Shubb

What resulted from a happy accident has evolved into a global brand with a dedicated following. Since 1974, Shubb Capos has focused on a singular goal: meeting the needs of any musician. And in their eyes, they have far exceeded expectations. At the heart of the Shubb capo lies a unique closing action and over-center locking mechanism that mimic how the human hand frets strings. Those design elements reward the player with a unique combination of power, speed, accuracy, and ease of use. Today, Shubb offers capos for steel- and nylon-string guitars, banjos, ukuleles, and much more.

Shubb’s flagship capo is the Standard Capo C1. It’s optimized for electric guitars and steel-string acoustics alike. The C1 features a durable nickel-plated brass body that lasts through years of use. And thanks to its over-center locking action and soft rubber contacts, the C1 won’t pull your guitar out of tune like spring-loaded designs do. The Shubb Standard Capo C1 comes complete with Shubb’s silky-smooth roller design and quick-release locking lever.

The Original Capo C1b is a return to Shubb’s first design. For players who prefer the old-school way, the Original Capo C1b is a no-brainer. It returns to the original specs with its cone-shaped screw cap and non-plated brass body. Players still benefit from the over-center locking action and finger-like rubber contacts that eliminate the need to retune your axe after applying the capo. Best of all, the brass darkens and develops a unique patina with age, allowing each Original Capo C1b to tell a story through its looks.

A favorite for aesthetically minded guitarists, the Capo Royale C1g brings an eye-grabbing touch of luxury to the Shubb line of capos. This exceptionally beautiful capo utilizes the same design elements as the Standard Capo C1 with the addition of a high-tech titanium finish. While it surely adds good looks, the titanium finish is so tough that you can toss it into your case or stuff it in a backpack without worrying about lasting damage. The Capo Royale C1g is available in both gold- and rose-gold-toned titanium finishes.

The Shubb Capo Royale Paua Pearl C1p is one of the most visually impactful capos on the planet. Like the other members of the Capo Royale series, the C1p comes with a striking titanium finish. This time around, the finish mimics the striking iridescence of paua — a species of abalone known for its incredible beauty. Shubb’s coloring process produces randomly occurring color patterns, making each capo a unique piece of art.

Shubb capos aren’t just for guitars! The company’s Capo Royale C5g is designed for banjo and fits most mandolins and bouzoukis. Its trademark over-center locking design and lever action achieve fast application and removal. And thanks to the adjustable tension, players don’t have to sacrifice accurate intonation to play in different keys. The C5g is made of brass and comes dressed up in brilliant gold- and rose-gold-toned titanium finishes.

When Shubb stormed into the capo marketplace, many players and critics claimed that the design could not possibly be improved. That was true — until Shubb debuted the Deluxe Capo S1 in 1998. First and foremost, the body is made of solid stainless steel for extreme durability. The most evident improvement is the roller-action design that replaced the original cone-shaped screw cap. The roller-action design improves the ergonomics and provides a silky-smooth feel.

Musicians frequently contact Shubb and request capos in myriad color combinations. But no request was nearly as common as the request for a black capo with a roller-action closure. Introducing the Shubb Capo Noir C1k. It features a brass body with an elegant black chrome finish that perfectly complements any instrument. There are also a number of design elements that were previously exclusive to the stainless steel Deluxe Capo models. Capo Noir comes with Shubb’s acclaimed roller-action closure and has rounded edges and a contoured lever for a softer touch and ease of use.
