Distinctive Gretsch 12-string Tone

Incredibly affordable yet laden with professional features, the G5422G-12 Electromatic 12-string hollowbody guitar boasts FT-5E Filter’Tron humbucking pickups, an Adjusto-matic bridge on a pinned laurel base, and gold-plated die-cast tuners. This is your chance to channel the classic 12-string tones of the '60s with the great feel of a Gretsch hollowbody. You'll have no problem conjuring the jangly tone you're after with Gretsch's ultra-stylish G5422G-12 Electromatic 12-string hollowbody electric guitar.

Classic FT-5E Filter’Tron humbucking pickups

First designed in 1957, Gretsch Filter'Tron pickups have adorned some of the company's finest guitars ever since — classic Gretsch tone just can't be beat! The G5422G-12 Electromatic 12-string hollowbody features FT-5E Filter'Tron pickups. These stellar humbuckers capture incredible output and sustain devoid of hum and crackle, a big reason why they are quickly becoming favorites among Sweetwater guitarists.

Redesigned trestle-block bracing

Traditionally, trestle-braced guitars feature two U-shaped braces that run parallel from the neck joint to the bridge, simultaneously bracing the top and the back. This pattern enhances sustain and resonance but falls victim to feedback. Now, Gretsch unveils a new trestle block bracing design that enhances the performance of the fan-favorite trestle bracing pattern. Trestle-block bracing facilitates more contact between the top and back while adding extra stiffness to the traditional design. Trestle-block bracing flaunts a quick, snappy attack, more sustain, and greater resonance — all without the dreaded hollowbody feedback.

Exceptional sonic flexibility

It's easy to stereotype the Gretsch G5422G-12 Electromatic 12-string hollowbody until you play it, and then you realize how tonally versatile it is. Volume controls for each pickup let you create a perfect balance between warmth, bite, and brilliance when both pickups are engaged. The master tone control lets you fine-tune your sound once you've got the pickups dialed in. And of course, you'll get the sweet tone from the neck and bridge pickups individually.

The classic jangle of a 12-string electric guitar

The Gretsch G5422G-12 Electromatic 12-string hollowbody electric guitar captures the classic jangly 12-string sound of the 1960s. Brought into popularity by guitarists like Roger McGuinn of the Byrds and Mike Nesmith of the Monkees, the double-cutaway 12-string electric has been a staple tone in guitarists' arsenal ever since the flower-power generation first adopted it. Gretsch guitars such as the G5422G-12 have been sought-after for their chimey and jangly tones that only they can provide.

Gretsch G5422G-12 Electromatic 12-string Hollowbody Guitar Features:

  • Double-cutaway, hollowbody 12-string electric guitar
  • Laminated maple top, back, and sides add snap and definition to your sound
  • FT-5E Filter'Tron humbucking pickups deliver exceptional punch and twang
  • Trestle-block bracing pattern enhances sustain and cuts feedback
  • 12-string design delivers chorus-type tones and droning techniques
  • Binding on fingerboard and soundholes adds class and distinction

Nice Guitar

I've always wanted an electric 12 string and this guitar fits the bill nicely. It's light, the action is great, and it sounds fantastic. I've always been iffy about Gretsch guitars, but they knocked it out of the park with this one and I'm already plotting my next purchase.

Beautiful 12 string!

What magical sounds you will make with the Gretsch G5422G-12 Electromatic Classic Hollowbody Double-Cut 12-string - Single Barrel Burst. Fit and finish are awesome. The guitar plays easily and is striking to look at. As always, Gretsch guitars are something special!

Long Time Dream Finally Comes True

I've always loved the sound of 12 strings guitars, both acoustic and electric. Once I spotted Mike Nesmith playing his Gretsch 12 string electric back in 1966 I fell in love with that guitar. I had a custom built Carvin 12 string electric for a number of years, but could never get the "sound" of those 60s guitars, so I sold it figuring I'd never have an electric 12 string. Then Gretsch started making the G5422G and my interest was piqued. After months of research and hemming and hawing, I finally pulled the trigger last week and bought one. All I can say is man, I'm glad I did! This guitar is not only beautifully made, but plays and sounds awesome! I can't wait to use it at our next gig for songs we do that need a 12 string. I've been using a Mosaic pedal for the past 7 years and while it's a great sounding pedal, there's nothing like the real thing!
Thanks to my sales engineer, Tim Holsinger, for once again getting me a great deal! If you've been thinking about getting one of these babies, don't hesitate to do so...you won't be sorry!

Great guitar for the price

Just got a my Gretsch 12 string. Pleasantly surprised by the build quality and overall great looks of it. I've been playing Rickenbacker for years, they are a challenge narrow neck .Gretsch is very comfortable. I lowered the bridge plays great. I recommend getting a Byrds compressor foot petal , it has a nice jangle with it . Sweetwater awesome as always with pice, shipping, and I had one on order they emailed right away. Great low cost way to play 12 strings.

I Wanna Marry This Guitar

Never owned a 12 string before as I thought they were too much of a pain to play. But I needed some rich jangle for a few tracks, so I actually contacted the Sweetwater sales engineer for the first time and man, did he know his stuff! By asking what guitars I liked, etc., he figured out that this Gretsch G5422G-12 (Come on, Gretsch, can't you come up with a better name?!?) would be the neck I'd like most. I was quite impressed with how helpful he was, and how he never tried to sell me anything. (I guess Sweetwater doesn't hire used car salesmen!)

It arrived in a few days. Completely in tune, perfect intonation. I played it and it's a marriage made in heaven. So effortless to play! It feels like a 6 string. And man, does it sound good -- so rich, jangley when you want that, and very crisp. Never had a Gretsch before, either, and I am very impressed with the quality. Plays better then the $ Gibsons I've tried.

BTW, I am a player, not a collector. I have 3 guitars for different sounds -- a Yamaha Tele, a Vox Bobcat for P90 bite, and now this one for rhythm. I do not collect guitars to put on the wall and look at! But I gotta say that this one sure is purty! The pictures do not do it justice. It's rather shinier and more dazzling than the pictures show. The brownish color is quite vibrant in real life.

Anyway, I have to go file for a marriage license!
