Improve your recordings in untreated spaces!
The Reflexion Filter from sE Electronics is the affordable, portable solution for improving the sound of the acoustic space around the microphone. By allowing the sound to pass through seven individual layers, the Reflexion Filter gently diffuses the acoustic waves surrounding the microphone, keeping the sound from bouncing back toward the microphone, which improves the detail and sonic character of your recordings. The best thing about the Reflexion Filter is that it easily mounts to any mic stand, so you can take your acoustic treatment with you any where you need to record. The Reflexion Filter costs a fraction of what it would cost to treat a room acoustically, and will dramatically improve the sound quality of your recordings.

sE Electronics Reflexion Filter At-a-Glance:
  • Portable and affordable
  • Easy to use
  • Improves the quality of your recordings
  • How does it work?

Portable and affordable
The Reflexion Filter allows you to record vocals, guitars, or any other sound source with a 'drier' sound without having to have an acoustically treated room. It's portable, and uses state of the art materials. It works... and it's a fraction of the price of acoustically treating your studio environment! Since it will mount to any mic stand and isn't anchored to your walls like traditional acoustic treatment, you can take it anywhere you need to work.

Easy to use
Simply position the Reflexion Filter behind the microphone and you are good to go.The stand assembly comprises a mic stand clamp fitting, which attaches by means of a vertical joint to the horizontal bar assembly onto which both the Reflexion Filter, and any standard fitting shock mount can be fixed. The microphone (in its shock mount) can then be moved both vertically and horizontally along the bar, and the Reflexion Filter itself can be moved vertically to obtain the optimum working position.

Improves the quality of your recordings
The Reflexion Filter has 6 main layers. Firstly, a strong layer of punched Aluminum which allows sound waves to pass through it, diffused, to a layer of absorptive wool. The sound waves then hit a layer of Aluminum foil which helps dissipate energy and break up the lower frequency wave-forms, and from here they hit an air space kept open by rods passing through the various layers. The air gap acts as an acoustic barrier. The sound waves then pass to a further layer of wool and then through an outer, punched, Aluminum wall which further serve to absorb then diffuse the remaining acoustic energy. The end result is tighter, punchier recordings.

How does it work?
The various layers both absorb and diffuse the sound waves hitting them, so progressively less of the original source acoustic energy passes through each layer. This reduces the amount of energy hitting untreated walls and other surfaces so there is less of the original source reflected back as unwanted room ambience to the mic. The Reflexion Filter also helps prevent any reflected sound reaching the back and sides of the mic. Its shape and size have been carefully tested to maximize absorption while keeping 'coloration' down to only around 1dB, and leaving the microphone's polar pattern unaffected.

The Reflexion Filter works by reducing the amount of acoustic energy hitting un-treated walls and other surfaces so there is less of the original source reflected back as unwanted room ambience to the mic. Sound reflections are progressively reduced in strength after passing through seven layers:
  • 1. Punched Aluminum for diffusing sound waves
  • 2. Sound-absorptive wool
  • 3. Aluminum Foil breaking up lower frequency wave-forms
  • 4. An air gap acting as an acoustic barrier
  • 5. More sound-absorptive wool
  • 6. Another layer of punched aluminum
  • 7. Four formed panels of state-of-the-art specialist acoustic absorptive material separated from the main unit via a small air gap.

Customer Reviews
 Not a gimmick!
by Dan Wiest from Knoxville, TN USA, May 05, 2008
Music Background:  Student Engineer, Drummer

“I splurged on one of these before it was in the catalog and before anyone had much to say about it. I’ve been testing it out in a variety of applications. My favorite test was with vocals. I brought some gear to my brother’s apartment along with the filter, which I left in the car. I tried a take with a bare SM57 without the filter first as a reference; it was “boomyâ€? with lots of room...” Read More

Sweetwater Expert Advice

"What a cool idea! This is a must for anybody recording vocals or solo instruments at home. Now you can turn your living room into a professional vocal booth for a session, then back into a living room before your buddies come over to watch the game."
