An All-purpose Amp Delivering 350 Watts

Crown Audio outdid themselves with the XLS 1002, delivering not only a high-performing power amplifier but an affordable one at that. In addition to its sleek look, this amp has a large and vivid LCD screen to monitor your parameters with ease. Loudspeaker matching, multi-filter crossover tuning, and system EQ are just some of the DSP capabilities available to maximize your audio quality.

Comprehensive controls to dial in the perfect setup

From managing input sensitivity to toggling amp modes, full customization is only a few clicks away. Included on the front panel is a user-friendly LCD screen, LED level indicators, on/off switch, and dedicated menu buttons. At a glance, the XLS 1002’s rear panel includes an array of inputs to accommodate any audio source. Add additional amps through 1/4-inch line-level outputs, Neutron Speakon outputs and binding posts — all while being protected against overload with the help of a built-in circuit breaker. With a built-in PureBand crossover system, Crown’s XLS 1002 has onboard highpass, lowpass, and band-pass filters that can be set up to 3000Hz with a 24 dB/octave slope.

A versatile two-channel amp to power any event

The Crown XLS 1002 can power 2-, 4-, or 8-ohm loads and can be bridged for 4-ohm or 8-ohm mono operation. As a Class D amplifier, you can expect optimal efficiency when driving the most demanding loudspeakers or subwoofers. And when pushing the amp to the limits, the internal heatsink and forced-air fans will automatically cool down the XLS 1002 for consistent reliability and an extended lifespan. Its lightweight design makes this power amp a clear choice for touring musicians or live production companies needing portability.

Experience Crown’s patented DriveCore technology

At Sweetwater, our Sales Engineers are incredibly impressed by the amount of headroom that the Crown XLS 1002 packs under the hood. Their patented DriveCore technology provides an ultra-clean signal in even the most unpredictable live settings, so that you receive powerful, undistorted playback no matter the circumstances. Paired with transparent Peak-x Limiters, the XLS 1002 is a standout solution among Class D power amplifiers. The Best Amp For My Guitar Rig and Everything Else

Owners in my Line 6 Vetta user group began posting that the amazing Vetta HD amps I've used since 2012 have begun failing. Before mine failed I found the closest substitute available - the Line 6 X3 Pod and LIVE. Both formats have the same Dual Amp models, cabs, effects (pre & post) stereo outs, and ability to deep edit the patches on my laptop just like the Vetta can do. The X3s are the software of the Vetta but they aren't amplifiers like the Vetta, so I needed to run the X3s into a mixer, then to a power amp, then to my speaker cabinets using SpeakOn to 1/4 inch speaker cables. The Crown XLS 1002 gives my 16 ohm Celestions (Marshall, Jet City, and Ibanez cabinets) 115 watts each side which is more that enough for me. Speakers with 8 ohms will get double that wattage. The XLS 1002 is very quiet and sounds pure and clean. It's only 8 lbs, 2 rack spaces, and less that 8 inches deep allowing it to fit perfectly into my SKB 4 space shallow rack case between my BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer and Furman 8-Lx rack power conditioner. It's beautiful sounding, easy to carry, and simple to set up. If I need it to be a PA for a gig, no problem, I just change speaker cabinets and add any mics, keyboards, bass, etc into the mixer.

A very good amplifier; a fantastic value

First, kudos to Sweetwater for advice in choosing this unit and customer support.

The amplifier - I use it as part of a desktop music system, driven by a couple of Schitt DACs (and Schitt SYS volume control/source selector). The amplifier drives a pair of Mini-Magnepan speakers and Magnepan bass panel. The amplifier itself is quite flexible with multiple input/output options and selectable sensitivity. The Magepan speakers, while not large, benefit from a fairly powerful amplifier. No, the Crown is not "audiophile" gear; it's intended for the pro market. But, yes, it delivers plenty of clean power, preserving the imaging and depth for which Magnepan speakers are known. I use a predecessor Crown unit for the subwoofer on our main audio/home theater system (alongside a McIntosh amplifier for left and right channels). So, our Crown equipment is in good company. The engineering appears first rate; the unit has no hiss or fan noise, by the way. For a powerful amplifier at a reasonable price, look at the Crown XLS series.

XLS-1002 - Does what it's supposed to do!

Just what I was looking for! I use a Behringer xSeries mixer and this unit is both light AND powerful for most venues that I perform in.
Good match with the Mixer and great sound quality. Programmable features are a plus+. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A fine amplifier, flexible, too

I use a Crown XLS 1002 for my desktop system, which is quite different from the kind of use it gets generally. However, it drives a pair of relatively inefficient Mini-Magnepan speakers and Magnepan DWM bass panel. I use with two (good) DACs, a Schiit Hel and an SMSL Sanskrit 10th. I drive the unit with a small (Ampapa) tube-based preamp. This amplifier drives the Magnepan speakers with ease. Sound is clear, detailed, and relaxed, supporting the excellent imaging for which these speakers are known. For a desktop system, it provides impressive performance at a modest price indeed. I also use one of these amplifiers to drive a subwoofer on my main listening system, and it works well in that capacity. Its flexibility (see Sweetwater site) is also great, working well in both full-range and low-cut configurations, and as both a stereo and mono/bridge amplifier. I listen critically, and this amplifier works well.

Really, a bargain

I have two of these units (well, a 1002 and a predecessor model). I use the predecessor in bridged mode to drive a Ohm subwoofer on our main system and it handles that subwoofer beautifully. However, the newer XLS 1002 is in use on my desktop system to drive a pair of Mini-Magnepan speakers and Magnepan DWM bass panel. I use two DACs from Schitt as sources. Magnepan users tend to have audiophile gear; the Crown is pro gear, and it works very well. The unit is silent (no fan noise or hiss) and has excellent detail and imaging. The Maggie's need power; the Crown provides it, cleanly and with imaging and depth. The Crown also offers excellent connectivity, selectable input sensitivity, on-board DSP, and a mono bridged mode. Are there better, albeit more expensive amplifiers? Of course, and I have one in use for the left and right channels with our main hi fi system. Are there better, and more powerful, compact, and flexible amplifiers for the money? Perhaps not. My desktop system really makes my home office a pleasure. PS - Working with Sweetwater is a pleasure. Good advise and fast shipping.
