No Compromise Compact DMX Control!

It's no wonder the Chauvet Obey 40 DMX lighting controller has found its way into DJ lighting rigs everywhere. Offering a combination of convenience and portability, with many of the advanced functions you'd only expect from a full-sized lighting board, the Obey 40 puts a ton of flexibility in your rack. Eight faders let you take control of up to 12 intelligent lights and 192 channels of DMX. A total of 30 banks of eight instantly selectable scenes lets you set up complex shows, and a set of six chase effects controls makes adding energy to your shows easy. On top of that, you even get fog and strobe control built right into the Chauvet Obey 40 DMX controller.

Chauvet Obey 40 DMX Lighting Controller at a Glance:
  • Compact enough for a mobile rig, powerful enough for installations
  • All of the hands-on controls you need to create memorable shows on the fly
  • Advanced controls let you operate strobe fixtures and fog machines
Compact enough for a mobile rig, powerful enough for installations

You don't need to cart around a large-format lighting board to create an impressive light show anymore, thanks to the compact yet flexible Chauvet Obey 40. With its extended feature set, not only does the Obey 40 let you control a multitude of simple fixtures, it also lets you get the most out of intelligent lights. What's more, you can set up complex chase effects and up to 240 entire lighting scenes before your show, making it easy to jump from one entire configuration to the next.

All of the hands-on controls you need to create memorable shows on the fly

If you've ever dealt with a minimalist lighting controller, then you already know how frustrating it can be to try and make changes on the fly without enough hands-on controls to tweak your lights effectively. Chauvet's Obey 40 controller makes this easy by providing you with eight dedicated faders and more than enough buttons to jump between scenes, trigger chases, and edit deeper functions on the fly. You'll be amazed by how easy it is to sit down at the Obey 40 and create a truly impressive light show.

Advanced controls let you operate strobe fixtures and fog machines

It's easy to add your advanced lighting gear into your Obey 40 rig, if you have a Chauvet strobe fixture or fog machine. These typically come equipped with special control ports (a 1/4" jack for strobes and a proprietary DIN for fog machines), which let you plug right into your lighting controller to make them part of your show. On top of that, the Obey 40 features MIDI input, which lets you sync your scenes and other events with your DJ software, DAW, or other MIDI sequencers.

Chauvet Obey 40 DMX Lighting Controller Features:
  • A compact 3-pin DMX lighting controller provides many full-scale lighting board functions
  • 8 faders give you essential hands-on control
  • Support for up to 12 intelligent lighting fixtures with 16 channels each
  • Provides up to 192 channels of DMX control

Chauvet DJ Obey 40

Still learning it but seems great for the price.
Music background: playing and shows for 50 years

Very nice controller

Have used a lower model with my previous band. This one is so much nicer. DMX programming is kind of clunky, but its not the fault of the controller. Plenty of youtubes to help you with this. Anyway - sat down with my guitar player a couple sessions and programmed about 20 or so scenes...More than we will use, but what the hell - once we got going, we were having fun.

One suggestion is to aim a light at a white surface and document color and effect settings. Once we had those down, it was easy to set the fixtures and create scenes.. (8 slim par 56 and a 6 spot).

Great features not so great build quality

The features you get on this board for the price are great. It's easy to learn and program. The build quality is very poor though, Several of the fader caps have fallen off and been lost and the buttons make poor contact so sometimes don't change scenes as expected. I use a midi controller to run it and that works pretty good though.

Chauvet Obey 40

I bought it for our church and am disappointed that it doesn't allow me to fade the lights between scenes and that it doesn't retain any memory. It seems overly complicated and maybe I just haven't figured out how to properly program it. It will suffice until I can find the right board.

Obey 40

I purchased the Obey 40 to control my new Tri Bar lights . The Chauvet Tri bar is excellent . My complaint is with trying to learn how to operate it with the Chauvet Tri Bar light ." IT IS EXTREMLY DIFFICULT " The instructions are not very clear , especially for a first timer such as me . I have spent several days reading and watching many videos and I still have not figured this system out ! I am rating it low because of the difficulty in learning how to operate it . It may be a great controller , but for novice like me , it is way to hard to understand.

Sweetwater lighting techs, DJs, and musicians alike have the deepest respect for Chauvet, both on the personal and on the professional side. Many of us first became acquainted with Chauvet before LED technology caught on, and it's been impressive to see their range of fixtures grow. Today, Chauvet offers some of our most popular LED lights, from drop-in PAR replacements and intelligent lighting instruments to exciting effects, foggers, haze machines, and more. We also love their innovation. Chauvet has brought LED technology to classic fixtures like ellipsoidal and Fresnels, while their D-Fi system has made wireless DMX truly accessible. Top it off with powerful hardware controllers, next-gen DMX control software, and much more, and we're happy to recommend the Chauvet gear we not only stock but also use ourselves.
