828 & 896

B. Carron

What do you think of the converters on the 828 and the 896? Are they better on the 896 or is it just an option of having higher sample rates? Many people have suggested that I upgrade from the 828 to the 896 but they could not tell me if their converters are really any different than on the 828. Do you have any advise? I am kind of limited to a firewire model because I am using a Mac G4 Powerbook.

Well, the 896 is a better sounding product. It doesn't just have LED's and mic-pres, it does have a little better converter. But rather than upgrade from the 828 to the 896, you should consider adding a Presonus Digimax LT. This will plug in to the ADAT lightpipe input on your 828 and not only give you 8 phantom power preamps, but 8 more analog inputs of audio as well! It's only $999 retail and is an incredilble box. If you do a search for Digimax on our webstore, you'll find it... the model you want to look at is the Digimax LT
