ReviewsBogner Alchemist Is Awsome

This amp sounds unbelievable. It is really versatile. I was suprised by how cool the built in delay and reverb functions are. They are very useable. The low wattage switch lets you choose half p... read more [+]ower for home studio recording if you don't wish to alarm your neighbors too much. Because at full power this amp can get real loud. It is pretty loud at half power too. For a 1x12 combo amp this is a great choice if you don't want to compromise on tone. Thank you David Hess (1398) close [-]
February 8, 2012 Music Background: Studio Owner / Hobbyist My First Tube Amp, Amazing
by David Heilig from Sandusky, Michigan
I bought this amp five months ago as a Christmas present to myself. I could not be happier. I upgraded from my crappy Line 6 piece o' crap to a premium tube amp and honestly tubes sound amazing. I pla... read more [+]yed this same amp at a friend's house (coincidentally the same amp I bought) and I loved how tubes sounded over the modulated amp I had. This amp was fuller, richer, deeper, and had more balls than my old amp but you get what you pay for. I paid $200 for my first amp and $850 for this amp as an upgrade. Though it was over four times as much money as my first amp the sound could not even be compared. One of the best purchases I made in the last 5 years, easily and this amp is going to college with me, though I don't know where it would fit in the dorm! I would recommend to anyone who knows someone with a tube amp to go and play it. This is more a review for tube amps in general, because so many tube amps are so excellent. Just go listen to them!!! close [-]

I've been playing for about 25 years and have had all kinds of amps. The Alchemist is easily one of my all time favorite amps.In fact it's my second favorite coming in 2nd only to my Mesa Triaxis rig.... read more [+]December 5, 2011 Music Background: Musician & Recording Engineer The clean chan is crisp, well rounded full tube tone, and has a great attack. You can even give a nice edge if you want - very punchy. The dirty chan is also amazing. From killer crunch filled with warm overtones that ring nice and clear even when playing open cords - to a very mean full on saturated overdrive this amp has it all. One thing that's important to me on a saturated sound is a fast-razor sharp attack - this amp has that. The built in delay is five star. The reverb is 3.5 star. Gripe 1 of 2: The effects loop sounds great when on the clean chan but when on the distortion chan effects through the loop don't sound as good. They seem a little noisy and muted. So it's hard to have effects set up for both channels. You either have to tailor them to one channel or the other and then settle for how it sounds on your secondary choice. Gripe 2 of 2: The boost switch doesn't boost the volume enough in my opinion. Over all I have never got so much amp for the price. It's worth twice what it costs. This amp is awesome for live and even a great amp for the studio. close [-] Great Multi-Purpose Amp!
by Mitchewr from Davison, MI
This is a great amp. I first played it when it was release (at my local guitar center) and I was blown away. It had amazing sustain, a great clean, and an awesome sound. I just bout the amp back in... read more [+] January, and I am very very pleased with it. It gives me the great clean tone that I want (as long as you have a great clean tone then you will be golden for everything else), the good crunch that I want and a good heavy distortion for harder rock. I like to play a lot of "Creed style" music, although slightly heavier than Creed and this amp does it wonderfully. It is NOT a metal amp, so if that's the sound that you want then don't buy it. It IS however a great blues/rock/heavy rock amp. I can get an awesome blues crunch out of it. The "gold" channel has the crunch switch and it can get pretty gritty. Then you can go to the "mercury" channel and either get your great crunchy overdrive, or your heavy distortion just with the flip of the switch. It's great for praise and worship style music (and I'm talking about the modern style music, not playing hymns or anything) as well. For the built in effects, they are acutally quite nice. I'm usually not a big fan of amp effects b/c they tend to suck. But line 6 & bogner did a nice job with the effects. For a 1 amp does all, you can't beat this amp. The delay and reverb great for what I do and I don't have to cary any extra pedals or rig setups. It's all right in the amp. Now if you really want good effects then check out the Line 6 m13 or m9. I used to own the m13 and while its overdrives/distortions were "ok", the effects (delay, reverb, chorus, etc) were superb. This amp is very responsive to my guitar's volume knob, and the gain will clean up quite nicely when you roll the volume back. The only real complaints I have is a.) I wish this amp had a little more "boomy" low end to the gain channel. If you've ever used say the marshall jackhammer overdrive pedal, then you know what I'm talking about. b.) There is no direct line out jack on this amp, which means that if you want to use it with a PA you HAVE to mic it. And if for whatever reason, micing it isn't working, or not an option, then you're up a creek without a padel. And it ways a ton! Lol, but other than that, I don't have any complaints. Great amp. You won't be dissapointed......IF you're buying it for the right style music. close [-]
May 13, 2011 Music Background: Hobbyist, Church Musician A happy camper
by Jay from Plymouth, MA
I agonized over this purchase for months and now couldn't be happier I pulled the trigger. I read hundreds of reviews, watched YouTube demos, and so on. Two worries I had: 1) it would be too loud. I w... read more [+]as thinking more along the lines of a 15 watt. 2) the complaints by some reviewers about the sound being 'over-processed'. September 8, 2010 Music Background: Been playing for 25 years. Well, I'm getting excellent tone at pretty low volume on either 40 or 20 watts and I couldn't be happier with the tone. Far from being over-processed, it's sweet when you need it, nasty when you want it. The bark of the gain on the mercury channel is absolutely stunning, the distortion when you crank it up is perfect 80s hair band but dial back the volume knob on your axe and it becomes a tasty overdrive (not quite as good as my Blackstone Appliance, but damn close). The effects are actually quite good. Warning if you use the spring delay -- switching channels causes a ruckus. I use plate instead. The ducking delay is great for folks like me who forget to turn it off sometimes. The pedal controller is awesome. It overrides the switches on the front. I have yet to delve into every aspect of this amp and I'm not your classic gear head or tone monster. I just want it to sound good with a minimum of fuss and this baby delivers. Keep in mind this sucker is 70 pounds. Highly recommend this amp. Also wanted to mention that I bought this as a demo. When it arrived it was dead. Called up Sweetwater and they arranged to have the broken one shipped back and another demo sent out (at no cost to me). All I had to do is print the fedex label and take it to the drop off. Gotta love Sweetwater. close [-]
