ReviewsPretty nice mic
by Aldo Sulotto from Italy, Turin
I'm using this mic home for acoustic intruments (guitars, ukulele, banjo, percs etc) and voice.February 18, 2009 Music Background: Musician and singer Well, compared to other low bdg stuff this is surely the best choice you can buy. The C3000B is great for female vocalists. I used an Audio Technica Pro 37R for the lead vocalist of a female trio that I recorded, but just could not get her track to sound good during mixing. Too muc... read more [+]h low-mid that I couldn't take away from the mix.Her mid's between 1-4 Khz were brittle and harsh. As a last minute effort, I had her redo her vocal part on 2 songs with the C3000B, and the difference was IMMEDIATE. I used the mic without the -10DB pad, in cardioid pickup mode, and with the low cut switch on:she sounded wonderfull! Unfortunatley, we had a deadline for the project's release that would not allow me to redo her part on the whole CD. But I know what to go to first in the future! September 3, 2007 Music Background: Live/recording engineer/ Singer However, I would NOT recommend this mic for recording male vocalists. I have a baritone-bass voice and cannot dial in the sound I need live or tracking. It gives me and others that I've used it on a "grainy" texture that dosen't fit with the voices I've used it on. close [-] Decent Mic for Some Sources, Not Recommended for Vocal for lack of Low-End Extension
by Justin from USA
OK here's the deal.. for the current price there are better choices for a vocal mic than the c3000b. The main issue I have owning this microphone is even with a stellar preamp (when I do use it, I ... read more [+]use it with the Great River NV) , it's severely lacking in low-end response. Also there is a bit of the tinny, overly hyped, Chinese-built sound to it. ~$400?? For that I can think of a couple of other mics (lots of decent Audio-Technica mics in that range) that kick its proverbial rear end. Overall, 2.5 / 5, speaking as a vocalist with long term experience with this model. close [-]
June 7, 2009 Music Background: Engineer, Producer, Vocalist, Pianist, Project Studio Owner Good alternative to chinese mics
by BS from
The AKG C3000B is a good microphone in its price range. It doesn't have that hyped high-frequency sound like you know from many cheap chinese condensers (MXL, Studio Projects, etc.), so there should be... read more [+] less problems with sibilance or shrill vocals. A Studio Projects B1 sounds very harsh in comparison to the C3000B. But microphones will always be a matter of taste. I like the unhyped sound (especially for higher voices) of the C3000B and for the price of 200 Euros there's nothing to complain about. May 21, 2006 Music Background: Recommended (in its price range) for "thin" male and female voices. Especially if you're on a budget and have problems with sibilance. close [-] Go for something else!

I have used this mic for 2 years and I don't recomend it. Not because it is a bad mic, but... Just save a little more and you will get a big step up than the thin and harsh sound of this one.
