Q: Can the Ableton Push controller for Live 9 be bus powered, or does it have to have a power supply?
A: Either way will work. You can run the Push bus powered and it will function perfectly. The only difference running the Push with a power supply is that the lighted controls will be brighter — and there will be less drain if you are running a battery-powered computer, such as a laptop.
