Lomax Classic: clarinet supremacy
At the tender age of nine, Michael Lomax embarked on his study of the clarinet in what was to become a lifelong passion. In his teens, he worked after school as an apprentice in the woodwind repair shop of a local music store. After earning a college degree in clarinet performance, Michael joined the clarinet section of the United States Navy Band. He later studied with Anthony Gigliotti, principal clarinetist in the Philadelphia Orchestra, while learning the finer points of clarinet repair from woodwind repair guru Hans Moennig. Following his Master's degree work, Michael played in several American orchestras. In 1987, he was named principal clarinetist for the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, a position he ultimately held for an impressive 27-year tenure. The company that bears his name is dedicated to the design and manufacture of high-quality clarinet mouthpieces and accessories that are widely respected by professional clarinetists and music educators alike.
