The Standard of Excellence for Live Performance Looping

With six stereo phrase tracks and a huge range of onboard effects, the BOSS RC-600 Loop Station represents huge creative potential for modern loop artists. With two mic inputs, two instrument inputs, and three assignable stereo outputs, you have all the routing options you could ask for onstage or in the studio. Thanks to a comprehensive assortment of onboard effects, as well as the RC-600’s class-leading 32-bit sound quality, you’ll be looping with superior sonics and little need for external effects or processing. And with deep MIDI control support, the BOSS RC-600 Loop Station is ready to integrate with advanced setups for live performance.

Ample connectivity options

Whether you’re a solo singer/songwriter, an improvisational electronic musician, an avant-garde guitarist, or any other type of loop artist, the BOSS RC-600 Loop Station offers the connectivity you need. Vocalists will appreciate its pair of mic inputs, each with phantom power to support studio-quality condenser mics. Dual inputs are available for guitarists and bassists, and they also support line level for synthesizers and other electronic instruments. And with this many input options, Sweetwater is pleased to report that you also have flexibility on the output routing side of things, with a pair of stereo sub-outputs in addition to the main stereo output.

Comprehensive onboard effects

The RC-600 offers a ton of exploratory options for your loop phrases. A total of 49 input effects are available to shape your sound on the way in. Plus, once you have a loop going, you have 53 different track effects types to play with. Up to four effects can be used simultaneously for each loop section, offering practically unlimited effects potential without having to integrate external effects processors.

Complete performance solution

With 99 memory slots — each containing six phrase tracks, custom effects and playback settings, control assignments, and other customizations — the RC-600 Loop Station has the storage you need to load up for a performance. The RC-600 also offers advanced connectivity for integrating with larger setups. MIDI I/O is ready to keep your loops sync’d with a DAW or a MIDI sequencer; a pair of external control jacks — supporting two footswitches or one expression pedal each — further expand your ability to control the RC-600 remotely. BOSS knows that the needs of loop artists vary widely, which is why the RC-600 packs the connectivity and control options required to integrate with practically any type of live performance or studio workflow.

My first unit was a dud. The 2nd one works fine.

I sold my rc-505mkii recently. I tried using the 505mkii with a nectar pacer to control it with my feet while playing guitar. But midi cc messages you can assign aren't multifunctional like the buttons are on the 505. I was wanting to be able to long press a button and have it do a different MIDI message, for example. So I ended up deciding that the rc-600 was going to be worth the trade off. Even though it has way fewer controls and buttons, it has 9 switches that you can customize to anything you want including multifunctional switches like stop and clear if you hold the switch. After I got the 600, I was very much missing the ability to press the fx buttons like on the 505, the track faders, and even the track buttons to go into the track settings. But after I got the hang of where these things were in the menu, I much prefer having the floor 600 over the 505 for my purposes. For the faders, I've decided it's best to mix on the way in rather than after the fact anyway.

Ok, so the first unit I got was working fine and I was getting it set up and trying it out all night and it was fine. But the next day I tried to do a full performance with a custom switch layout, using all the tracks with various track settings, loop lengths and input fx. And about half way through getting the loops built up for a song, the unit totally froze. None of the buttons worked, the loop ring led stopped spinning, and I couldn't even turn it off. Oddly enough, it was still passing the guitar and microphone signal through to my PA speaker. I was reading about this and people were saying some units were prone to freezing and to just return it. So that's what I did. The 2nd unit I got hasn't frozen after a couple days of putting it through its paces.

So my advice is to really thoroughly test one of these before gigging with it or doing anything important with it. Once you get a working unit, there's really not another alternative that has as many inputs, outputs, fx, loop options or even tracks. I do find having an extra track over the 505 opens new possibilities of having a backing track or custom metronome on track 6 or something. I thought I'd never use the 6th track, but might now. So with all that being said, I'm still giving it 5 stars because I love it so much.

Great looper but not for the faint of heart

Be warned you are going to have to do a bunch of work to get this thing set up how you want it. There are just so many features that to get it right takes a bit of work with a very steep learning curve. It appears, judging by other reviews, that since the last update a lot of the glitches have been corrected. Go out and watch a bunch of videos, like by David Shanhun and John Paul UK, to see if you are willing to put in the effort. OK so much for the caveat. I love the work and this looper is sooooo much better then my first one I am excited. For instance, I use an drum app on my iPad a lot and use it to set the clock rate. I also use prerecorded loops some times. The clock signal has a start/stop MIDI message and because I like to start the drum loop first it would start the loop playing even when I didn't want to. This unit has setting where I can tell it to ignore the start message on all or any tracks that I want. I love the assign function where I can program my MIDI foot pedal to do what ever I want to do; turn on an effect, start or stop a loop, change memory, etc etc. It does only have 16 assigns so that might be a problem for some people I have heard. 6 inputs that are routable to just about where ever you want them to go. This was just brought to my attention last night and I am considering the implications. The list goes on. Check out the Facebook page. Do you need all these features. That my friend is for you to decide. May you just need a 2 button looper. This one is worth it but think about your decision.

Fantastic device!

Yes, it takes patience and some intellect to use, but once you've got it figured out, you are a one man band. Most of the negative reviews are from those who thought it would work by itself, take the time to learn how to use it and you will realize it's amazing capabilities!
Also, make sure you keep it updated, many improvements have been made since it's release.

Fantastic

The bugs are worked out, and now there is a third-party computer based memory editor. You can do anything with this pedal!

Do your research

This machine you might think "doesn't work" out of the box. It's because it's so smart that it's dumb. Watch YouTube videos! Read the manual! All the information is out there to program this just how you like it.

It took me about 3 months of use to get this dialed in to where I now use it nightly in live performance.
