Isaiah Teran

I first started playing guitar in 6th grade classical guitar class. I ended up falling in love with the instrument and pursuing it all throughout middle school, then high school where I got very serious about it. By the second week of my freshmen year, I had a private teacher that I would see once a week along with my classical guitar classes in high school that accounted for 2 hours of my time everyday. Music gave me a way out to deal with emotions I had trouble verbally expressing at the time. I still find myself falling in love with the instrument everyday even when I play less and less. My high school guitar teacher saw how serious I was about music and recommended I audition for the Classical Guitar Performance program at Florida State University where he did his masters back in the 80's. Luckily enough, the same professor that accepted him ended up accepting me. Bruce Holzman was easily the biggest influence of my playing during my time at Florida State University and I am happy to have been not only a student, but a friend. Through his guidance, he took an overly confident 18 year old kid who wanted to play guitar and instilled more passion and humbling qualities, even though sometimes his words were not so encouraging.
