Period-correct Gretsch w/TV Jones Pickups and Bigsby

Made famous by the Beatles' George Harrison, the Gretsch G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman hollowbody electric guitar captures the essence of rock 'n' roll. Its arched maple body yields a deliciously open snap that's beautifully enhanced by a pair of vintage-voiced TV Jones Classic humbuckers. The result is a refined, articulate tone and full, larger-than-life playing experience. This guitar's standard U-shaped maple neck and 12"-radius ebony fingerboard are enormously comfortable, regardless of your fret-hand style. With a Bigsby tailpiece and period-correct specs, the Gretsch G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman hollowbody electric guitar delivers authentic early '60s pop tone.

Arched maple body provides your tone with excellent definition

Maple has to be one of the most lively, bright, and colorful tonewoods out there, which is exactly why Gretsch decided to make their G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman almost entirely out of this wonderful wood. At Sweetwater, we've found that this hollowbody's arched body yields a wonderfully snappy, open tone that, when combined with the dynamic sound of its TV Jones Classic pickups, cuts through a dense mix and sounds great in any situation.

TV Jones Classic pickups deliver timeless Gretsch tone

When you want that classic '50s-era Gretsch tone, you need real TV Jones humbuckers. That's why Gretsch gave their G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman a pair of TV Classic pickups. Designed to sound just like the humbuckers found in '50s and '60s Gretsch guitars, these pickups give your guitar a bright and open sound that's jangly on your highs with the kind of bite you'd normally associate with single-coil pickups. It's the perfect sound for rock, rockabilly, blues, country, and more.

Three volume controls + one tone switch = exceptional sonic flexibility

It's easy to stereotype the Gretsch G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman until you play it, and then you realize you can pull off a lot of tonal tricks with it. With a volume control for each pickup, you can create your perfect balance between warmth, bite, and brilliance when both pickups are engaged. The 3-way tone selector switch lets you fine-tune your sound once you have the pickups dialed in. And thanks to the master volume control, you can take your tube amp from clean to growling without changing the balance between your pickups. Of course, you'll get sweet tone from the neck and bridge pickups individually, but there's a lot of territory to cover when you combine them.

Bigsby tailpiece yields smooth vibrato action

Nothing beats the character and vintage vibe that a real Bigsby-style tailpiece adds to the Gretsch G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman. Based on the original design created by Paul A. Bigsby, this Bigsby Licensed tailpiece requires next to no effort to use, making it particularly easy to pull off slow, subtle, and extended bends.

Gretsch G6122T-62GE Hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Hollowbody electric guitar with period-correct specs
  • Arched maple body delivers a deliciously snappy, open tone
  • TV Jones Classic pickups yield sweet, vintage character
  • Highly playable standard U-shaped maple neck with ebony fingerboard
  • 3 volume controls and a 3-way tone selector switch create exceptional sonic flexibility
  • Bigsby tailpiece provides smooth vibrato action

Reviewing The Gretsch G6122-62GE Vintage Select Country Gentleman Walnut Stain

First, Taylor Perry did a great job! I was ready to buy from Guitar Center but the wait was 6 months. I was ready to wait. I really did not want to purchase from an online distribution because returns are difficult, and I often return guitars if they are not up to my standard. Taylor understood and he did not try to pressure me. I asked relevant questions about returns, and Taylor basically allowed me to sell myself on the idea of the online purchase. That is what happened.

There were 4 of these in stock and he allowed me to pick which serial # I wanted. My selection was based on about 20 pictures of each guitar sorted by each serial number. I made my pick, and I received the proper guitar 2 days later. I wanted to share the unboxing with Taylor on the phone but it didn't work out because his voice mail (13 times) kept answering!

I was afraid of what might be in the box (meaning will it be damaged), but the guitar of course was beautiful and flawless!

What can I tell you about this guitar that might be helpful to you the reader?
You know the guitar is quite elegant! The body is 2 and 1/16th inches deep. The Lower Bought is 17 inches wide.

There are no "F" holes! Instead, there are two "Black Painted" F hole shapes. So, there are no sound holes. the guitar is still pretty loud. The finish is polyester. I'm sending some pictures along with this review.

I think the most important point I can make is that I own 13 guitars. of them, I have 6 Gretsch guitars, and I own a very high quality and very valuable collectable Suhr Telecaster guitar. I also own a very high value Martin Guitar. I must honestly say that "I can certainly feel the quality of the 6122-62 which is leaps and bounds over all the others! I'm not just saying that! I was shocked!

I hope you find this helpful! Jesus Christ Loves you all very much! I hope you learn about Him!
Music background: I'm just a noodler, I play scales and argeios just for fun. I can't find someone to jam with so I noodle!

The King of guitars

Immaculate execution and quality. Known as Chet Atkins ' creation and made famous by him and George Harrison, I have longed to own on ofvthese since I learned to play over 50 years ago. I just got one this Christmas for myself and my playing life is now complete. Stunnjng build quality and it plays like a dream. Extreme versatility and a wonderful tone pallet.
It is worth every penny.
Music background: 58 years playing fingerstyle and blues both acoustic and electric.

Truly believable slogan!

Listening to Chet Atkins for the first time when I was 14 convinced me of That Great Gretsch Sound. Some slogans really do live up to their name.
Music background: Guitar obsessed since a child.

Worth every penny

I have a number of guitars and a few old Gretsch Chet Atkins models. This plays very much like an old one but doesn't have the binding falling apart in my hands. Nice to not have the old binding smell, fretware, and neck that probably should be reset like my others. There is a mojo old ones have that new ones just don't have of course..but old Gretsch guitars tend to need work. If you don't want to have people ask you when you are going to restore your binding every night this might be for you. Only con to these guitars is they should have put the strap button on the neck like Gibson did..they seem neck heavy and it might bother some…not as much as it bothers some who carve their arms into cracked body binding to fight neck dive so there is that. Neck profile is much like a 50s neck of the mid 90s Les Paul's so if you like those you will be right at home. Guitar sounds good under power with pedals and good clean…secret is leave both pickups on to fight hum and dial the tone in with the neck volume knob. Spendy guitar but it's decent.

The best!

Guitar tone and playability are personal issues for every guitar owner. For me, this instrument is as good as it gets. I change strings on this guitar more often than any other guitar I own; it gets used that much.
Beautiful tone, fun to play, beautiful to look at. What more is there?
Music background: Old guy who loves to entertain his dog.
