Before Pro Tools 8 this was unheard of - you would need to spend five times that to have those capabilities. If you take a step back and really look at the value of the Complete Production Toolkit bundle you will see that $2000 is very reasonable compared to the thousands of dollars you would spend on an HD rig. For the serious engineer looking to expand their LE rig, this is the obvious way to go, not only do you get the 128 tracks, you get all of the virtual instruments and processors included.
