Not your father's Martin nylon strung guitar.
Model 00016 appointments are exquisitely done in normal US Martin attention to detail and materials.
The spruce top on mine has good cross-silk (nicely vertical grain). No shortcuts in build quality or execution.
So far its acoustic volume is not world class classical concert ready, but it possesses a sweet and well balanced tonality.
It is great for "crossover" or "hybrid" applications.
Plugged in is what it is meant for, but it is enough -acoustically- for quiet playing. It sounds nice.
I replaced to stock high tension Martin strings, with normal tension ball end Martin strings, which sound sweeter to me.
My main use is for sweet call and response fills, with a church choir.
It is handy around the house as a ready acoustic for couch noodling.

Better than I ever expected!
I am pleasantly surprised at how great this guitar sounds. It gives me this jazzy high-end response that will make my typical repertoire sound amazing. I also enjoy the extra space at the saddle just in case my fingers decide to wander slightly. Honestly, I was slightly apprehensive about purchasing this guitar because of the richlite fingerboard but after playing it for a while, all of those reservations are gone. I am 100% happy and satisfied.
Sweetwater also did amazing job of making sure it got to me safely and got shipped immediately following my order. I got it in 1 day! I will be a Sweetwater customer for life. There is no need to shop anywhere else. Unless I am supporting a local store in my area, or course.
Note: I spent the first hour jamming to some bossa nova tunes and the sound I got was so mellow yet lively. I think you will be very happy with this purchase.
What I was Looking For
First of all the Martin has the sound that I was looking for. It has the playability, feel and great looks as well. This guitar might not work well for everyone but for me it was exactly what I was looking for in a nylon string guitar.

This guitar was designed for playing with pick. If you are not familiar with nylon string and playing with pick it might not work for you. When I bought it I was very skeptical but after awhile it became my main instrument. I've been playing classical guitar since childhood and own many of them. Don't listen to guys who are saying that it doesn't sound good. It is an amazing guitar! And Martin did an absolutely great job designing it! Thank you and good luck.
Very nice instrument!
I was looking for the nylon string sound without the wide flat fretboard and decided to try this one. I am very pleased! Along with the to-be-expected overall Martin quality, the sound is good, intonation perfect and it is very playable without additional set up. The onboard pickup also produces a very natural sound. Thanks Martin and Sweetwater!
Martin Tone Wins Again
I took a friend and we sat and played two Cordoba Fusions (rosewood and maple), A Taylor Ovankol Nylon and the Martin side by side for a couple hours. First of all the playability of the Martin neck is outstanding. It is a long scale unit at 26.5 inches vs 25.5 on the others. So I was immediately comfortable switching from steel string acoustics to this hybrid. The nut is slightly wide at 1 7/8" but that creates a favorable string spacing for finger picking and works well for me with fat fingers. The depth of the neck is really thin and comfortable. Although the Taylor and Cordobas were very nice guitars in the hybrid genre, they didn't compare at all to the Martin for action, tone, resonance, projection volume and reverberating overtones. The 000 Grand Auditorium body is just as rich and lush as you would expect any Martin to be. The electronics create a vast palette of tonal variation and are well hidden so as not to impact the body structure much at all. A strap pin is already included at the neck and a nice medium-hardshell case rounded out the package. Martin also strings up this guitar with their proprietary 'Magnifico' set which is perfect for this unit. I can honestly say this is the finest hybrid nylon I've ever heard. I was expecting to walk out with a much less expensive guitar, but I never would have been fully satisfied after playing this Martin. No disappointments at all.
This one is a keeper!
First impression, out of the box: Wow, very nice padded gig bag. Unzipped the bag: WOW! Beautiful instrument, fit and finish flawless! The tuners, the rosette, mahogany grain and color, the gloss top, all eye-catching. The slightly smaller body shape is very lightweight and comfortable to hold, the satin finish and shape of the neck and the radius of the fretboard make for fast fingering. The slightly wider neck at the nut is a happy compromise between a steel-stringed acoustic and a wider classical flat neck, not a difficult transition at all. The real surprise was the volume and sustain from this smaller guitar! Amazing! I had not expected that! I was already familiar with the Fishman Matrix preamp as my GPCPA4 has it. It does a great job of not coloring the natural sound of the instrument while giving the option to boost the bass or treble to your taste. It sounds great with a little reverb and delay too. Of course I had to tweak it, just personal preference stuff, so I lowered the saddle and changed the strings. With that done, I am a happy man! Only negative: waiting for the nylon strings to stretch and settle in. Retuning every couple of minutes is a pain, but I still can't put it down. So many new colors available in the tonal palette. It's a keeper.
Martin 000C12-16E Nylon Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Natural
The purchase from Sweetwater, as always, was very professional and easy transaction. The Martin 000C12-16E is certainly a quality made Martin guitar. It is a good finger picking guitar with a decent sound and comfortable to play. Overall, a good, quality guitar but not worth the Martin price of $.
Nylon
The Martin nylon string guitar has a rich mellow sound. I was looking for a guitar from a reputable maker that was not to expensive. This Martin is just right for the price. I would recommend it if you are looking for a nylon string guitar. David M. At Sweetwater was very helpfull with my order it arrived in a few days! I play it every day.
Martin 000C
I bought the guitar, action was too low for normal tension, I get buzzing zone on E, B, & G strings when strumming. With a little adjustments on rods, problem was fixed. I also experimented with high-tension nylon strings but it is harder to play. I'm going back to normal tension.
I am wondering whey there are Sapele and Mahogany back and sides on same models. Which one is better?
Martin Guitar
I am a little disappointed, the guitar is ok. The nylon strings feel like steel strings, don't feel like nylon at all. I am hoping the more I play it the easier and smoother the strings will feel, but something tells me that isn't going to happen, Oh well...
Not the best from Martin
I own a D-41. Love it. I am pretty disappointed with this guitar, however. The intonation is off..difficult to keep in tune. I've had the action adjusted, and it never quite gets right.
Not loving it.
Alot of trouble with this guitar
I've had so much trouble with this guitar. I've had it for less than 8 months. Even after I sent it back to Sweetwater to have the relief adjusted it buzzes when you play an open string at any intensity and from any angle of attack. Best advice I can give is to order a nylon string guitar from another company because Martin is known for their steel strings. My sales engineer offered that piece of advice before I purchased the guitar and I wish that I would have taken it.
