Finally, I found my guitar

By Tim B. from Ohio
Music Background: gigging musician

I own an early 2000 0015. Back then there was no "M" in the description. I fell in love immediately. Unfortunately, over the years of performing 200+ shows/ year it finally needed to be put out to pasture. Two years ago I purchased a 00015M. First I was disappointed in arrived in a gig bag. Then the playability: no where near the buttery feeling of my old 00015. Even after a set up it just didn't feel right. So, I got rid of it. I've been playing my GPCA4, which sounds and plays amazing, but is heavier and during a 3 hr gig my neck begins to ache. So I went in search of a lighter guitar. That's when I came across this 0015 StreetMaster Distressed burst. I've never been a fan of the "looks" of the StreetMaster but I felt the Distressed Burst was a little more to my liking. It checked in at 3.6lbs. So I gave it a shot. Once I let it acclimate I unboxed it. WOW! it reminded so much of my old 00015. Buttery playability and gorgeous tone. I couldn't put it down. I installed a Fishman Matrix Infinity and gigged with it twice this week. No neck pain. My hands were thanking me for having such an easy playing instrument. Thank you Martin for making a good one. Thank you Sweetwater for the timely shipping. You will not regret purchasing this guitar. The distressed burst is hard to find. I may end up buying the last one in Sweetwater's inventory.

Man I LOVE this guitar!

By Adam P. from Portland, TN
Music Background: Touring musician, songwriter.

I have a Martin D28 that is my #1 gigging guitar. I've been playing it non-stop the last few years. I wanted a different sounding guitar for recording and songwriting purposes... I stumbled upon this 00015 Mahogany model guitar in a music store one day. I was BLOWN AWAY! I'm not really a guitar snob, as I've mostly played Blueridge workhorse guitars for the last 10-12 years. I finally saved up and bought the coveted D-28 since I was playing so many gigs and I wanted to step up my guitar game. But this new Martin 000-15M StreetMaster has rounded out my small collection (3 guitars) very nicely! I am going to a session next week and I'm leaving my D-28 at the house, bringing my new Mahogany StreetMaster instead!

And a HUGE shoutout to my rep Joseph Donner for the personal touch, the incredible wealth of knowledge, the professionalism, and the courtesy he has shown me over the last few years. As we've gotten busier with music travel and pursuits, Joe has helped me find the exact thing I need for every scenario I've called him about the last few years. I actually can't wait to catch up when I talk to him every few months!

Joe has gone above and beyond multiple times and I am so excited I took his advice and bought this guitar through Sweetwater! I could've gone back and bought that guitar at the store I was in, but I wanted to talk to my Sweetwater rep first and see what he thought about them. Joe knew all about that model and educated me on the difference between the 000-15 streetmaster and other Martins. He automatically could describe the sound and WHY he thought I liked it.... I know what I like with guitars, but I'm not always sure why. haha.

Of course with the 48 months, no interest, I just could not resist the opportunity to buy this guitar. I am so glad I did! If you're a songwriter or a gigging musician, GET THIS GUITAR if you can swing it. Call Joseph Donner!

Much More than I expected

By Matt from Atlanta
Music Background: Old jazz player and sometime finger picker and blues player

First let me say Sweetwater went out of their way to try to fix FedEx screw ups. FedEx has become totally unreliable. I order overnight but get delivery four days later.

Now let's move on to the guitar. I wanted a "made in America" guitar I could mainly practice with or simply pull out and just play. I have a beautiful Breedlove electric/acoustic which the wife and I love to play any time. It's big and heavy but beautiful sound and tone we both love.
So this guitar is mainly a practice guitar for the most part. The Martin really fit all my requirements and was made in Pennsylvania and was "pre-plecked" and solid mahogany top and sides. I love the deep warm sound of mahogany. I would have wanted a light gig bag but frankly the gig bag that came with this guitar is as close to a solid case as anything I have ever seen. Thick protection and outstanding zippers and storage. Now on to the Martin: thankfully it came without so much "distressed" look as I feel that is just a bit overdone. This guitar had light distressed look but nothing all over like picture on Sweetwater. It is super light, I mean lighter than any guitar I can remember playing. Frankly this would be a perfect guitar for beginner, although the price is steep for a beginner. This is truly a performer's guitar. It has so much volume and warm depth. It is much louder than my Breedlove just strumming but then again the Breedlove is acoustic electric so volume is not as important. This is a guitar you could just pick up and play anywhere. The action was nice and low the fretboard is perfect, so smooth and slick, my hand just flew over the fretboard. I also noticed it was very easy to make barre chords just like my Breedlove. This guitar is really worth every penny of investment. I had a great Taylor that I passed on to my son but frankly this guitar is really more playable and a bit more warmer and louder than the
Taylor. Guitars are a personal thing but this guitar would please anyone in my opinion.

Couldn't put it down.

By Sweetwater Customer from Wisconsin
Music Background: Guitar enthusiast. Playing acoustics for about 26 years

I had a chance to play with one of these at a local guitar shop. I played it for about an hour and a half and and I couldn't put it down. I felt there was really something special about it. I've played quite a few high end Martins and this played a bit like one of those. It didn't sound anything at all like a spruce top guitar, but it sounded great.

I was skeptical about the mahogany construction, but it really does have a sweet balanced tone. It has a slightly muted, mellow sound while still being bright and punchy. Somewhat similar to a cedar top guitar, but not exactly.

The guitar I demoed was one of the most comfortable acoustic guitars I've ever played and it was set up to absolute perfection. I played it up and down the entire neck effortlessly. I really felt like I was holding on to something special.

Bought it for blues!

By D from Texas
Music Background: Rock / Country/ Blues

This guitar is definitely special. The tone is amazing. I've had it for a little over a month now and play it everyday. I have a Gibson Hummingbird and it has taken me a little while to get used to the 1 11/16 nut. However, the playability of this guitar is great. It doesn't have the volume of a dread, but that's not why you buy this guitar. Although it's plenty loud to sing along with. In my opinion it's the perfect guitar for any setting except for maybe a live bluegrass jam. This is that guitar you can sit down on the couch and play for 3 or 4 hours and never grow tired of it and not get uncomfortable. Pull the trigger if you're contemplating it. You'll be glad you did.

Play it in

By Ryan from Ketchikan, AK
Music Background: Player

This is my 3rd 000 Martin, I purchased this model from Sweetwater last September. The neck profile and slim body are great for people with smaller hands. Upper registers sound almost electric and the low end is full and rich. One thing to note about these guitars is I have never found them to sound quite right out of the box. Even with a set of elixer lights and a setup, it lacked mid range and definition on the low end. That was 9 months ago, and after putting in a few hundred hours on this guitar, it now sounds fantastic. It really opened up and matured over the winter. I keep playing it every day and it keeps sounding better. If you have one of these or are considering getting one, enjoy, but be ready for a longer than average break in period. The tobacco burst one I had previously took over a year to really open up, but when it did oh baby what a great sounding, playable guitar.

000-15M StreetMaster

By Andrea from Madison, Alabama
Music Background: Hobby player

This is a amazing guitar. I was intrigued by it appearance and the pre-distressed finish... I looks like grandpa's old worn, much loved guitar. I own several really nice Martins and I'm a little paranoid about dings and dents when playing out. So I thought no worries with this one!
Then I played it and fell in love! Love the warm Mahogany sound, it very loud to be a 000 size body, the neck is very comfortable to play. This one is a keeper!!

Amazing

By Dan

I own three high dollar (for me) Martins. An M-36, a 000-28 and a CEO-7, all extremely fine guitars. But I wanted a guitar that wasn't so pristine and shiny so I could play anywhere without being as paranoid about dings and scratches. I thought this guitar would fit the bill. A solid mahogany Martin that was already pre-distressed. I knew it would sound okay but I didn't know it would sound this good. I don't know if anybody else has "go to" chord they play when they first pick up a guitar but mine are a barre Am7 or a Cmaj7. Both are so sweet sounding. But I digress. From the first chord I knew this was a keeper. And I find myself drawn to this guitar over my others because it's, (a)fun to play and (b)sounds amazing. I've heard people at Sweetwater say,"it really is a good sounding guitar for the price". I say it's a great sounding guitar for any price. So good that I now worry about dings and scratches and I replaced the padded gig bag with a Martin hard shell case.

Sweet Streetmaster!

By Jan from TN
Music Background: Piano, banjo, new to guitar for the last 4 years and just play for my own enjoyment.

Each time I pick up this Streetmaster it sounds richer and mellower than the first time I held it. It came perfectly set up right out of the well packaged box (after the required 24 hour wait for acclimation). The mahogany is beautiful and I feel like I play better, although not sure it is my playing or just the playability of this instrument. I would bet the latter! Needless to say, I love this guitar. Thanks to Mike Brandt for his continued great advice on each purchase with Sweetwater. They are my go to retailer for anything instrument related as they always provide great customer service.

Beautiful, quiet, compressed sound

By Sweetwater Customer

I recently bought (and now returning) this beautiful 000-15 streetmaster guitar. First, this guitar looks fantastic. Martin did a great job with the worn, woody look. Just love it. Second, it has a lovely Martin sound and stays in tune as expected. Third, it shines at finger picking style. With the mahogany tone wood, you get a compressed sound which results in every note sounding out with approximately the same volume even when not picking consistently. So the dynamics is more controlled where in a spruce top, you might have to be a better player to really play consistently as notes can be relatively soft and loud depending on how you play. This guitar minimizes that effect...where the volume is more consistent regardless of plucking - that may be a good or bad thing depending on you. I like it. It’s more forgiving when finger picking pretty lines.

Now why am I returning? After playing it for a couple weeks, (and comparing with my own collection of guitars), I’m noticing that I really want more volume and bass and richness that I can hear. When I record bits on my phone for sharing with friends, I can barely hear myself where with other acoustics, it’s not really an issue. For studio recording this would not matter as you can control gain and signal. But for playing around the fire or the living room, it’s not ideal especially for strumming. Finger picking in a quiet room is quite blissful. But I’m currently looking for a good strummer with more dynamics, volume, and bass.

Secondly, I already have a Taylor with 1 11/16 like this one. I’m really looking for a 1 3/4 nut now as I love finger picking and with my bigger hands, I want a bigger nut for for better accuracy and comfort.

Lastly, when comparing to a small body (spruce top) Taylor Academy 12E, which has similar dimensions, the Martin is ever so slightly (just barely) a little more difficult to play chords cleanly and changing shapes with complete ease. It’s not so much the setup (possibly) as the setup is really good. For example, I have to apply slightly more pressure for barre chords close to the nut to get a clean strum and further up the neck. Notes and chords in the middle of the fretboard are similar to the Taylor.

But all guitars are different and have a different feel so I’m giving this 5 stars as it is a 5 star guitar in my mind. My preference now is for a louder acoustic, wider nut, with a high tolerance for playability. I’m eyeing a D18.

Hope this review helps. And what a beautiful looking guitar this is.

The One I Call MY Guitar

By Wendell H. from Rineyville, KY

About the Guitar: I'm not going to bore you with the specs, you're reading this because you already know the specs and want to know about my experience with it. I've had mine for about 8 months now, and it's the one guitar I own that I can't help but pick up everyday. I also own a Seagull S-6 Original, a Taylor GS-Mini Mahogany, and a Martin D-28 (bought in 2017, but it's the model prior to the 2017 model). They were all purchased brand new, and I love them all, but my 000 Streetmaster constantly calls me to play it. I have it stringed up with Martin Retro light guage right now, but I'm curious what it would sound like with medium guage. That may be the next leg of my journey.

About the Purchase: After a couple of email exchanges about the 000 with my trusted sales agent Aaron Smith, I decided to give it a try. He recommended a professional setup back when I bought my D-28, and I declined, but a bit wiser now, I decided to get it with this one. Wow, I can't wait to take a trip to meet Aaron in person, visit the Sweetwater campus, and get my D-28 setup like I should have in the first place. Always great service, Thank You Aaron! I'm enjoying a great Guitar Journey with you and Sweetwater, and look forward to the times ahead.

My #1 go to guitar

By Shawn M. from Bremerton, WA

I"ve had this guitar for 6 months and now just writing a review. This guitar is definitely my number one go to guitar. I play many others but always come back to this 000-15m. It plays so smooth, and sounds so good. Only thing I"ve done is lower the action and restring with D"Addario coated custom light phosphor bronze. Super high quality guitar, you know the difference when you play it. It"s that good.

Amazing guitar

By Dave from Everywhere
Music Background: Fulltime musician

This is a fantastic looking and sounding guitar. The look is very cool - not overdone and more interesting than the plain mahogany version (which is beautiful in its own right, but I was looking for something a little more, well, interesting). The tone is fantastic - clear and warm, but not muddy in any way.

I paid a little extra for a full setup from Sweetwater on my strings of choice and I'm glad I did - the action, frets, etc are perfect for me.

My sales rep, Patrick Schaefer, was super helpful and attentive and I am very grateful for all the work he put in to ensure I had a great Sweetwater experience.

Excellent guitar

By Curt from Columbia City, IN

The first thing that strikes you when opening the case is the beauty of the guitar and how well Martin did the slightly worn look. Mahogany is a beautiful tone wood. When you pick it up it is very light yet firm and solid. Reviewing the external and internal workmanship at joints & glue lines it is clearly a US Nazareth PA guitar. The woodworkers and luthiers at Martin should be proud, truely a exquisite instrument. It was setup and in tune out of case. The action is unbelivable and very non typical for an acoustic. With no fret buzz playing up the fretboard. But the best part is the beautiful mellow sound of this mahogany guitar. I don't want to not mention the tuners, these are non typical as well , very well made, tight with close fits between gears, it tunes with ease annd stays in tune. I wanted to play for a few months before offering feedback.
My first guitar was a mahogany Harmony and i always wanted to replace it with another yet way better version. No disappointments with this customer!! Get it! Great price point great instrument you will love it as i do!

Love it!

By Bruce from Seattle

I bought my StreetMaster last year and just love it. What it all comes down to is the sound right? This has the Martin sound and adds it"s own unique flavor. It is a guitar I admire every time I see it or pick it up.

so great

By Sweetwater Customer

I think the only way to discribe the sound of this majestic beast is by saying it sounds like what i imagine the orgasm of a mythical creature to be. Maybe a the roar of a thunderous back spiked dragon or the vocals of blazing phoenex.
