Boss WL-20L Guitar Wireless System Reviews

Plug-and-play Guitar Wireless System with 50' Operating Range and USB Charging

Going cable free doesn't get any easier than the BOSS WL-20L. This wireless system eschews complicated setups in favor of a simple plug-and-play design. Experience ultra-low latency and expansive dynamics while enjoying rock-solid stability and a 50-foot operating range. And charging the components of the system is as easy as plugging into a standard USB adapter. Get a BOSS WL-20, and say goodbye to your cable management woes. The WL-20L is functionally identical to the WL-20, but doesn't offer cable tone simulation, making it a great choice for acoustic-electric guitars, active pickups, keytars, or other instruments where capacitance doesn't tend to impact tone.

Nothing but Awesomeness!

By Sweetwater Customer on April 24, 2024

My first wireless system and mainly wanted to get this to play wireless at an upcoming school talent show. I tested it by playing in different parts of my house and I didn't notice any delay from my guitar to amp. It feels unreal with the fact that I'm playing without a cord, but it's so awesome!

Excellent!

By Edward Martins from Union, OR on March 13, 2024 Music Background: Both kinds, Country AND Western... (and Praise on Sundays)

I don't run a pedal board with my acoustic so I wanted to plug directly into my Fender Acoustic Junior amp or a DI box. This seemed like the most "pro" non pedal board style wireless system. Sunday I played 3 hours at Church and had a 4 hour rehearsal for my band after that. Battery life was great! The thing just works with no drama or issues. The key to wireless is trusting it and so far this unit has been great.

Spot On

By Daniel Curtis on May 16, 2023

I've been a Boss fan sense 1985 or 1986 when I got my first Boss pedal. (Super Distortion Feedbacker) Many pedals and processers later, I've gone with Boss wireless for my bass guitars also. For me this is my go to. I will say that if your output jack is on the front of your guitar, you may want to go with another option. All my basses have side output jacks. Other than that, I'm very happy with the 3 sets of these I have now. Coming up on 2 years on 2 of them and they are still going strong. I play on each set 2 or 3 times a week. So to sum it up, I would say that if your wanting to get that cable out from under your feet and have a side jack on your bass guitar, that has active electronics, or any guitar that has active electronics, this may be the wireless system for you. I highly recommend you check it out. D.

Easy

By Tim from So Cal on February 9, 2023 Music Background: Recording / gigging

Bought this to replace my aging UHF system. Have used it for rehearsals & a couple of gigs. Also using wireless mics, IEM's, & DMX. So far, no problems, no dropouts, no interference with the other wireless rigs.

Good Choice!

By Jim B. from Gulf Shores, ALABAMA on January 23, 2023 Music Background: Gigging musician for 30 years

I chose this wireless system because it will work with active pickups. I have a Taylor 415-CE, National Resophonic Duolian and Fender Strat. It works with all of them

boss wireless

Battery life is exceptional for the price. Range and reception are outstanding for the price.

Does the trick.

By Jim Furlough from Ellicott City, MD on October 18, 2022

I bought these on a whim for my return to gigging and am very pleased with using them around the studio. I'll update the review when I spend some time on stage using the product. I wish I had jumped sooner. Not having to deal with dragging a cord around or being physically tied to the interface is a nice touch and one less thing to worry about. No noise. Long lasting charge. Low signal latency. I am pleased and without complaint.

Boss WL20L

By Mack Golden from SW Louisiana on September 29, 2022 Music Background: Retired educator and now professional

Works with Martin Guitar active pick up and Bose S1 Pro. Purchased a XVive U2 and it would not work with my rig. So I researched and the Boss WL-20L does work. The one issue is that it sticks out the end of the guitar not allowing to put guitar on some stands. So, I am using a right angle 1/4" adapter or a 1' extension cord with right angle and attaching transmitter to my strap.

Boss is really boss

I plugged the WL-20L into my Ovation acoustic and it worked flawlessly for two three and a half hour sessions back to back. Great product.

Easy and Reliable Wireless System

By Felix from South Florida on July 1, 2022 Music Background: Professional

I've been using the BOSS WL-20L system for a little over three years. I mainly use it with the Line 6 HELIX. These are a nice, compact and reliable wireless system that fits in the HELIX backpack pocket.

I play mainly at church every Sunday and some nights at bar gigs and parties. When I can bring my Amp and pedalboard, I use a Shure GLXD16. But when I need to bring the HELIX, I use the WL-20L. Honestly, I don't hear a major difference in sound and signal quite between the two systems. Overall the BOSS WL-20L is a fantastic wireless solution for guitar.

Great product!! The Boss WL 20L wireless system is the only way to go. No more stepping on out tripping over your guitar wire. The battery life before needing a charger is incredible!!!

Time to cut the cord.

By G Jones from Churubusco, IN on May 8, 2021

Probably my most favorite purchase. Charge time is minimal. Battery life is fantastic. No change in tone. Set up is easy. My stage is clean. Less obstacles for me to step on. Sure it's expensive. But it's worth every penny.

Wireless Ax Edge Keytar and WL-20L wireless system A+

By Ruben A. Rodriguez from Oakland California on November 14, 2020 Music Background: Former live audio engineer/ musician

The WL-20L is the first wireless unit I have used for my own needs. As a former live audio engineer I have used just about every wireless system made. The drawback to wireless has always been somebody "stepping" on your signal or having the signal "drop out".

Reading through the reviews for this product.....the complaints seem to be the same ....interruptions and loss of signal due to microwave units, wireless routers or bluetooth devices. Well, I have all of those devices and more in my small apartment and I have not experienced any problems with the WL-20L. I plug into both my Roland Ax Edge keytar and my Yamaha Sonogenic keytar and the receiver into my Soundcraft series 16 mixing console and I can play for hours on end with a clean, crisp and strong signal.

BOSS / Roland makes high quality audio products and have an excellent reputation in the live sound industry. This product is easy to charge via USB, it is easy to pair (takes 5-10 seconds) and it is reliable... even with other wireless signals in the same room. Buy it and try it and you will be glad you did. I am.

Great wireless setup!

By Chris from Texas on July 27, 2020 Music Background: Music Ministry

I got this setup for my Taylor and it works perfect...I can walk all throughout our church sanctuary and not lose signal, and there's no delay or anything. This was a great buy!

WL-20L initial impressions

By Art from Kansas on April 27, 2020 Music Background: Former local band member (doing various covers), actively involved with Church Worship team.

I purchased this product based on a recommendation from Sweetwater (via chat). While I have not "gigged" this product, I tested it in my house, and I am pumped to start using it! I tried three different instruments representing the following types of pickups: humbuckers, K & K Sound piezo passive pickups, and an acoustic guitar with active electronics. All instruments exhibited great sound reproduction. I have not tested the range extensively, but have walked away from my amp at least 20 feet...with no drop-outs or other quirky behaviors; very encouraging. Time will tell when I have the first gig...especially when there will be more wireless devices to potentially interfere. Up to now, I am impressed with the WL-20L and am excited to ditch the cord/leash.

I have a studio where myself (drummer) and as many as 10 other musicians may gather in a 16'x 32' area to play music...We have ALOT of equipment in that small space....My SWEETWATER sales Engineer Clint Bransteter had suggested we go wireless n our 3 guitars...We were aprehensive at first as we have other wireless items working and were concerned with reliability with the wireless guitar pickups...Clint assured us that things should be ok.
I bought one Boss WL-20L and it worked perfectly...Then i purchased two more and everything was fine eventhough we had two blutooth items,3 wireless mics and wireless computer mouse ect ect.
Thank you Sweetwater sales engineer Clint Bransteter for all of your technical help.

One of the best purchases ever.

Best plug and play guitar wireless system from Boss

By Sweetwater Customer on October 1, 2019 Music Background: electric/acoustic guitar player

Finally decided to buy this wireless guitar gear after hesitating and doing a lot of research. It worked with my system so well playing with the band that I decided to buy another set for my son who plays acoustic guitar. He too loved it! So easy to set up. Just connect the transmitter and receiver together until the LED's stop blinking and you're set to play. Very happy about the product. Thank you!

Perfect.

By Sweetwater Customer on September 19, 2019 Music Background: Pro

Been using this WL-50 out live several times every week for over a year, various venues, small to large. Works exactly as advertised. I easily get 35 ft line-of-sight uninterrupted, solid connections every time, with no detectable tone loss. Never, ever had a problem, not even in extremely wireless-chatty environments. Transmitter seats solidly in the guitar jack. Charge reliably lasts through a 5 hour gig, and more. Receiver sits nicely in my pedalboard, and can recharge the transmitter on breaks, if needed.

I'll be using this device until the rechargeable transmitter battery wears out, at which point I'll pick up a replacement WL-T.

Excellent system, very happy.

My best wireless guitar system!

I"ve been playing for years with many different wireless guitar systems, and my sales Engineer warned me that this may not work with my Yamaha Silent Guitar: not only it does, but the latency is second to nothing, and the fidelity is outstanding! I"m a happy customer, BOSS never disappointed me, neither did Sweetwater! Thanks guys!

Quick and easy

By Patrick Taylor on July 1, 2019

Setup is a breeze and now I don"t have to deal with a cord cluttering up my workspace.

Love it, so I had to buy 2!

By Aaron Lucero from Olathe on May 14, 2019 Music Background: Local Player

Works great and seems to last a little over 10 hrs on a charge. I have the receiver hooked to the back of a voicelive3 and had some dropouts if I moved to far back. I bout a $3 L shaped adapter and now 0 drop outs for 30ft back and 50 ft in front. No noticeable lag until you get out about 30ft which is no big deal for me. Works fine on Taylors and Martins, but Yamahas dont seem to like it. For the price it can not be beat.

Works good

By Sean from SF Bay Area on May 3, 2019 Music Background: Intermediate

I have only used this for practicing at home. It seems like it works perfectly. No issues. No noticeable latency. And now no cords to trip over, which is great. I recommend it. Matt Zuleger at Sweetwater was helpful when I was deciding which wireless guitar system to purchase, he gave me a thorough response to my email questions.

What took me so long???

By Laura C. from Upstate, NY on April 29, 2019 Music Background: Full-time musician/entertainer

With increasing pain due to ergonomic issues, I finally relented and looked for wireless systems. I didn't want a body pack, because I was going to have to wear one for a wireless mic. This system fits my needs perfectly.

Small, compact, reliable. Easy to pair, charge, and use. Also, it's nice having something reasonably priced that actually works!

Plus the obvious benefits of being able to a) go out front for sound checks and actually hear what is happening and b) work the crowd when I want to.

So far the 50' range is not an issue for my applications.

This works!

By Tom from Oceanside, CA on April 8, 2019

Stumbled over this system while perusing Sweetwater. Looked really simple and compact. Was getting tired of stepping on my guitar cord. So I bought it. I"ve used it at 4 gigs so far. Has worked perfectly every time. Sound is great. Battery lasts a long time. I love simple things that work. This system works!

Wireless guitar system that really works!

By David H Bailey from New Hampshire, USA on March 2, 2019 Music Background: Professional trumpeter, conductor and private lesson teacher on brass, woodwinds, guitar, bass, drums

This Boss WL-20L guitar wireless system works very well -- clean sound, no noticeable latency (the documentation says 2.3ms -- way too short for most people to notice). Charging was easy -- just plug the transmitter into the receiver and attach a micro-USB cable and both units charge at the same time. Or you can charge each one individually. I haven't used it long enough yet to know the time capabilities of the two units, but the documentation says 10 hours continuous use for the receiver and 12 hours continuous use for the transmitter, so a lot longer than most gigs would require. Faithful tone reproduction with no coloring of the sound.

It works!

By Jeff from Vermont on February 18, 2019 Music Background: Church musician

I have only used it a couple of times, but so far it works as well as a cord. Be sure to charge it fully. When first received, I tried it before charging and it kept "skipping". The blue light blinked when it skipped. The directions do not describe what the blue light does. As long as the blue light is steady, so is the sound. One small issue is when I put the guitar on my folding stand, the module contacts the floor unless I turn it around.

Great Unit

By jsberck from Beacon, NY on January 30, 2019 Music Background: long-time amateur

Works as advertised. I use it with my passive electric guitars and have the receiver as the first element in my pedal board. If there's any latency I can't hear it, or any difference in tone either. Very happy with my purchase. The Sweetwater tech, by the way, steered me to this in place of the original (cheaper) Xvive unit I was going to buy; glad he did!

BossWL-20L

By Rangerman from Walton, NY on December 21, 2018 Music Background: Over 50 years semi-pro

I see from the online catalogue that there are other less expensive wireless-plug-and-go guitar systems on the market than this Boss System (WL-20L) and since I had to "pre-order" the Boss "unit" it took awhile to get to me, but I have several other reliable Boss/Roland items which made me decide to go with a familiar brand. I tested this unit shortly after it arrived just to see how it worked, but didn't get to really put it through its paces. Last night, I used it on a gig and was very pleased with the simplicity of set-up and the versatility it offered me. Along with my wireless Samson mic, I was able to move among my audience while singing and playing Christmas music. Best of all....NO #$%^&@#$@%^&# WIRES!! This benefit is especially meaningful to me, because I have a genetic affliction which I inherited from my father - if either of us were to go anywhere near wires, strings, cords, coat hangers, etc. they immediately become tangled and in many cases included parts of our bodies in the tangling. Therefore, this simple-to-use wireless system is such a blessing that it brings tears of joy! I had no dropouts, the sound was natural and "un-electric" (I play acoustic guitar) and could be heard easily without any harshness to the sound, no matter where I stood. If you want something easy to use and hate wires even half as much as I do, get one of these and you will be pleased if not as joyful as I am!

Best reasonably priced wireless (so far)

By Harold Runyan from Eastern KY on June 15, 2022 Music Background: Mostly church praise team and a Contemporary Christian cover band.

I play bass & I've had to replace every barrel style jack on every bass that featured them due to someone (usually but not always me) stepping on cords. Since changing to wireless my jacks have not required any attention. I had a Line 6 G10 system that worked pretty well for a couple of years. Seems like I once I started updating the firmware it went south fast, became unreliable, and subsequently unusable. Enter the Boss system! This system is more compact and works well for me. No noticeable lag, no noticeable loss of tone, good range, and holds a charge well. I've only had it for a few weeks so I can't speak to longevity but it seems well made and durable enough, even for us bassists! So far I recommend this gear highly!

Boss is the boss!

By Michael from Camano Island, WA on February 19, 2022 Music Background: 50+ yrs Strings, Keys, Horns

The Boss WL-20L is a plug and play wireless system designed for active pickups and has taken my Taylor acoustic /electric to another level of freedom. After the initial charge it was plug and play right off. No latency noticed and the tone and clarity from the amp was if it were cabled. Literally, dock the units, wait 10 seconds, plug and play. The option to be able to move into the audience area and really get an appreciation for the sound is awesome. No more guessing, "how does it sound"? Perfect to dial in boards and pedals. My only reason for the 4.5 rating is that if Boss provided a protective plastic case for the units, it would be a SOLID 5 stars. I will mention that after a bad ride with a Sweetwater competitor, Jonathan at Sweetwater hooked me up and delivered. Sweetwater has my loyalty and all future musical needs. Great product, great job (Jonathan) Sweetwater!

Easiest to use Wireless

By The Preacher Man from Bonne Terre, Mo. on December 11, 2020

Over the years, I have owned MANY Guitar wireless units! From expensive..to cheap. This one from Boss is the easiest one to use by far! No scanning buttons....stick em together and charge! The only complaint is the connector on the unit...its that little bitty "phone" type insert. I've had 2 other wireless units with that kind of connection "quit connecting". I hope that this boss unit is made better...so far..so good! Great sound and distance.

Does what I need it to

By Charles from NJ on June 27, 2019 Music Background: 24 years in a gigging band

I play in a punk hardcore band so we are always jumping around and our singer loves to figure 8 the stage and I also jump around so we are ALWAYS having to fish ourselves out of a wirey mess between songs. Our bassist got tired of it and grabbed a wireless (Xvive) and had newfound freedom, then I pulled the trigger with this set and I LOVE IT. I use this with an EMG active pickup guitar and a passive guitar. the WL-20L was recommended by Sweetwater for my active guitar and didn't have any noticeable difference in tone with my passive guitar. I still feel the need to grab the non existing cable when I move but that's just habit formed over the years. I tested out in a studio environment with live setup so I can see if attaching this to the back of my rack system would cause interference issues. I'm sure this cut down on range but is more than sufficient for the types of stages I play. Our sets are 45 max, our songs are never over 3 minutes long so I'm not worried about battery life. I gave it 4.5 stars because of the way it sticks out of the guitar(other brands fold against the guitar) Its an accident waiting to happen with the type of craziness we endure but anyone who just stands in one spot or doesn't have move around much wont even notice. I chose Boss over the others mostly due to the brand. I've never had issues with any Boss product. Build quality is A+. Does not look/feel cheap like other small economic wireless sets.

Charging Issues

By Chris from Missouri on December 29, 2023 Music Background: Cover band

I'm sure it's my error, but I haven't had a full charge yet. Operates well. Does everything it says it does but only two hours playing time. Will keep working with it.

No more tripping on my guitar cord

By Lindsey Ashley from Plant City, FL on December 1, 2022 Music Background: Been playing for 50 years or so, doing home recording for about 49 years.. started with a 4 track reel to reel before switching to DAWs.

I use this in my studio and have found it to be so much easier to change signal paths vs a cord. My only complaint is that there is no way to know when the battery is going to die. So if playing out, you might be in the middle of a song.... I'm not that religious with charging it so this may not really be an issue.

Does The Job

By Mel B. from Buffalo N.Y. on October 12, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

I've been an Xvive user since their beginning. However I wanted to go wireless with battery equipped guitars. The Boss WL-20L works beautifully with acoustic & piezo equipped electrics. Super clean...However when the receiver is within several inches of another WL-20L or my Xvive's, dropouts occur which render it useless in that location. It appears that a minimum of 1 foot or more needs to be kept between the receiver & other units. This may be particular to my setup, using multiple wireless units. Still, works as advertised.

easy peasy

By Tony and the Tuff Times from Modesto CA on May 21, 2019 Music Background: Front man, harmonica player

Wireless should mean Wireless!!! So sick of all the wires, plugs, power, cables, looking for a location for the receiver, etc.....Just to be wireless. The Boss WL-20L is Wireless. So far 2 gigs and a couple of rehearsals and it just Works. Plug and play, that is the way. Yaaaay! no more darn wires! I play harmonica and just plug the transmitter into my hi impedance mic, plug the rec. into the amp or pa/mixer and I am ready. So simple it leaves you scratching your head because you know you have forgotten something for sure.

Really good BUT ......

By Howzilla from Kansas City on February 4, 2019 Music Background: Mad man

I really like these. They have a reasonable battery life and they do not cut out BUT I hate having to plug them into USB to charge them. These would have been so much nicer if they had a charging/docking station to set them. Regardless I do recommend them. I have a cheaper set from another vendor and they cut out.

AT it's price, you would expect it to work!

By Raymond Vanlanot from Indianapolis, IN on December 11, 2021 Music Background: Past semi - professional, now, Professional but not relying on it to pay the bills!

I have now having to send in the replacement of the first unit I bought back in March of this year!
Being a BOSS item, you would expect it to be great. Turns out that the first thing to go is the ability to be reliable. So far, that hasn't been the case. I am toying with the idea of giving them another try?
Second thing you would expect is that it would be able to send/receive a singnal...well two for two, it's happening again.
3rd, charging circuits must be bad, so the suggested way, Plug the transmitter into the receiver and your minny D into the receiver, and you can be all grins! No again.
If it were not for the great service that I'm given by Mike Winebrenner, I would have given it 0 stars. I don't know if it is worth to buy the Boss stuff because it used to be made in the USA, and it Used to be great, Now I am having issues when going to BOSS. The reason I purchased this unit was it was the only remote offered by Sweetwater for active pickups. Period, Active circuit friendly. USER-not so friendly. So I am working with Mike Winebrenner again and hoping for happier results. 205.00 for this, not even used professionally, and not thrown around. USER - Not so happy as this happened twice in less than 9 months.

Follow Up: Not Working With My Electric Guitars with Batteries

By Mel B. from Buffalo N.Y. on December 30, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

The WL-20L will work with Battery Preamp Electric Guitars if you can keep the 1/4" Input flush in the jack. This isn't the case for a Gibson LP with Boost Circuit, PRS Private Stock Hollowbody II, P24 & Santana PS with Piezo. Squealing from most, popping sound from Hollowbody. What I believe is the cause is the Boss body not allowing the ground to make a complete connection. There was a You Tube video where the Input Jack Plate was shimmed to stick out farther. This allowed for a good fit. Otherwise they work in all the guitars I tried without Battery Circuits as well as Send/Returns to amps etc.
They sound good when working, nice & clean. So, you may wish to buy the less expensive version or the Xvive depending on your circumstances.

Good But Drops Out

By Blano from New Hampshire on April 4, 2019 Music Background: Bassist

Like one other writer, I had high hopes for this unit. It worked very well at home so I decided to take it to a gig - within 10 minutes it started dropping out. I was never more than 7 feet from the receiver. Thinking there might be a router or something nearby I took it to a second gig for another go with the same results. I"ve relegated this piece of kit to the house for practicing - no more gigs.

Very good but...

By Alain H. on February 10, 2019

Like many wireless systems, this one uses the overcrowded 2.4 MHz radio frequency band. And even though the device will try to select the best and clearer channel, it can occasionally cut out if there is a microwave oven, or other 2.4 MHz device like a Wi-Fi router, Bluetooth device, or even another Boss WL-20L Guitar Wireless System operating nearby. Be aware of that.
The manual states that clearly.
This is a good product, but certainly not as infallible as a $3K professional wireless systems (like the Shure AD4DUS for example) the pros use on shows.

This could have been sooo good..

By william farrell from New Richmond, OH on October 10, 2023 Music Background: 35 years of performing, writing and recording.

The idea of it is incredible, the size and portability and convenience, also incredible but honestly, it just does not work well in a wireless rich environment. I had intended to use it in my fast in, fast out, Line 6 Helix floor rig but In both instances where I used it, it just did not play well with the other two wireless guitar units, in ear systems and wireless microphones on stage and cut out as soon as I got more than 5 feet from my board.
I was forced to return it. Thank goodness for Sweetwaters easy return policy.

Boss WL-20L

By William Cosson from Corning, CA on August 3, 2023

Pros: Sound was great. It was easy to operate. I loved being freed from stepping on guitar cables often.

Cons: After a year and 5 months, the transmitter conked out. It worked perfect in sound check and rehearsal, then when I picked up my guitar 45 minutes later to start playing, the WL-20L was totally dead. Took it home, made sure it was fully charged, but no lights or power.

Rather disappointing, considering the price. I was hoping to get several years out of it. Time to try something else.

Boss WL20L. OK, but not what I hoped.

By Shane R. on February 21, 2019

Each and every time I use this with my bass I get occasional interruptions to the connections and pops from my amp. I generally don't write reviews and I want to say this thing is the best but it's not. I also have a Line 6 G10 and for me it simply works better and does not lose it signal. I love the convenience of the Boss WL20 set-up vs. the Line 6 but I wouldn't buy another one. I'll try something else.

Works well, when it works...

By Ellis E Miller from Cortez, CO on September 19, 2023

Interference is a concern. If you go through the interference mitigation process at the beginning of the set and the wireless environment changes before your guitar solo, you are screwed. In downtown or populated areas, hotel/casino situations or any place where there is heavy wireless usage, this unit is unreliable. I expect more from Boss, especially at this price point.

I bought this and it worked for a while, then wouldn't hold a charge, returned it, got another one, now it go goes dead in the middle of a 3 hour show. I was gonna return it but i see it might be out of warranty, if it had a 2 year warranty, im sending it back for credit to upgrade to something better.

Interference is a BIG problem

By chad dodson from Rutland, OH on October 26, 2022

First the PRO's…

1. Doesn't color my guitar sound in a weird way. Love the sound.
2. Connection is SUPER simple.
3. Connection is rock solid.
4. Battery life is great.

Now, for the one big negative…

The interference this thing gets from other signal sources is crazy. My church bought one of these and we couldn't use it in that environment because we relentlessly received some kind of interference. We made sure all the other wireless sources in the room were on before we went through the connection process on the Boss device. We even re-did it several times but the interference was still pretty severe. We turned every cell phone within 20 feet either off or onto airplane mode. The interference persisted. We tried using the unit during our church services but the interference on the Boss was so noticeable that several people from the congregation asked us what the noise was. I just figured we were in an overly complex wireless environment (which we were) that this unit wasn't really designed to function in and I chalked it up to that.

Then, I took the unit home to try in my solo rig where literally nothing complex is happening. The interference was still there. I put my cell phone at least 10 feet away and I would still receive the occasional interference noise. It is MUCH less often than the interference I experience at church but it is still there.

I'll be returning this product and getting something different.

Disappointing

By Rebel Rocker on October 14, 2021 Music Background: 50 years of playing

Was looking forward to using this, worked great first gig. Now it cuts in and out like a bad guitar cable. From 4' away. Going back to my Shure GLXD16. Would have really like the convenience of the Boss

Not reliable

By Pete from Virginia beach on March 20, 2021

Compared to my G10, the BOSS WL20L had a much shakier connection.
Having a power cable free receiver is superior to to any system that does IMO, but consistent connectivity is the most important factor for a wireless guitar system.
Sitting in one place was fine but just walking a few feet away would cause break ups.
I would also get drop outs often enough to know I wouldn't trust it for performing.

Not impressed

By Jack from Milwaukee on January 13, 2021

I got this wireless rig when I purchased my Katana Mk2. (Fighting those quarantine blues)
The first few months they worked pretty good, I could walk away 10/20 feet and have no signal loss/drop outs
But lately it's a constant battle and I'm sick of losing
I plan to ask for a refund
...constant issues ??
No thanks

Good sound but ...

It's better tone sounding as compare with my other wireless system. But the reciever unit stop working and won't charge. So now it's a useless wireless system.

Boss WL-20L -- Nice when it works

By LanceSLC from SLC, UT on December 28, 2019

Like another reviewer said, I really wanted to love this! The ease of set-up and use are the best. But the first time I used it at a gig, it started cutting out almost immediately, even though I was within 10 feet of the receiver. I have tried it several times at home and get the same problem, even when closer than the 10 ft.

I'm so disappointed this is so unreliable. It is basically worthless when it cannot be used effectively.

Not What I Expected

By Sweetwater Customer on September 4, 2019

I"ve had one of these units since last Christmas. I tried it out at home and the rehearsal space and it worked well. I took it to a gig and although the transmitter and receiver units were no more than 6 feet away from one another I started getting dropout in the middle of the first song. I switched to a cable and finished the gig without further incident. The entire scenario repeated a week later at another gig, so I retired this unit to my own studio. Fast forward 7 months, now I"m getting drop out in my studio where there is about 2 feet between the dongle units. This is the first Boss kit that I"ve ever had problems with, and I know other guys that use this with good results. I would not purchase this again.

From Boss to me with a vengeance.

I love BOSS equipment, but I don't like this wireless system> Since the time I first bought it, I have had at least three trade ins on it mainly because the receiver seems to not want to charge. I figure it is in the (in use button) or some small crack in a very important part within that does not allow it to charge. After my last unit, which I was able to send back yesterday to Sweetwater, I am totally away from it. It did have a simple design, easy to plug in, easy to charge, and clear signal. It only had one band of signal and it constantly made me go to the reliability of a plain old guitar cord. I bought it so I wouldn't trip over cords, walk over cords, or need that ancient way to plug into and play! They don't come with an ability to change batteries, and it's just really not worth the price. Not in any way! It was more of a nuisance to Sweetwater's sales engineer and me. Finally, I will seek it in a SHURE system. I'll review that later. I pray that I get more than a couple of weeks out of the new one. It's cost is unbearable for the troubles it cost and the delay in working during a song or two then vanishing. Again, the lack of set up was great, but it doesn't work long. At least for me. Good Luck if you buy one!

Doesn't last long

By Jay Saul from Tucson, AZ on October 19, 2021

Doesn't work with any battery boosted guitar output. Order Placed: 2018-09-15 Used moderately, now dead with no way to replace battery.

Great until it died

I was happy with this till it stopped working 5 months later.

May not hold a charge

By Randall U on February 24, 2023

It was great when it worked for about a year and a half. After that the receiver wouldn't hold a charge anymore and the batteries are not replaceable. It's a pretty expensive piece of gear to get only a year and a half of use out of them.

Problematic at best

I bought one of these when my Line6 G10 system bit the dust. It works fine for practice and sounds good but, (you knew that was coming) I cannot trust it for live performances. Fully charged and properly coupled, it loses connection even when you're within a few feet if there is not a direct nine of sight between the transmitter and receiver. You can literally block the signal by turning your back to your receiver from 2 or 3 feet away. We bought one for church at about the same time and it isn't any better. Great quick shipment from Sweetwater as per usual but the product is worthless to me for anything but practice where I can control the line of sight between the transmitter and receiver. Just beware!

I wanted to love it.

By Jay from Seattle, WA on May 1, 2019

I really wanted to love this thing, but it has let me down so many times. It cuts out on me fairly regularly, even in the middle of gigs when I don't move more than 15-20 feet from the receiver... so I definitely can't say it's reliable. It also doesn't hold a charge very well; if I don't fully charge both units within hours of using them, one of them inevitably dies and I have to switch to a cable (also mid-gig). Regrettably, I held on to it beyond 30 days, so I can't return it for a refund.

Drops out

By Sweetwater Customer on February 5, 2019

Had high hopes for this. Unfortunately it suffers from drop-outs and I found it unusable. I'd rather endure a cable and have continuous clear sound than be cable free but have sound problems. Too bad!
