Godin xtSA Koa Extreme HG Electric Guitar - Natural Reviews
The Godin xtSA Koa Extreme HG augments the classic electric guitar design with a creatively powerful range of tones. A pair of Godin Custom humbuckers with a single-coil pickup between them ensures this guitar can handle an incredible range of electric tones, from traditional blues and country to modern high-gain rock and metal. But factor in an onboard piezo pickup that lets you blend in acoustic-style sounds with electric tones — or output them separately — and the xtSA Koa Extreme HG is prepared for anything. And that’s even before tapping into the onboard 13-pin hexaphonic output, which allows you to connect to Roland GR series* sound modules to access winds, percussion, and synth sounds in a live or studio setting. In addition to its dizzying sonic capabilities, the xtSA Koa Extreme HG possesses sharp visuals to boot. And once you wrap your hands around its 25.5-inch scale D-profile mahogany neck and catch sight of its fiery koa veneer top perched in front of your stage gear, the Godin xtSA Koa Extreme HG from Sweetwater is one guitar you won’t want to lose track of.

Nice Versatile Guitar MIDI controller
I bought this guitar to provide another type of device to drive my other MIDI devices. In this respect it is an excellent controller. The strings are down low like most guitar players expect. The guitar cords exit from the rear bottom which is nice so you can get them out of the way and as I do you can route them behind your strap so they don't accidentally come unplugged. The guitar strap uses a strap-lok but you have to supply the strap side of the strap-lok so expect to buy that if it is not on the strap you will be using. The Koa top is very nice. The pick-ups sound okay but I suspect some of you will be not impressed.
I see in most of these reviews tracking is mentioned. I think that is not an issue because the tracking of this guitar is really dependent on the device to which it is connected and that is the delay you will perceive. The guitar probation delay is very small in comparison. Overall the MIDI is excellent.
The neck appears to be excellent but doesn't feel like ebony because it is not. I prefer ebony or rosewood but this will do. This neck is very smooth that some will like and maybe use it exclusively but as a MIDI controller it is plenty good IMHO. Intonation is appears to be very good.
Overall I like this guitar and give it a higher rating over other MIDI guitars I have used.
Awesome guitar but didn't work for me
I purchased this guitar thinking I would have an all in one for gigs however, in my case it didn't work out. First let me say that craftsmanship on this is awesome and it played like a dream the problem I had was it did not work with my Roland GR20, it seems that the GR20 is an older unit and Godin suggested in order for it to work I should use the GR55 or the Boss Y1000.
My GR20 is a good working unit so sad to say I had to return the guitar, I just didn't want to invest more money, plus I'm used to my GR20 and didn't want to reprogram or replace what was already working.
Let me say that my sales engineer Alex Jasiak and the support tech Carlos Intriago from Sweetwater were great. when I first called to report the synth was not working right Carlos immediately sent me a replacement thinking there may be an internal issue. Once Godin informed me that it wouldn't work with my unit, Alex called me right away and got the ball rolling for the return. These guys are excellent to work with and know how to treat their customers. Sweetwater is the best place to get your gear and Alex is one of the best sales engineers I have worked with.
Bottom line,,,,,, I'm looking and more guitars........... hahaha
I bought this guitar more than five years ago?
Excellent and flawless build quality. Easily on par with my PRS McCarty 594. The pickups can sound muddy compared to other guitars (easily fixed with eq). The nine pin midi plug and mini switches are useless. Technology has advanced to the point that you can get the same tracking from a standard pickup. You do not need the $ plus dollar Roland pedal to get these sounds. Check out the H9 max. I have one and it's phenomenal.
I love this guitar. It plays excellent. The fit and finish is superb. The piezo pickup and eq sliders create a good acoustic simulation naturally.
If Godin would delete the mini switches and nine pin plug this would be a five star guitar.
I have only used this guitar live a handful of times.
