Fumes!!

I just bought this, and I haven't recorded with it yet, but I holding it up and singing into it I can already tell that it is going to do what it's meant to do. However, and this is a BIG however; the fumes coming off of this thing are toxic. I've only had this thing for a a couple of days, not even, but if the fumes do not dissipate, if the toxic smell stays, there is no way I'm going to want to be singing into this thing. I would have to use it for other things, like maybe when I mic up an amp, or perhaps when recording acoustic guitar and voice at the same time, on the mic that's on the acoustic, to help prevent some of the vocals from bleeding into the guitar mic.

By the way, I also bought some Auralex acoustic panels and have hung them up in my studio and it's the same problem with them, although not quite as bad. If you have a screened-in porch or some other place outdoors that would protect the panels and this reflection filter from the elements and from blowing awat, I would open the packaging there, outside, and let everything sit for 24-48 hours before bringing into your studio.

I am crossing my fingers that the toxic fumes will go away soon. If not, I will never buy anything from Auralex again.

Auralex MudFLAP

On paper it makes sense, but in the studio it doesn't do as well as other mic stand-mounted iso shields. There seems to be a low-mid frequency that it accentuates, and I have to really tweak the VO in post just to make it sound better. The connectivity to the mic stand also leaves a bit to be desired. The included hardware is shoddy and the threads don't fit properly onto the mic stand. If you enjoy modifying brand new equipment out of the box in order to make it function properly, then this product is for you. If you like ease of use right out of the gate, you may want to look at other isolation shields.

Not for me

After trying this out it added a lower-mid boxy tonality to the sound. It's subtle and others may not mind or notice. It did add some improvement in isolation. Most of these treatments have some similar effect.
