Joel Grumblatt
Joel Grumblatt
My musical journey began at 6 years old, when my oldest brother borrowed an oyster-shell blue Slingerland drum set from a church friend and set it up in our basement. He was just learning to play at the time, and one day he told me to sit down behind the kit and taught me a basic 4/4 drum beat. To his amazement, I immediately “got it” - and I’ve been obsessed with drums ever since!
At 25, I decided to take music more seriously and moved from Lansing, Michigan to Nashville, Tennessee. My first band there recorded an album that was engineered and produced by an up-and-coming Derek Garten, who went on to work with the likes of Taylor Swift, Jewel and Lady A. In more recent years, I was the live drummer for the progressive rock band, Evership, which afforded me the privilege to play in front of larger crowds and share the stage with other prog-rock icons, such as Neal Morse Band, IQ and Eddie Jobson.
Throughout pursuing my musical dreams in Nashville, I also ran an online guitar store for over a decade, which ignited my passion for music gear and finding the right solutions for my fellow musicians. Now that I’m at Sweetwater, I have the opportunity to elevate that passion to new and greater heights - and I look forward to helping you navigate the world of music gear for your own musical journey!
As your personal contact here at Sweetwater, please let me know anytime I can offer help or advice.

While drums will always be my primary instrument, these days I’m more focused on songwriting and recording, with my main writing tools being piano, synth and guitar. Outside of music, I spend most of my weekends on my bike during the warmer months, as I’m convinced cycling is the best way to explore a city and discover all it has to offer.
