ReviewsAn ideal DAW platform
by Marc from Salt Lake City, UT
You look at the screen shots, you read some tutorials before getting into Cubase SX 3, and you expect to have a hopelessly complex program on your hands with endless menus and hidden features that you... read more [+]'re sure to never uncover. Now, recording software, in addition to supporting your hardware, sounding good and being able to run stable, should also be easy to use, after all, your DAW becomes a music instrument once you apply it. Cubase SX 3 was probably the most intuitive program I have ever used. The first time I used the program, I would try to change a setting or add EQ or compression to a track, and before reaching for the manual or going online, I'd poke around and make a guess. Usually a setting would be right where I expected it to be, if not it was in the second place I would guess, and usually for good reason. It took me minutes to become accustomed to the interface and I was discovering shortcuts and better ways to route audio and intergrate plug ins that I would have ever thought. close [-]

Like all software, nothing is perfect, but for general all around professional recording, Cubase is probably the best. It can do just about anything you need it to, and it's very third party plug-in f... read more [+]riendly. Best of all, it just sounds good; it almost sounds analog. close [-]

I am a musician of many years but am some what new to computer recording. I have used cubase LE before this and I must say there are more features in this than I think anyone would ever use. Though I'... read more [+]m not a recording engineer I know what sounds good. I have made demos with this that are as good as a demo gets and thats all I can ask for. I would rate it higher but have never compared it to anything else. I wish it was a little cheaper close [-]
July 28, 2006 Music Background: Pro Musician Mixed Feelings
by Phil from
I jumped from VST 5.1 and this is a much superior product, it's not even close. But after comparing it to Logic 7, and (believe it or not) Mackie Traction, I cannot say that Cubase is the best system.... read more [+] The main pro's are that it has a huge user base, and a tremendous amount of plug-in's, and a do-it-all capability. The negatives are that Steinberg is notorious for poor customer service, and once you use something like Traction, you realize how much space the GUI of Cubase takes up. Worst of all is Steinberg's insistence on a dongle in order to run the program. There's got to be a better way. Bottom line - Take a look at some of the other systems before buying here. In the end you might find something else you like better, or maybe Cubase will be for you. close [-]
