A Rich Heritage of Unmatched Quality
It was 1875 when Johannes Link used his wood turning and tanning skills to start a small woodshop in Weißenfels, East Germany, where he made simple military drums and drumheads. The operation started modestly but developed into a booming business. By the 1900s, he offered a large range of percussion instruments.
Today’s production processes incorporate modern technologies, but the classic Sonor sound is still intact. The secret is in attention to even the smallest details and being committed to always making the highest-quality drums, just like the founder believed.
Leading by Example
Sonor, under the leadership of Horst Link in the 1980s, developed some of the most advanced and innovative products the industry had ever seen. During that time, the 35-pound HLD 590 Cast Bronze Snare drum was released. The original Horst Link design was rumored to be over 100 pounds, but there wasn’t a snare stand that could support it. This snare drum is still one of the most sought-after drums on the vintage market.
144 Years of Innovation
Sonor’s innovative and groundbreaking developments didn’t happen only in the past, as they are still ongoing today. Sonor has built a reputation for unique products and features that lead the industry. From the first double pedal in the 1920s to the Acoustigate adjustable resonance knob on SQ² toms to the SQ1 Sound Sustainer, the history of innovation continues.
