We've owned a couple of these for a few years now. They've been on the shelf after we got shotguns for crowd mics. But recently we hung them up as crowd mics in a 150-200 person prayer room for daily worship sets and they work great. And yes the off axis rejection is insane!

We just used this at a junior high school concert. The performance was at the high school auditorium, which seats about 640. The results were fantastic!

I experienced the choir concert in the prior year and offered to help them this time around. Even if the audience is well behaved, the choir just can't fill this auditorium on their own. They need reinforcement.

I hung three Audio Technica U853R mics over the choir. You'll see lots of peopel talk about putting mics 2'-3' ahead of and 2'-3' above the front row. That's about what I do. We used these for live sound, and recorded the tracks individually for the video, later.

These mics sounded wonderful in both uses. Parents stopped to thank us - even they could tell the difference - they said they could actually hear the choir!

I've added a stock photo of the auditorium. You'll see there is a shell over the stage - that is mounted on fly rails, so they are easy to take in and out. To mount the mics, we just dropped on of the shell tiers, and used gaff tape on the back side, letting the mic hang down. If you do that, the only trick is to measure the hanging height of the shell and your intended mic height so you know how much mic wire to drop down. Easy!

This mic is great and can be used on a stand or hanging. It has a nice warm sound. I have used several of these over the years and will probably go back to it when the need arises in the future.

We use these mics mainly for youth Christmas plays. It"s not like having individual mics for each person, but it is much cheaper than a dozen wireless lapel or over the ear mics. Our youngest children don"t project very well but these mics pick them up very well.
