Professional drummer and drum shop owner Herb Brochstein founded Promark in 1957. Even after D'Addario & Company bought the company from Herb's son Maury, Promark remains a family business. The company has grown significantly in the past decade, and even though they've expanded into a modern 90,000-square-foot facility, the company itself thrives on close-knit relationships, including the ones with their customers.
When it comes to innovation, Promark has always been among the greatest drumstick manufacturers in the world. One of their most successful innovations to date is the flame-tempering process behind their FireGrain series sticks. This process uses high temperatures to remove moisture and caramelize the surface of the sticks. The result is a stick that's stronger than normal, but with the balance, response, weight, and sonic characteristics you already prefer.
When your business relies on limited resources, such as quality hardwoods, then it behooves you to find sustainable ways to get them and keep getting them years down the road. That's one of the reasons Promark is heavily invested in environmental conservation. They start by only harvesting un-endangered woods, such as American hickory. They do this under carefully controlled conditions to ensure quality and accuracy, all while steadfastly replenishing the forests they harvest from. With Sweetwater's own dedication to environmental preservation, it's little wonder we're so fond of Promark.
