Compact, High-performance Active Monitor

Yamaha's MSP3A Powered Speakers offer a robust feature set that belies its small package. It's loaded with a 4-inch woofer and a 0.8-inch tweeter that combine to create a precise, well-balanced sound. The bass reflex enclosure and Twisted Flare Port fortify the bass response without muddying the tone. The RCA, XLR, and Phono inputs allow it to accommodate inputs you'll need. Plus, front-mounted controls make on-the fly level adjustments easier than pressing play. Musicians who demand accurate monitoring — but don't have much space to spare — will love the MSP3A Powered Studio Monitor from Sweetwater.

Bass reflex enclosure optimizes output

There's a reason the Yamaha MSP3A is so loud, and it's not just the large 4-inch woofer. The bass reflex enclosure and Twisted Flare Port combine to produce a euphonious low-end response with enhanced clarity and articulation. Its magnetic shielding and incredibly compact size allow the MSP3A to be placed near any type of audio, video, or computer equipment.

Flexible connectivity options and accessible controls

With the MSP3A, you connect a variety of sources. Line 1 features an RCA jack while Line 2 utilizes a combination XLR/Phone jack for compatibility with pro-level equipment. Both connections connections work simultaneously so you can play mix and monitor multiple audio sources at the same time. The MSP3A also features separate volume controls for Line 1 and Line 2, plus high and low tone controls for customizing your sound.

Yamaha MSP3A 4-inch Powered Studio Monitor Features:

  • Compact 2-way powered monitor
  • Flexible inputs let you connect a variety of sources
  • Dual input design allows for multiple sources to be mixed and monitored simultaneously
  • Front-mounted controls enable on-the-fly adjustments

Reviews

Amazing quality at affordable price.
This is a sleeper in the small monitor field. I was looking for a quality set of accurate, relatively flat response, small footprint monitors. After exhaustive research and testing, I settled on these Yamaha MSP3-A monitors. Yes, there are more powerful monitors in this range, but none delivered the balanced clean response that these did. One of my requirements was that the monitor could not have the dreaded noise associated with this style of active monitor. Much to my surprise, they are dead quiet, beating out other monitors that were three times as much. The features are perfect, and the sound did not disappoint. After reviewing previously mixed material on these new Yamahas, I found lots of glaring errors that my studio headphones did not represent correctly. I don't think Yamaha marketed these correctly, or at all. Having previously worked with the fabled NS-10's, I can only describe these as a very close but refined cousin that has all the same qualities, but with a much smoother delivery. They are super clear, full and not overly hyped in the bass. These probably wouldn't be my first choice if I was mixing bass heavy tracks, but for my needs they are perfect.
Great for a small workspace. A lot heaper than the 3" Genelecs.
I couldn't get 5" monitors to fit in my small workspace. Unfortunately, all of the reviews online for these 4" Yammies were either in Portuguese or Japanese, but I took a chance and bought a pair anyway. Glad I did.

I'd been using JBL hardware, but I can see now why Yammies are so popular. The bass on these 4" Yammies isn't overpowering, but it's tight, not boomy at all, which was a pleasant surprise. Everything else in the audio range is very clear. I think people producing bass-heavy pop music will want a sub.

A bonus about these Yammies is that all of the controls are on THE FRONT, facing my desk. I don't have to get out of my chair to make adjustments.
