The Martin 000-X2E offers the classic design, tone, and playability that has made the 000X series a favorite among guitarists of various styles. The 000-X2E features a Sitka spruce top with HPL back and sides for a bold tone expressed through all three ranges — crisp highs, balanced mids, and rich lows. Perfect guitar for me
I love this guitar a lot. Perfect in size, easy to play, and the tone is GREAT!!
Just what I wanted...
I've been looking for for a good, basic, comfortable to play guitar with good electronics in it for gigging. The 000-x2e ticked all those boxes for me. I'd played the previous model (000-xae1) before and liked it, but when it came time to buy I saw this updated model available. I like the upgrades Martin has made choosing hardwood bridge and fretboard over Richlite. The guitar looks great in its simplicity and the tone, both acoustic and plugged in, is fantastic. I experimented with with different strings and found it really responds well to Ernie Ball Earthwood 80/20 medium lights. Thank you to Mike Winebrenner for a great deal and the quick shipping!
Everything I was looking for
The 000-X2E is a fantastic instrument, especially at its price point. Here are a few of my thoughts.
I'd describe the tone of the guitar as bright and punchy, making it perfect for fingerstyle. While picking away, each string cuts through with clarity and without any muddiness. Since I purchased this with the intention of mostly playing fingerstyle, I'm very happy with this aspect of it.
The guitar has a wide dynamic range, sounding great while gently picked or aggressively strummed. Strumming out chords doesn't have the same warmth / presence of a dreadnought but moreso a mid-focused quality which sounds nice in its own way.
The intonation is perfect all the way up the fretboard, and the action seems pretty good out of the box. The HPL sides and back look fine and don't give off a cheap vibe in my opinion.
On the pickup, I like the built-in tone adjustment, which the manual refers to as controlling a "variable scooped tone" that emphasizes the bass and treble while reducing the midrange. I found a setting that definitely is an improvement over the default flat response.
And, most importantly, this guitar is just super fun to play! I'd definitely recommend it to others.
Martin 000-x2e
This is a really good guitar. My 3rd Martin. Its not my favorite but its a keeper for sure and serves its purpose. I wanted a mix of solid woods for tone and hpl for outdoor playing purposes and the x series is perfect for that, you'll get a spruce top (satin) and mahogany pattern hpl back and sides. Looking to upgrade the nut, saddle and pins soon but I'm very pleased with this one after a couple of months now. Not sure what wood the board and bridge are. It took a week or so to get used to the fretboard unlike my ebony D-16 but it feels good now that it's broken in some. Tuners are rock solid and the tone is right on. The gig bag is nice and padded but I always keep my acoustic guitars in a hardcase so I got a Gator and now we're good to go. Up next a 15 series 000 and eventually the holy grail 28 (D or 000 not sure yet) before I die. I've fallen in love with yet another Martin guitar today...who would've thought.
Great Little (000) Guitar
This is the bottom of the line Martin, BUT if you're looking for a smaller guitar with a good middle for recording and for picking this might be the one for you. Also chords very nicely. It's not a Dreadnaught so it doesn't have that big, full strum, but that's not what I wanted. Has the HPL back and sides which makes it tough; solid spruce top. It came in the box in tune, and hasn't gone out of tune one week later. How about that? ...its a good little guitar.
