Your Brass Basics, Covered
The Vienna Symphonic Library Brass I Collection has your brass basics covered with essential solo instruments and their corresponding ensembles. It all starts with the musicians, and for Brass I, VSL recorded four first-call musicians in the impeccable acoustics of their Silent Stage. Three of them — Freddy Staudigl (trumpet), Marcus Schmidinger (Viennese horn), and Johann Schodl (trombone) — are members of the prestigious Brassissimo quintet, as well as in-demand orchestral players on the international circuit. Tuba player Christoph Kiene enjoys an international reputation as a lecturer. Whether this is your first foray into the brass VI world or you're a seasoned professional with years of experience, the Vienna Symphonic Library Brass I Collection will never let you down.

A palette of expressive articulations
VSL Symphonic Library Brass I provides an array of expressive articulations that bring your orchestrations to life, including fast legato and marcato Interval Performances; Performance Trills; major, minor, and diminished legato and staccato arpeggios; and mordents. A complete range of playing techniques are available for trumpet and trombone in both solo and ensemble settings. Specialties include the trumpet ensemble's "out-of-tune" sustains, just as they occur in real life. Trumpet rips and falls are also on tap. Trombone ensemble specialties include 3-note clusters with half-tone intervals in staccato (two variations), sustained, crescendo, and diminuendo (in two tone lengths), and sforzato; these are even available as Repetition Performances.
First-call musicians, first-class samples
At Sweetwater, we hold the Vienna Symphonic Library in high regard; that's because we're very particular about our orchestral samples. It all starts with the musicians. Since VSL's inception, first-call musicians have been providing the sound and character of these instruments as soloists and ensemble leaders. This approach is largely responsible for the impressive sonic authority and authenticity we have come to expect from VSL virtual instruments.
A superior way to orchestrate
The Vienna Instruments series expands on previous libraries and offers embedded intelligent Performance Algorithms in an easy-to-use plug-in that lets you orchestrate with an inconceivably vast array of samples. For the first time, hundreds of articulations can be combined in one preset and on a single MIDI track. Vienna's proprietary Performance Detection analyzes intervals, repeated notes, patterns, and even speed in real time and automatically summons the appropriate articulation or nuance.
