Killer Cab from Ashdown Hands Down

I picked up an LB30 a while back as my first piece of Ashdown gear. I was running it through a Bergantino HD210 but it felt a bit restricted. Found an amazing deal on a demo 410H and just knew I had to grab it. NO REGRETS. it's louder, hits harder, handles the low B better.
The only things that may or may not be cons are the weight and the horn switch. ITS HEAVY. I don't care and it has wheels to help move it. As for the horn swutch you have 3 choices off, low, or high. Honestly on my or cabs with the rotating knobs that you can dial in plus or minus 6-10db I keep the horn either flat (Low in Ashdowns case) or defeated anyways so not a big deal and makes things a bit more simple. I've been on a big push to simplify my rig and the switch certainly helps that.
I also add extra power to my LB30 by running it through the power amp of my genzler head for 400watts or 800 if I hook up a second cab hooking up both my old 210 and this 410 at 4ohms 800watts resulting in ear to ear grins, paintings off the wall, immediate furniture displaced and the police called on me within 30 minutes.
Looks like the Berg is going into storage and I need to pick between a 210 or 115 to finish this stack.
Thank You Matt S for being my gear dude, ypu rock man!

Love it but...

Hey Ashdown! Casters are those things with wheels that swivel so you can maneuver and park a near 100 pound cabinet. I'm a girl, I can't just lift a bass cabinet with one hand and hike it up onto my shoulder. The little plastic wheels in the back are better than nothing, but come on, dudes, at least give us the option for real casters like on my other large speakers! (David Eden and vintage Fender, for example) There are no plates or shaft sinks to mount any other casters, thus one star taken away. It's just very unwieldy and didn't have to be. It doesn't even sit on the hand cart easily, but that was the only quick solution to moving it. I hate dragging gear (even suitcases) with built-in wheels on concrete, you can almost feel them wearing out as you go up the loading ramp and there's no easy way to replace them. Also, big wheels easily roll right over cords, across diamond plate, etc where smaller ones don't. I'm definitely going to install full-size heavy duty casters before taking it out of the studio.

This unit is absolutely massive, built like a brick house and sounds incredible. I have 3 Ashdown heads each with matching speaker(s) but this cab and my CTM-100 blow them all away. I play 5 string fretless bass and the low B sounds out rich and clear, no flapping or wheezing from lesser speakers not being able to cover 31 hz. The ABM 410 does, it's rated down to 30 but lower than that still sounded good. Even the matching Ashdown 15" doesn't reproduce the lowest lows like this guy. The heavier and denser wood makes a difference, and the blue range drivers are the best yet. With bass, it's all about articulation and at very low frequencies that's never a given. With this cab it is, you can relax knowing your speaker can handle anything you throw at it. And I mean anything! We have a Moog Subsequent 37 with bass pedals to extend its range below the keyboard, it even handled that.

It broke my heart to deduct a star, but this box is needlessly cumbersome at its size and weight and has no fittings for heavy duty casters which would have been greatly appreciated even if it didn't come with the wheels themselves. It's also made in China, which for the price was disappointing, especially since the "matching" head was made in England as were all my other Ashdown products including the speakers. That and the lack of maneuverability forced me to give 4 instead of 5, which otherwise I would have.

It's a Beast

I love this cab! I own the ABM 600, and the two of them together create a roaring machine. It sounds modern without sounding metallic. It breathes like a vintage cab. Between the port and the build of the cab it pushes air. It is crisp even without the horn on. This is a great bass cabinet. It's a little heavy. Handle and wheels are well designed. This thing is a beast!

ABM 410H now with front porting

I already had two rear-ported ABM 410H when they changed to a front port ("slot" or "shelf" ). The new design is better with a little less boom and more twang.
