Rugged and Portable USB-C Audio Interface

The Steinberg UR24C is a compact audio interface with professional-grade sound and a flexible feature set ideal for home recordists and artists on the go. This 2-in/4-out USB-C interface is packed with two Class-A D-PRE microphone preamps with +48V phantom power, MIDI I/O, two line outputs, and four RCA outputs. So, you’re ready to rock, whether you’re tracking a stripped-down acoustic performance, recording a DJ session, or laying down vocals for your mixtape. And, with USB 3.0 connectivity and the included Cubase AI and Cubasis LE software, you can record to Mac, PC, or Android and iOS tablets. And recordists at Sweetwater appreciate the Steinberg UR24C’s rugged build quality, which can withstand chucking in a backpack or hauling in a gig bag between shows.

Capture your ideas anywhere

The Steinberg UR24C was designed to provide you with an amazing blend of connection options while remaining sleek enough to fit inside a backpack. Steinberg wanted to ensure you can capture your tracks the moment inspiration strikes. Whether you’re on the road, at a jam session, or at your home studio, just whip out the UR44C and an iPad, fire up Cubasis LE, and get going. You can then transfer your work to the full version of Cubase for mixing and mastering in your studio.

Included software for your computer or iPad

When you receive your UR24C, you'll receive a free download of Cubase AI. Cubase AI is a light version of Steinberg's Mac/Windows production software. For your iPad, you can download Cubasis LE, a full production studio with features that have been optimized for touchscreen control. For added convenience, projects you create on Cubasis LE can be opened up in Cubase on your studio computer. The ability to capture ideas on the go and take them back to the studio make using the UR24C a no-brainer.

Good in many ways, but not 5 stars

First the good things. Build quality is decent. Some of the moving parts felt a tiny bit on the cheap side. Love the powering options, class compliant operation. Small size, low voltage power required. You could go mobile with this easily. The four outputs are a big advantage here over the UR22C.

Latency performance seems very good. It will probably beat many interfaces in this price range in measured RTL. Very stable on Windows 10. Even connected to the USB 2 ports, low buffer settings. Included DSP is very nice, great for EQ and compression mainly. The Reverb is "monitor only" you can't print it. The amp simulators are on the not so great side, but you can get them into a usable state by tweaking and mixing later. But it's wonderful to see this inbuilt processing power, gives you options.

At the end of the day, the sound was just a little bit on the thin and trebly side. Just a tiny bit crunchy. I am comparing to expensive interfaces, so it's not an easy comparison for the UR24C. All of the projects I tracked with this had these sonic results. On the plus side, it's not noisy. Tracks were clean and completely usable. Just needed some extra EQ, saturation, etc.

Headphone amp was perhaps a little underpowered for my HD650, but sounded fine. Had to be turned up quite a ways.

Thanks to Emma and Philip Courtney for getting this to me when I really wanted it, great support from Sweetwater, even during the virus crisis. It didn't work out but there's a lot of good things to say for it. It's certainly better than most of the other interfaces I've used in this price category in the past. Alas, the search continues for that perfect fit. This is a stacked division right now, the inexpensive 2 or 4 input interfaces. Lots to learn.

Hardware works fine but problems with downloaded software

When I setup this audio interface with desktop I also installed, and authorized, all the available software for it except for the Cubase apps. I was a little disappointed that the included cable had a USB-A connector on one end because the sole reason I bought this particular unit was because it has a USB-C port and I wanted to free up one of my computer's USB-A 3.1 ports. No big deal because I can just buy another cable. My problems stemmed from using the Steinberg software. After inserting a couple of the Steinberg FX plugins in a Cakewalk for BandLab project I was no longer able to 'Save' or 'Save As' the project because of a "sharing violation". I ended up removing all the Steinberg software and now I'm having no problems. I downgraded the rating because of this problem with the plugins. Maybe I could have solved that problem but I have so many other plugins that I just didn't want to spend the time on it.

Good with not good policies ..............

Bought this from another seller last year before the Covid pandemic. The interface works very well and seems built well, but the included software bundle is a problem. The DAW would not download(would not accept serial number) and the plugins downloaded ok, but are designed for use on only one computer...after my PC system crashed, game over for free software bundle. I emailed Steinberg twice to no avail.

Does Steinberg think their bundle of plugins are that good to limit their distribution the way they have? No its now that good...

The idea of the way they try protecting their free software bugs me to no end...I love the interface and it works well for me in other aspects...
