From Our Research Team:

You Can Carry This Hammond Under One Arm

The XK-1 utilizes many of the features of the XK-3 but in a premium package. You still get "The Sound;" you get "Real Drawbars;" you get waterfall keys (lighter industry standard keybed); you can plug in a Leslie 21 system… all this in a traditional Hammond cabinet. At only 33 lbs. the XK-1 is an essential part of any touring band's keyboard rig! And who better to give you the B-3 sound than Hammond, the B-3's inventor?

Hammond XK-1 At A Glance:
  • Vintage Tone Wheel and Extra Sounds
  • Presets, 1 Set of Drawbars, 2-rotor Digital Leslie, Vibrato/Chorus Knob
  • Pitch Bend, Modulation, MIDI, Transpose, Programmable Patches.
  • Weighs only 33 lbs!

Vintage Tone Wheel and Extra Sounds
This new Hammond XK-1 offers you the classic “tone-wheel” sound by utilizing two VASE III 96 Digital Tone Wheels. The XK-1's sampled waveform makes it possible to reproduce all of the characteristics of the vintage Hammond B-3. Waveforms include B-type, Mellow, Brite (Upper and lower), Muted, Normal, and Synth (Pedal). In addition, the XK-1 offers eight "Extra Voice" sounds such as electric piano.

Drawbars, Presets, And Leslie, Oh My!
But wait! The new Hammond XK-1 also includes a set of nine drawbars, a 2-rotor digital Leslie, a vibrato/chorus knob, a digital overdrive, 10 reverbs, and a built-in 3-band equalizer to go beyond the features you would expect to find on a vintage Hammond B-3.

Lightweight Modern Keyboard Technology Meets Vintage B-3
But there’s more. The Hammond XK-1 will perform like no previous tone-wheel Hammond could ever do, such as Pitch Bend/Modulation, Transpose and MIDI. The Hammond XK-1's library of 132 Programmable Patches allows you to save and store your own Drawbar combinations, MIDI information, whatever you like. All this in a compact 33-pound package. That's 33 pounds, NOT 430! Show up to a gig with a Hammond XK-3 and your band and your back will love you. (So will your fans.)

Hammond XK-1 Features:
  • Keyboard: 61 Waterfall keys with Velocity
  • Drawbar: 1 sets of Drawbars
  • Sound Generator: 2 x 96 Digital Tone Wheels.
  • Waveform: B-3 Long Loop Sampling.
  • Polyphony: Full Unlimited Polyphony
  • Internal Memory: 11 Presets x 12 Banks + Adjust
  • Leslie: High Quality 2 Rotor Digital Leslie
  • Pre-amp & Overdrive: Vacuum Tube Amplifier
  • Reverb: 10 Programs
  • Tone Controls: Bass, Mid-Range, Treble

The Hammond XK-1 is a lot of organ in a compact package!

Fantastic Organ in a gig-worthy package

I've had this board for about a month, which should be long enough for the shine to wear off of it, but it's still bright as the day I got it. The organ sounds are stunning, with an amazing amount of... read more [+] control. I can FINALLY get that great Hammond sound on stage, and only 35 lbs! Originally I was going to say that the leslie didn't sound the way I want it, but there's a way to program a custom leslie speed and mic position for a precise sound! There are built-in reverbs to wet the sound down, and the overdrive sounds great - a truly remarkable board! The midi implementation, while flexible, isn't perfect, it has some strangeness (like going to the 'cancel' patch always sends a patch change of 01,100 ?!?) but that's worth working around for such a fun-to-play instrument. Now, I've never ventured to the onboard non-organ sounds, but if you want piano, buy something else. This is an organ - and whether playing at home or out gigging, it's a great instrument to have in my setup! close [-]

The XK-1 is one of the better "B3 Clones"!!!

I have had this organ for over a year and decided that it might be time to write a review. First, I sold my XK3 with all the fancy things like the tube preamp and duo sets of drawbars because I just ... read more [+]did not like it. The XK1 sounds great and the leslie simulation through a stereo PA in a live stage setting is better than any of the following clones I have used which include the Roland VK7 and 8; Nord Electro 2 and 3; and the Hammond-Suzuki XK3. I have not played the newer XK3c yet but I do hear good things about it. The XK1 has a layout similar to the older XK2 which is very nice - I really loved that organ. I am not that crazy about the feel of the keyboard assembly and I understand that it is a Fatar and not a H-S design, but, it actually feels more like my 1963 B3 than any of the other clones I have played. The added sounds are horrible and just need to go away in future versions as also the phony wood. If I could get H-S to improve the Xk1, I would add a 12AU7 Tube in the Preamp for warmth and overdrive and not distortion. Secondly, I would put in the same keyboard assembly as in the XK3. Thirdly, end the wood look for a sleek metal/steel cabinet. Leave the wood to the real deal or and I guess the XK3c and XK33x (but start using real hardwood and get rid of the MDF under the thin vaneer). I also play my XK1 through a Speakeasy Tube Preamp into a vintage Leslie 147. That setup nails my real B3 sound through my Leslie 122. it has the warmth, the push and the overdrive. Bottom line - if you are in need of adding a Hammond B3 clone to your live performance gear for the 2nd tier of your keyboard stand, the XK1 is the very best for the money and it is total quality and holds up well and has the sound you are looking for. At this point, I just do not know of anything better on the market. The new XK3c may be better but look at how much more it cost. My XK1 is a KEEPER for sure! close [-]

Ninety-five percent of everything in this studio came from Sweetwater. My Sales Engineer is a lifesaver. I started working with him around 2005, talking to him about what my vision was for the studio. He was right there all the way.
