16 Midas Pro Preamps in a Rackmount Mixer

Combining 16 award-winning Midas Pro microphone preamplifiers, four amazing DSP engines, extensive control options, and a full 18-channel audio interface, the Midas MR18 isn't just a killer digital mixer for live sound, it's also an amazing addition to your recording studio. It borrows heavily from the highly successful M series mixer line, including essential live sound tools such as four independent DSP effects engines, dynamics and EQ processing for each bus, and Ultranet connectivity for Behringer Powerplay P16 personal monitor system compatibility. What's more, the MR18 features auto mixing, making it one of the most user-friendly portable mixers out there. Best of all, it fits perfectly in your 19" equipment rack, so you can easily take all of this mixing power anywhere you go.

Loaded with legendary Midas Pro Preamps

Midas Pro microphone preamplifiers are praised throughout the live sound industry. Their high common-mode rejection ratio and low harmonic distortion produce transparency that's so good, they are perfectly suited for studio recording as well as sound reinforcement. To make the most of all 16 of these stellar preamps, Midas outfitted the MR18 with 40-bit floating-point DSP architecture capable of sustaining 112dB of dynamic range. It provides the best possible accuracy for the onboard Dugan-style auto-mixing engine. This brilliant bit of processing actually manages microphone levels for you, cutting down the gain of unused preamps and balancing the levels between multiple presenters or performers. Together, these technologies practically guarantee a professional sound.

Flexible DSP for effects, EQ, and dynamics

Powerful digital signal processing is one of the key components that has made the medium-format M32 one of the most popular digital mixing consoles Sweetwater has carried, and it's all available to you in the ultra-compact MR18. In fact, the MR18 comes loaded with four DSP effects processors. Choose from legendary studio gear and industry-standard effects that let you enhance your audio in powerful and creative ways. This onboard DSP also extends to the stereo master bus and all six aux buses, providing them with full dynamics processing plus your choice of 6-band parametric or 31-band graphic EQs. If you've been running live sound for some time, then you're probably going to need a smaller rack, because there's no reason to haul around a ton of outboard gear when you're mixing on a Midas MR18.

Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and MIDI control onboard

Rackmount digital mixers like the Midas MR18 are always a bit of a daunting concept to anyone who hasn't used one before. Luckily, Midas has a well-established history of providing reliable wireless control over their digital mixers via a number of avenues. First up, there are free apps for iOS and Android that let you harness the full potential of your MR18 wirelessly, making it easy to control the mix from anywhere. A tri-mode Wi-Fi router built into the MR18 ensures that you'll always have the best possible connection to your mixer. An Ethernet connection provides even more secure control via your Mac, Windows, or Linux PC with the provided control software. And if you prefer hands-on control, you can hook up any MIDI control surface via 5-pin MIDI or USB and take command of the mix with tactile faders, buttons, and knobs.

Advanced monitor mixing and recording options

The MR18 may be a compact mixer, but its capabilities are absolutely huge. A lot of that has to do with the bonus features Midas included in its design. First up, its Ultranet compatibility lets you connect a Behringer Powerplay P16 personal monitoring system for extensive onstage monitor control and audio distribution. This alone makes the MR18 an ideal mixer for any band who wants to be in control of their own sound. Keep an iPad onstage, and you don't even need a sound man! Next, there's the MR18's full 18-channel USB 2.0 audio interface. This capability is perfect for both studio and live recording, making the MR18 a true all-purpose workhorse mixer.

Midas MR 18

Happy with this unit that replaced my Yamaha MG12xu. No problems with the built in Wireless card and although I see a lot of complaints I do not have any. I use an android phone scanner at each venue to let me know what wireless channels are being used in the area and I simply pick one that's not used to prevent interference. Also secured wireless connections to prevent devices from randomly connecting as it only allows 2 I believe. The sound is so much better than the Yamaha mixer I replaced. I purchased a low cost HP touchscreen laptop that folds into a 14.5 in. tablet and weighs 2 lbs. Coupled with a $ stylus its extremely easy to operate. Software is current and up to date. Lots of features and so easy to learn, plenty of inputs and light weight. Being able to save configurations is a real time saver with repeat venues or multiple config. settings. Lastly you can use it to record live venues with USB connections and DAW or in the Studio. What's not to like?

Perfect solution for my situation. This mixer replaced my PA in my studio, and my audio interface for recording.

Excellent Mixer - Disregard Neg Wifi Comments

First off, this is an excellent mixer - if you know how to use it properly. This means DO NOT use the built-in wifi (you dont need it and its a minor inconvenience). You can connect directly using an Ethernet cable. I do not ever use wifi with this mixer. If you feel like you must use wifi, simply add your own router with an Ethernet cable and use that to connect. You might as well connect directly.

Plus, giving others access to mess with bus settings is a recipe for issues before or during gigs. I recommend you dial in their preferences during practice and tweak it for them if they want a little boost to hear themselves more.

Next, do yourself a favor and pay $ to get David Schumann's "Mixing Station" App. It is great, reliable and easy to use software to control your awesome X Air mixer.

Now you have awesome hardware, connectivity and software.

Now go play with your awesome music equipment (without any issues).

Glad I made the switch to digital!

If you're in the fence about going from analogue to digital mixer, this unit (and its twin the CR-18) won't let you down. Not only does it sound great: but its super compact, and you have tons of control over the board including stellar sounding effects and gates/comp etc
Another thing that has hugely impacted me was the quality of Youtube channels out there that go through this board in a very detailed manner. Musicians Pro as well as Alan Hamilton go through the software for the Midas/Behringer units that has taken away all the anxiety if learning a digital console.
A lot of folks complain about the wifi: that is a myth. As I learned on the afore mentioned YouTube channels, you need to set your built in wifi to incorporate a simple 5 digit password and switch channel off of 1, and you will literally have rock solid wifi connectivity with no interference or drops.

Thanks to Zach Shepard for his tremendous job getting me the best deals out there and for recommending a rack case and power amp to work with my speaker setup, since I didnt want to use the powered speaker setup thats becoming more popular at smaller venues.

My first Sweetwater purchase - a Midas MR18 iPad controlled digital mixer - was an amazing experience!

I was searching for an iPad controlled digital mixer, and after a fair bit of research had settled on the Behringer Air XR18 as the best bang for the buck. Unfortunately, none of my local music stores had any in stock. I looked on-line for a Canadian supplier, and the best I could get was "if you put 30% down, we be able to get you one in the 1st quarter of 2022"! The next step was eBay - I saw one that seemed to be a decent price, so I purchased and paid for it. Seven days later, the seller cancelled the order claiming that there was some confusion with his stock status - yeah, right.

At this point, I was almost ready to give up, but decided to take another tack and do a search for the Midas MR18 mixer, which is the Behringer XR18's upscale (but more expensive) cousin. An ad for Sweetwater came up, and BINGO - it was on sale for $, for only a few bucks more than Behringer deal that fell through on eBay! Given my recent on-line experiences (and a negative experience buying from another not-to-be-named large American music retailer years ago), I was a little trepidatious about ordering on-line, so decided to call Sweetwater on Monday and speak to someone in person. I was immediately put through to a "real live person", Nathaniel, who offered up a warm and sincere "How are you doing today?". My first two questions were 1) Do you actually have these in stock? - "Yes, lots of them", and 2) Do you ship to Canada? - "Yes, no problem". And Nathaniel waived the shipping fee to boot - SOLD! We spent a few minutes getting the paperwork done and exchanging a little bit of our history/backgrounds, I paid for the item using PayPal, and he told me it could arrive anywhere from Thursday to next Wednesday, which I thought was quite optimistic given the fact that it would have to travel across the continent and cross the border into British Columbia, Canada. Well - 2 hours after we got off the phone, I received a notification that the package had been shipped, and literally 76 hours after I ordered it the Midas MR18 arrived at my door - UNBELIEVABLE! This is the kind of stellar service that we used to take for granted, but is in such short supply today. Thank you Nathaniel and Sweetwater, you have restored my faith in long-distance purchasing, and you'll be my first stop for future purchases!

Now to review the actual product. I've just set my unit up, and have yet to gig with it, but I did have a chance to use an equivalent Midas M32 digital mixer and the M-Air software a few weeks ago on a theater gig. For reference, I started my musical/audio career in late 1960s, when a basic 6 or 8 channel mixer with treble and bass controls, one monitor send, and spring reverb would set you back a month's wages (think Shure Vocalmaster, Peavey, Sunn, etc.). The idea that you can now purchase a 16 channel "box" that can be controlled remotely from anywhere in the room (no snake, thank you!), has pristine Midas quality pre-amps, parametric eq, gates & compressors on every input, dynamics and 1/3 octave equalization on the L/R Mains and 6 aux sends/monitor mixes, built in RTA, a plethora of effects like reverbs, delays, choruses, etc., has the ability to save and recall settings, and at the same time can be used to record all 16 channels digitally to a DAW... is truly mind boggling to me! 20 years ago, this kind of power (minus the remote mixing capability) would have cost you well over $50,000, you'd need truck to haul the mixing board and racks full of equivalent processing gear around, and an hour or two just to cable everything up. Bring on the future!
