one I bought was a "Fender Licensed" product. It was completely crap. The second one was a second hand 2007 neck off Facebook Marketplace. I learned that, if someone is selling their neck, there's a reason. In my case, the truss rod was broken. I just bought this neck from Sweetwater, and I can tell you, it's a thing of beauty. I will say, be prepared to do some setup on your guitar. The nut will need to be filed. I'd recommend buying the filing kit and an extra nut for your neck (as a backup). It's really not difficult to do. Or, you can take it in to your nearest Fender-approved technician. Once you get your guitar setup, it will play like an American Standard/Pro guitar.

Beautiful Finish

By Sweetwater Customer

This neck was added to a strat I was building and exceeded my expectations in quality. The finish is beautiful and it fit snugly right into the body joint with no issue. The neck is stick straight. The only two issues, which can be expected with any neck...

Nut needed filed a lot. It's way too high. The edges needed rolled a bit to be more comfortable especially on the high e end. Otherwise it's perfect. I can't believe a neck of this quality can be purchased for $...

Beautiful neck

By Shawn R. from Valencia, CA
Music Background: Rock and roll.

These roasted maple necks look great and play smooth. I took the guitar to one of the best techs in Hollywood for its first setup and the only work the neck needed was nut shaping and slotting. The frets are in great shape out of the box. I talked to another less experienced tech who was biased against MIM necks who said it would need a bunch of leveling and recrowning. Long story short, he's a putz. This neck plays like butter.

What A Beautiful Neck!

By PhattBlack

Performance sound-wise, this is your standard MIM maple neck. There's
nothing new to report. In regards to the perceived sonic benefits of
a roasted maple, I just replaced a 15 year old strat neck with a
brand new neck. I cannot tell you if the sonic benefits are due the
roasting process or just because its new neck.

One thing I can say is it looks absolutely stunning on my guitar!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

My tech found a dead spot/fret and he ended up leveling the entire neck.
I didn't return the neck because my tech is a Fender certified and
I have more confidence in him than the warehouse shelf. Fender is
great but not perfect. Make sure you thoroughly inspect the your neck!

Great neck!

By Scott B. from Tennessee
Music Background: Hobbyist with almost 50 years playing guitar

I found this neck to be absolutely perfect right out of the box. Excellent finish. Frets were nicely crowned and polished. Fret ends were nicely dressed. Perfect fit to the neck pocket. I was very surprised about the level of craftsmanship considering other reviews. Perhaps mine is an exception but i couldn't have asked for better.

Nice but needed fretwork

By Jason from Atlanta, Georgia
Music Background: Hobbyist

I agree with Morgan. The neck looks and feels good but the frets weren"t very level. However I don"t think that"s uncommon with any of the MIM necks. After paying for a level, crown, and polish I"ve got a nice playing neck on my strat. For the money, you may get a nicer neck from Warmoth but it won"t have that Fender logo on it.

Fantastic neck, but needed serious fretwork

By Brendan M. from NC
Music Background: Guitarist, Audio Engineer, Producer

Yes, 4 stars! But first, the bad news.

This neck came out of the box with flat fret tops, meaning that the Mexico factory did a rough fret leveling before they sent it out. This is a bad thing because:

1) the fret leveling was poorly done; the 9th fret was absurdly low, meaning the leveling was probably done with a slightly back-bowed neck, and...

2) you are starting with less fret material to work with for a proper leveling and crowning. One thing I was looking forward to with narrow-tall frets is that you can level/crown them two or three times before you need a refret. Well, they leveled them once at the factory (badly), and therefore they needed to be leveled again (to the level of that crazy low 9th fret) and now they are so low that I won't be able to level them again. So the lifespan of the new frets on my new neck was essentially cut in half right out of the box. Better just to leave the frets alone, because they are going to need to be leveled either way, right? Hopefully Sweetwater will talk to Fender about this.

So, now the good news: the neck sounds and plays fantastic. I put this on a 2008 Highway One, replacing the original slim-C maple/rosewood neck. I tap tested both necks side by side and this neck rang out a full third higher (from an F to an A), and the new neck had noticeably more sustain to its ring. Once on the guitar, (and the frets properly leveled and crowned) this neck has noticeably more sustain, clear piano-like lows and beautiful, open-sounding mid frequencies. I would definitely say this was an improvement to the sound of the guitar, enough to give it 4 stars despite how bummed I am about losing all that fret right out of the gate.
