Fliphead

Axel Müller founded Fliphead in 2021. Axel is a well-known professional saxophonist and woodwind player who tours and records all over central Europe. He invented the Fliphead alternative flute headjoint to give saxophone players a simple solution for playing flute without having to dedicate years to developing a flute embouchure. His solution is a specially designed mouthpiece that is as easy to play as a recorder or an Irish low whistle. Two years of intense development efforts, prototyping, and performance testing yielded an accessible product fit for beginners and established players alike. The Fliphead headjoint gives beginners instant access to the flute while also providing established saxophone players and advanced flutists a range of new, exciting tones.

Designed in Germany

Every Fliphead product is designed and assembled in Germany according to the strictest quality-control measures. The mouthpieces and thumb rests are all laser-sintered one-piece nylon designs manufactured to the highest possible standards for consistency and quality. Meanwhile, the handmade curved necks are built from silver-plated nickel silver. All Fliphead mouthpieces are performance tested and inspected by Fliphead inventor and CEO Axel Müller in Mannheim, Germany.

Flute for Everyone

Fliphead alternative flute headjoints offer something for everyone. Younger players and beginners will benefit from the easy, recorder-like blowing technique. Established saxophone players will quickly and easily be able to produce a great flute sound without hours of dedicated flute practice. And finally, Fliphead headjoints give advanced flutists a totally new palette of sounds for jazz, pop, and all kinds of world music genres. Fliphead flutes are played in front of the body in a natural, relaxed position, which is a terrific solution for players with shoulder or neck difficulties. Finally, Fliphead’s innovative headjoint design solves the decades-old problem of playing the flute with braces.

Mouthpiece Options

Currently, Fliphead offers two mouthpiece designs. The AM-1, Fliphead’s first mouthpiece, has a large internal chamber that delivers a full, warm tone with minimal resistance. Saxophone players who regularly play with mouthpieces that have large facings will fall in love with how easy it is to play the AM-1. On the flip side, the AM-2 Flow mouthpiece’s narrower chamber produces a soft, dark sound with far less air support than you’d expect. Musicians will find it easier than ever to play long phrases and high-register passages. Beginners, young players, and established flutists alike excel on the AM-2 mouthpiece. What’s more, both Fliphead mouthpiece designs are interchangeable. Choose the AM-1 for soloing and ensemble situations. And when you need longer, softer notes, go with the AM-2.

Combo Case

Storing and traveling with your flute and Fliphead mouthpiece is easy if you use the Fliphead combo case. This one-of-a-kind design safely stores a standard transverse flute, the Fliphead headjoint, and the thumb rest. The combo case accommodates both C and B footjoints of almost every brand of flute. The Fliphead combo case is the ideal way to keep your flute and Fliphead headjoint safe from damage while traveling.
