Compact Digital Mixer with dLive Power

The Allen & Heath Avantis digital mixer was built to revolutionize the way you mix live sound. Equipped with the same dLive technology as Allen & Heath’s flagship mixers, the Avantis is a 64-channel/42-bus compact console that strikes the perfect balance between old-school analog mixing and cutting-edge digital processing. Those who love analog mixers will appreciate the 24 channel strips complete with manual faders and PAFL switches. The unit has dual 15.6-inch DSP touchscreens that offer gesture control, fully customizable routing options, and 144 fader strips (24 faders, six layers). Whether it’s handling a few mic connections or synchronizing gear with the word clock and connecting to a Dante network, the Avantis can handle all your live sound needs.

Customizable layout gives you total control

If you’re like Sweetwater’s audio engineers and want to control as much of the performance as possible, you’ll love the Avantis. Why? This compact unit gives you total control over mix bus architecture and lets you customize the layout in whatever way that makes the most sense to you. Avantis is loaded with Continuity UI that uses drag ’n’ drop parameters and physical controls to create an intuitive workflow with at-a-glance navigation. As if that’s not enough control, the Avantis by Allen & Heath has 24 assignable SoftKeys and user-configurable rotary controls.

Dual 15.6-inch touchscreens turbocharge your workflow

Allen & Health wanted to make the Avantis their most flexible compact mixer yet. To do that, they loaded the unit with Continuity UI and two 15.6" high-definition touchscreens. These screens are ultra responsive and utilize gesture controls to pinch, swipe, and drag ’n‘ drop your way through the intuitive interface. You can open configurable widget areas to load up your scenes, meters, and use RackExtra FX to add effects like Reverb, Chorus and Delays. With the abundance of options and user control, your workflow will look and feel exactly how you want it to.

Superior expandability can handle it all

Straight out of the box, Avantis can handle 12 XLR inputs and outputs, network I/O and SLink connections to handle 64 channels at a time with 144 fader strips. The Avantis has two I/O ports on the back that are each capable of 128 x 128 operation at 96kHz for cards including Dante, MADI, Waves, and gigaACE. This mixer has an SLink port that controls your I/O expanders, stage boxes, and networked equipment. The Avantis is equipped with word clock I/O that keeps all your digital gear perfectly synced to ensure your show runs without a hitch.

Avantis w/GX4816

Installed the second Avantis w/4816 & Dust Cover on our church campus in our chapel. We have been using the Avantis system (GX4816) in our main sanctuary since Summer of 2022 with two ME-1 personnel mixers. Our tech team loves the capabilities and we decided to use the same digital mixer in the chapel (Looked at A&H SQ series, but for compatability & reduced training went with Avantis). We had a 40 channel analog A&H board in the sanctuary and this most recent change in the Chapel was from a 32 channel analog board. Used it last Sunday, needed to work out a few minor bugs during warm-up and during the live streamed service. The capabilities are fantastic. For both Sanctuary & Chapel the ability to save settings, make changes for a different type of program and then recall the old settings are fantastic. We are still learning all the capabilities. It is a great board.

Good Mix experience and Good Sound

Strengths: While I have not spent any where near as much time on other consoles, the biggest plus for this one is making quick mix decisions in a moderately sized venue/gig. Every layer is custom, so I get max flexibility and can design it how I like. Yes, you can mix with a touch screen. And often faster than nicer dial-heavy consoles.

I'm not overjoyed with the effect add-ons, but the 16 dynamic compressor and eq pairs are pretty nice.

Cons: Being 100% custom means setup and routing time ranges from "ok" to "i hate my life." The really negative moments are usually impromptu set changes.

Initially ours came with a faulty module, which introduced glitches in the fader memory after about 2 years. Had to replace both fader banks, but it only seems to be a problem with the older models.

Versatile and Intuitive

Our church purchased this board about 2 months ago and the experience has been amazing so far. We replaced our prior Soundcraft SI Expression 3 and analog snake with the Avantis paired with the GX4816 stage box. The connection is plug and play, and the large dual screens give plenty of information and feedback. These made setup so easy that we were able to map everything on the board even prior to switching the systems out. Training is easier as well, as there is a good balance of information being shown on the screens without being too much.

It does take some getting used to the Avantis after working with Soundcraft's FaderGlow, but the large digital scribble strips is an upgrade. One actual complaint I have is the lack of integration for Shure's SLXD microphone systems. It is just one step below the QLXDs which are integrated, so I hope this feature is added in a future firmware update.

I also cannot wait for the dante option cards to become available. This would allow us great flexibility in audio routing between our sanctuary, media room, and other rooms in the building.
