Accelerated Transient Response

The Behringer Europower EP4000 has been over-engineered, with hyper-attention paid to every part of the circuitry. It takes massive pulses of current and voltage to move a woofer cone quickly enough to reproduce a kick drum beat. We're talking transient response - the holy grail of amp designers. Employing carefully selected transistors with ridiculously high slew rates, the EP4000 can react immediately to even the most challenging electronic low frequency impulses. If your PA system's woofers can keep up with the music, your audience will hear tighter, crisper sound. And that's a good thing.

Built-in limiters

The Behringer Europower EP4000 is fitted with a Clip Limiter, so you can wring max power out of the amplifier without overdriving it - or your speaker system. Built-in circuitry automatically senses when the EP4000 is about to clip, then momentarily reduces input levels to sidestep clipping. All this occurs in a few thousandths of a second, giving you an inaudible method to avoid audible distortion. (If you're feeling lucky, of course, you can always switch the limiters off!)

Built like a tank

Behringer's Europower EP4000 is packed with notoriously reliable Toshiba/Fairchild power transistors, as well as a high-current toroidal transformer that gives you uber-high transient response and brick-like reliability. Independent DC and thermal overload protection circuitry on each channel protects the amp (and your speakers) from show-stopping meltdowns. Best of all, there's no need for fuses - one less headache to deal with. If reliability is important to you (and why wouldn't it be?), the Behringer Europower EP4000 stereo power amp will give you peace of mind, along with great sound.

Behringer Europower EP4000 Stereo Power Amplifier Features:
  • ATR (Accelerated Transient Response) technology for ultimate punch and clarity
  • Switchable limiters offer maximum output level with reliable overload protection
  • Detented gain controls for precise setting and matching of sensitivity
  • Precise Power, Signal and Clip LEDs to monitor performance
  • XLR and 1/4" TRS input connectors for compatibility with any source
  • Professional speaker connectors and touch-proof binding posts support most speaker wiring systems
  • Selectable low-frequency filters remove damaging infrasound frequencies
  • Independent DC and thermal overload protection on each channel automatically protects amplifier and speakers
  • High-current toroidal transformer for ultra-high transient response and absolute reliability
  • Back-to-front ventilation system including air filter for reliable operation
  • Rugged, impact-resistant, all-steel 2U rackmount chassis
  • High-quality components and exceptionally rugged construction ensure long life

Update on the older review

Well, I've pushed these hard, they still sound great. Now own 5 of them.

Behringer did a hell of a good job with these amps.

Great purchase

Good quality product at a great price.

Beautiful clear sound

If you like crystal clear, loud music, this amp delivers.

Using one of these for a pair of JBL JRX215 monitors. Also using the EU2000 to drive a pair of JBL JRX218's. In both cases, the amp can deliver a clear signal to the point the speakers max out (and remains clear through the entire range until hearing protection is required..). Ordered a second EU4000 amp to drive a pair of JBL PRX425. Will review again once those arrive.

The 50hz low cut option is nice to drive mids / highs (if you use separate subs, frees up headroom on the mids), and on subs, the 30hz low cut is nice on subs to eliminate subsonic eyeball vibrating lower ghost notes if you choose.. although some folks like that though?

One caveat - watch your power draw. This amp is labeled 1700w at full power - which is 14.16 amps @ 120v. If you try to drive this hard there's not a lot of supply left for other gear, especially if you are on a 15 amp receptacle. Try to keep cabling runs as short as you can. The amp comes with a thick 120v cord, but has the 15 amp parallel blade connector, so no adapter needed. If you run multiple amps each will need their own circuit.

While the amps support parallel mode, there is not a ground lift selector on these amps so if you put stack them you'll have to deal with any ground loop issues on your audio signal chain another way.

The right power amp for the money

I ordered the Behringer Europower EP4000 for my church from my friends at Sweet Water, it arrived a couple of days later in perfect condition. It hooked right up in place of the old Crown power amp we had that tended to shut down after about five minutes of use. This of course created a problem which meant no stage monitors. The EP4000 solved the problem and we had constant loud monitors throughout our worship service. I have looked at other power amps, but the price for one with enough power was well over a grand, the EP4000 was under five hundred. The music minister was pleased and I (the organist)was able to hear the praise singers, the unit didn't fail through a three hour service. We'll see if the EP4000 endures for a good long while, but bang for your buck, this unit has it hands down. Our monitors played loudly throughout our worship service and the preaching and alter service.

Work Horse for over 10 years.

I have four the these EP-4000 amps I use with four JBL MRX-528 Dual 18 4KW subs. Not a single issue. I often operate these amps at 2,500 to 3,000 watts when I DJ large gigs. Has never let me down. Sadly though I will have to upgrade my subs and RCF's I plan on buying need a 6KW amp.
