From Our Research Team:

The Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster!

Very few musical artists are ever able to achieve a true signature style - a sometimes-undefinable sound which makes comparisons to other musicians impossible. But Texas guitarist Eric Johnson comes as close as any musician from the past quarter-century. Eric is also known for his perfectionism and dedicated search for an "ultimate" guitar. Now FENDER® has released the long-awaited Eric Johnson Signature Model Stratocaster® guitar. The brainchild of Johnson himself, this new model is designed with Eric's own personal features and preferences, and it is made possible because of his expressed desire to give something back to the collectors, players and, especially, the fans who have supported him throughout his career.

Fender Eric Johnson Signature Model Stratocaster at a Glance:
  • Made with the finest woods available
  • Custom pickups wound to Eric's specifications
  • Vintage Tremolo and '57-style features

Made with the finest woods available
The Eric Johnson Signature Model Fender Stratocaster guitar is built from some of the finest materials available. The light 2-piece alder body is dressed in a very thin nitro cellulose lacquer finish, and the 1-piece quarter-sawn maple neck sports a 12 inch fingerboard radius, 21 highly polished frets, and a soft "V" neck profile.

Custom pickups wound to Eric's specifications
Additional features on the Eric Johnson Strat® include staggered vintage style machine heads, thus eliminating the need for a string tree, custom pickups with countersink screws and wound to Eric's specifications, and highly contoured body and neck.

Vintage Tremolo and '57-style features
The Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster comes with a parchment '57 style pickguard, 5-way pickup switch, master volume, neck tone and bridge tone controls, and a Vintage Tremolo with 4 tremolo springs, silver painted block and '57 style string recess with no paint between base plate and the block.

Fender Guitars
You could easily make the case that Fender electric guitars were responsible - at least in great part - for the birth of modern rock 'n' roll. Originally designed to be easier to build, and thus more affordable, Leo Fender's masterpieces, which include classics like the Stratocaster (is there a more distinctive guitar shape in the world?), the Telecaster® and the original Precision Bass®, were at the core of a musical revolution that spawned everything from surf to country to punk!

In the 1960s, when Fender guitars first hit bandstands and stages all around the country, it was astonishing to see that trademark Fender maple neck and fingerboard. Though the company eventually offered rosewood fingerboards as standard or optional on its entire line of instruments, those first"blond" necks really shook things up. Others have picked up on the maple neck theme, but it's clearly yet another of Leo Fender's "firsts."

Today, no other manufacturer can match Fender for the sheer number of options available throughout its entire line. While vintage Fenders can command astronomic prices, the company now has the widest range of quality instruments in the world, along with the highest profile players like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, all of whom are legendary.

One Stunning Strat

by James Calabro from Forest Hills, NY

Music Background:
For over 20 years I've been a loyal Gibson player. My collection includes a few LP’s, SG’s, and a J-45. I've never owned a Fender guitar. Throughout the years I've had my hands on many Tele’s and Stra... read more [+]t’s but they never sat right with me.

Recently, while browsing through a local shop I came across the 2-tone sunburst EJ Strat. It looked absolutely fantastic, so I played it. Once I got my hands on it, I was dumbfounded. This guitar played and sounded like a dream. I could not believe it. The neck is unreal. Since receiving this guitar I have been playing it non-stop. It’s impossible to put down.

This was my first guitar purchase through Sweetwater – the reviews were great so I had to give them a shot. I could not have been happier – flawless guitar, fast and safe shipping, and amazing customer service.

I would recommend this to guitar and Sweetwater to anyone without hesitation. close [-]

For over 45 years I have played the guitar. I own a Gibson LP Custom, Gibson L4 CES (Custom Shop), Gibson RD 77 Artist, and now the Fender EJ. I purchased the White Blonde to contrast with my sunburst Gibsons and Ash White Custom LP and the blend is fabulous and the sound is flat awesome. Welcome to the family EJ.

This sounds like frying bacon smells.

This guitar sounds and plays exactly how I want it to. I do believe that 90% of your tone comes from your hands but this plank will get you that last 10%. My band was playing a festival and one of t... read more [+]he sound company guys was on stage setting the mics and after he asked me to play a bit he yelled out to the guy mixing the front of the house to see if the guitar was loud enough and the FOH guy yelled back "Yeah, and it f#*@ing sounds great!" Enough said. My only very slight complaint is that I play with my action fairly high and occasionally the high E string will pop out of the nut slot as there is no string tree to retain it. close [-]

Sweetwater Advice

Robert Williams
This guitar is great right out of the case, nothing to improve on. With most instruments I'll change pickups or tuners or add switches to get it more in the way I think it should be. Here there's none of that needed, just strap it on and play. The body contours and neck carve make the guitar comfortable to hold with very playable with easy access to the upper frets. Staggered tuners eliminate the need for string trees or the non-vintage tone locking systems. Better tonewoods result in a more resonant, acoustically lively instrument. The bridge tone control is great for smoothing out overdrive pedals and distorted amps. Great option regardless of whether you're an EJ fan.
