From Our Research Team:

Exceptional Sound Quality from Grace

The Grace m801 is proof that trends may come and go, but pristine sound is always in style. The m801 by Grace Design is an 8-channel studio microphone preamp designed for audio professionals in the music recording, film scoring, live sound, and fixed installation markets. As the successor to our world renowned model 801, the m801 represents a new standard in capabilities and performance for multi-channel mic preamps.

Grace m801 At a Glance:
  • Improved design while maintaining classic Grace sound
  • 8 Mic inputs with 16 XLR out
  • Dedicated ribbon mic switch

Improved design while maintaining classic Grace sound
The m801 preamp is comprised of two components; the 2U, 19" rack mount 8-channel preamp and an external 1U, half width linear power supply. The m801 enclosure shares the same industrial design (look and feel) as their monitoring products and the m802 8-channel, remote controlled preamp. While they've made some changes (fully balanced signal path and improvements in output current) that improve the dynamic range of the m801, the sound has not been altered. The sonic performance and characteristics Grace customers have come to expect from Grace Design mic preamps is something they're careful not to mess with.

8 Mic inputs with 16 XLR out
The m801 includes 8 balanced mic level inputs on female XLR connectors, 8 balanced line level outputs on male XLR connectors and an additional 8 balanced line level outputs male XLR connectors. Both sets of analog outputs (16 outputs) can be used simultaneously. The signal path of the m801 is fully balanced from start to finish which provides a dynamic range improvement of up to 3dB over that of the model 801. With its increased output current capability the m801 can drive audio lines that can reach upward of 1,500 feet without audio quality loss.

Dedicated ribbon mic switch
Included on each preamp channel is a dedicated ribbon microphone switch, which shifts the preamplifier's entire gain range up 10dB while deactivating 48V phantom power and bypassing the coupling capacitors. This gives you the proper signal strength to maximize the ribbon mic, yet the automatic disabling of phantom power ensures that you won't accidentally fry your mic.

Grace m801 Features:
  • Pristine, audiophile-quality sound
  • 8 XLR inputs
  • 16 XLR outputs
  • Improved dynamic range
  • Dedicated ribbon mic switch
  • Drive audio lines upward of 1,500 feet without audio quality loss

The Grace 801 has got it all! It's 8 channels of totally transparent gain are a go-to for any source. Every channel has a pad, phantom power, phase reverse, and ribbon. The Ribbon switch is great, shi... read more [+]fting the gain up 10db and disabling the phantom power. It's built like a Sherman tank and it adds some class to the look of your rack. My remote rig consists of an Apogee Rosetta 800 and Grace 801 and I couldn't be happier. If you've got the bread, lay it out on this 8ch pre. close [-]
