Kill Switch

On a DJ/turntable mixer, kill switches are buttons which eliminate, or “kills” certain frequencies. One purpose of the kill switch is to remove elements of a song from the playback of the record for remixing. For example, if a DJ wanted to mix the drums and bass tracks from one song with the vocals from another song, the kill switch for the highs would be pressed for the drum and bass record, and the low-frequency kill switch for the vocal record would be pressed. The summed output would then be the low frequencies from one record and the high frequencies from the other record.
