Sound Module for the Hybrid Drummer

The Roland TM-6 Pro drum module is built specifically for the hybrid drummer — those of us who incorporate samples into our acoustic drum setups. The TM-6 Pro's trigger response is lighting fast and stacks beautifully with acoustic mics. All 500 onboard one-shots, which include synth kicks, vintage drums, hand percussion, and kits from Roland's very own V-Drums vault, are accessible at a moment's notice. Now every live performance can carry the same emotional weight as a studio recording. You can even import your own samples and backing tracks via SD card for a custom performance. Three Sound Modify knobs adjust parameters like transients, pitch, effects, and more on the fly, while LED indicators give you visual feedback of which samples you're triggering with which pads. You can even use the TM-6 Pro as a MIDI converter to trigger virtual instruments in the computer. For live triggering convenience, consider the Roland TM-6 Pro from Sweetwater.

Reviews

Amazing module.
Probably Roland's most underrated module. This module covers any hybrid drum need you may have. I believe it's also great as a stand alone drum module. They kept 1/4 inch input jacks (much better than a db25 pin socket connector). Not sure why drum module manufacturers started doing this.
I personally had an issue with startup but it was my fault. Did a system update and all was good. Performing the update was super simple.
I wish the module was in a metal case but thats my opinion.
Fantastic module and very highly recommended.

For the synth drummers.
This little thing is packaged fantastically. Solid manual. First impressions of the UI is straightforward and easy to program of you have experience with deep dive sampling. It has all the great sounds we love from Roland. It packs so much potential for modern techno, breakbeat drummers, lo-fi producers. I am using this mostly for apartment volume dynamics with an emphasis on integrating modular synths and other sources. It's gonna be fun.

Great Drum Module
This is a fantastic unit. We use this in our home studio stacked with drum mics for lots of options. It was pretty simple to set the sensitivity levels and we were up and running very quickly. The midi records fast and accurate.
Roland TM-6 Pro Drum Trigger Module
I love this thing. I have a small home rehearsal/recording studio and the one thing that's kept me from getting great recordings were the drums. No more. I'm a guitar player, not a drummer and I debated going the electronic or hybrid route. I decided to go hybrid because the drummers I play with are used to acoustic sets. This module has great drum sounds built in, some may find it limiting but I've found the sounds I need. I especially like the ability to layer 2 drum sounds; I've been able to get a great kick and snare sound by doing that. I bought the Roland triggers for the kick, snare and toms and they function with the TM-6 perfectly. They worked right out of the box for me with no adjustments. The module has a small learning curve, is easy to set up and very intuitive. I already created 9 of my own drum sets with various combinations of kicks, snares and toms. I like the ability to route separate outs, although it could maybe use a couple more. I have the kick and snare on separate outs (and the 3 toms on another out), so it gives me the ability to control the 2 most critical drums. I'm using regular acoustic heads (not mesh) with studio rings. I record to a Tascam Model 16 which I also love. Alex Campos has always been very helpful in helping me pick the right gear, and this time was no exception.
Music background: Playing over 40 years, all styles guitar instructor, home recording studio.
Much More Than Hybrid...
This machine does so much and does it all well. The new sound set is the most creative I have heard with Roland doing ground up sound structuring from top names in renown studios. Admittedly, the acoustic drum sounds are not on the TD-50 tier, but the menu has some extremely interesting and lively creations that producers and music directors alike will welcome, IMO. Sound layering is big, allowing for lush panoramic stereo instruments limited only by ones creative abilities. The modern hip hop/r&b offerings are money with the module walks all over the old sounds offered by other manufacturers, Allegedly this is designed for players who have acoustic sets and want to be able to offer other electronic sounds live or in the studio. However, this is my go to sound set for just about every tap I get. Sure, I have a upscale Roland module, but it doesn"t get used much anymore except when music directors ask specifically for a TD-50. And guess what...they think the sounds they are hearing are coming from that module. haha
Music background: Professional

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
