Ultimate Performance Keyboard

Meet Genos, Yamaha's flagship arranger workstation. Boasting unparalleled sample quality, cutting-edge styles, and pro-level connectivity, Genos defines the state of the art in songwriting and performance keyboards. With its large, crisp 9" LCD color touchscreen, assignable knobs and faders with their own OLED parameter status displays for real-time feedback, and a silky 76-note, aftertouch-enabled FSX keybed, Genos puts you in complete command, letting you instantly find and tweak the perfect sound or whip up a great-sounding arrangement in any musical genre. And the sounds are amazing, indeed.

Sounds to die for

Yamaha's premium CFX and C7 concert grand pianos are jaw-dropping in their life-like realism. Recorded in world-class studios, Revo! Drums leverage unprecedented multi-dynamic sample layers and round-robin wave cycling to deliver the most breathtakingly realistic MIDI drums ever offered in a keyboard. Non-keyboard instruments are superbly rendered by Yamaha's acclaimed Super Articulation 2 sound engine. All sounds benefit from multiple state-of-the-art effects engines. Topped off by extensive onboard MIDI and audio recording facilities and seamless DAW integration, the Yamaha Genos is the only keyboard you need to ace an important gig.

Authentic ensemble performances, for true divisi playing within a section

The Ensemble Voices feature re-creates string, brass, and wind ensembles by intuitively mapping the instruments to their appropriate ranges for authentic-sounding ensemble performances. Previously, a Voice such as Brass Quartet would use a sample of four players. If you played two notes, however, you'd suddenly have eight players — which could be cool, but perhaps not entirely realistic. In Genos, Ensemble Voices always give you the same number of players because Yamaha designed into this instrument the musical knowledge of a professional music arranger. Play two notes with a Brass Quartet Ensemble Voice, and Genos will intelligently send the trumpets to the top notes and the trombones to the lower notes. We love it!

Enhanced DSP for studio-grade effects

Yamaha engineered Genos with enhanced DSP for a banquet of studio-quality effects that sound simply stunning. Included are meticulous models of coveted vintage rack and stompbox units as well as classic guitar and bass amps — all of which take full advantage of the gorgeous 9" TFT color LCD touchscreen with intuitive, high-definition displays that mimic the actual devices. These great-sounding effects include Yamaha's VCM (Virtual Circuit Modeling) — the very same technology as used by the studio-grade processing on the company's high-end digital consoles.

Handles massive arrangements with ease

When it's time to lay down a vocal, plug your condenser mic into the rear-panel XLR connector, switch on 48V phantom power, and you're ready to roll with a studio-grade signal chain the quality of which is unprecedented in a keyboard. As you layer your compositions, Genos will astound you with its ability to handle massive, lavish arrangements with poise and panache. A generous 256 voices of polyphony ensures there will be no note stealing. And with instant access to 1,652 instrument presets and 58 drum kits, you'll never run out of killer sounds. To quickly access your favorite configurations, Registration Memories provide an efficient way to save and recall panel settings such as Voice, Song, Pattern, and Style.

Yamaha built Genos for songwriting and performance. The swoopy, dynamic visuals of its svelte chassis are quite alluring from the audience perspective; yet to the player, its clean, no-nonsense layout is designed for unfettered creativity. At Sweetwater, we see a lot of powerful keyboard instruments; with the Yamaha Genos, we definitely have a serious contender for "ultimate performance keyboard."

Great arranger keyboard with amazing sounds...

ALERT: I have posted some media previously regarding the Genos on Sweetwater.com but unfortunately repeated computer problems have led to the deletion of said media. Really sorry for the inconvenience guys and gals. I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro recently and added some new hardware and things are now going swimmingly. I thought I'd add another video presentation of various Styles and Voices from the Genos in an extended version of the original that got deleted.

Many people think arranger keyboards are basically toys and years ago that was true but today nothing could be further from the truth. The Yamaha Genos in particular is able to rival the best traditional workstation keyboards currently on the market IMO. This video will give listeners some key insight regarding the Genos sonic capability. Yes, it's expensive, but if you're a singer/songwriter the Genos makes a great sketch pad for new song material. The OS version is currently 2.02 which added some new features/functions and other improvements. Enjoy!

Best Arranger/Workstation ever.

Past keyboards always had some great voices & styles--and others that sounded lousy. I gigged with three boards, to get the best voices and styles from each, and not use the crap each had. I've dreamed of ONE keyboard that would have ALL great voices & ALL great styles. Genos is that dream Keyboard. I used A Tyros II for guitars, woodwinds, Brass, and some great styles. Needed my Roland KF-7 then more recently Roland FP30 for way better piano than the Tyros. Third was my Korg PA 800 for many great styles, tuned percussion, and the best solo and ensemble strings; Tyros tuned percussion & strings were lousy. The 3 boards together provided the most realistic instrument sounds, and styles for this One-Man-Band.
Genos piano voices are fab (no graded hammer action, but I've grown accustomed to playing piano solos with its synth type keyboard). Genos provides me with all the features of a Hammond B-3 and a Leslie! The solo & ensemble strings are clones of the real deals! ALL Genos voices are stunning, better than all 3 prior boards! Styles are likewise fab. Genos was overwhelming on day !, and for the first few months. In reasonable time, I've learned to navigate, tweak, make awesome presets ready for gigs. Now a year later, I'm still finding new features that add more live band performance on gigs. Folks at my regular gigs comment and confirm how awesome my new Genos sounds. Time has shrunk from 90 minutes to a half hour each for set-up and break-down, since ditching 3 keyboards! Luv it! 1st video: Piano Solo, Chopin - Fantasy Impromptu. 2nd Video: Christmas - O Holy Night, Cello Solo with ensemble harmony.

For All You Naysayers Out There...

The Yamaha Genos is right up there with the best of the best in my opinion. This is an arranger keyboard but you don't have to use the Style accompaniment to thrill an audience. The Style accompaniment will make you sound like your own live band i.e. a one-man band, OMB for short. People will say because it's an arranger keyboard its gotta sound like a toy. That was the case years ago but those days are over. The Genos is Yamaha's flagship arranger and it does cost a pretty penny but if you Gig then this could be right up your alley and could be considered a solid investment. There are multiple ways to create music with the Yamaha Genos. If you're a songwriter the Genos makes a great sketchpad for creating songs. If you're a singer you can hook up a Dynamic or Cardioid microphone to the Genos plus there's a vocal harmonizer feature that actually sounds pretty decent when adjusted properly. Sounds are the most important aspect of any keyboard and the Genos' sounds (Yamaha calls them Voices) are top-notch in virtually every category. I provided a video demonstration to give you a better idea of some of the great sounds in the Genos. Enjoy!

Yamaha Genos Sonic POWER!

I wanted to do an update on the Yamaha Genos. Yamaha's latest OS version for the Genos is 2.02 which fixes a few bugs and adds new features and greater live performance enhancements. I noticed a couple negative reviews in this review section but again I think they were mostly upset about the new operating system layout which is much different than the Genos predecessor the Tyros 5. The person who owned a Clavinova and said the Genos was basically a toy and didn't sound that good may have listened to demos online e.g. YouTube, etc., and the musician possibly wasn't that skilled. Anyway, I went ahead and provided a video link to a song demonstration of the Genos so people can judge if it lives up to the hype. Enjoy!
