In signal flow terms, we have “signal path,” which describes how audio or other signal is routed from its source to its final destination – what processors it goes through, and so on. In computer terms, “path” describes the location of a file within a nested series of directories and folders, with the steps in the path separated by slashes. So,

Macintosh HD/Documentation/Tutorial.pdf

describes the location of a PDF file titled “Tutorial.pdf,” which is found on the hard drive named “Macintosh HD,” inside the “Documentation” folder. (This is a very simple example; file paths can become quite long if many folders are nested inside one another.)
