Focal Sub6 11 inch Powered Studio Subwoofer Reviews
It's important to be able to hear the lower octaves when you're recording, mixing, and mastering. Driven by a beefy 350 watts, the Focal Sub6 11" powered subwoofer extends your monitoring down to 30Hz in a linear fashion at any SPL. The Sub6 gives you the setup flexibility of 2.1, 2.2, or surround LFE configurations, while its highpass crossover, adjustable phase, and level control let you achieve seamless integration with your full-range monitors. A footswitch input lets you instantly A/B your program material with and without the subwoofer, greatly improving your sonic perspective.

Wow!
Was skeptical about this and only expecting to hear a bit more low end in my system. Has exceeded my expectations! I use with Solo 6 Be's. Mids and highs are more defined and low end is now present but not overwhelming! It has been like a key that unlocked my monitor's and super charged them. Highly recommend.
Awesome
I would like to drop a review update now that the sub is fully broken in. Its even better. I love it and I'm mixing with it always on and the translation is beautiful. I also love that I can now get away with buying smaller satellite speakers and not have to worry about how low they go.
Also..to my last review... don't eq with the volume knob. There are a lot of methods and people that know way more than me on setting up subs properly. I shouldn't have put that in there. Once It's set up properly which mine now is..its really a joy to listen to music. Its expensive, but I don't regret it one bit. The fun that it adds to the process really makes it worth it, and my eq decisions are even more emotional which is what I'm after.
knocks
Awesome sub. Deep lows, no distortion. just clean emotional bass.
variable phase makes it a breeze to set up for perfect in phase crossover. Not just flip the switch and see what sounds best. It makes a difference... Actually was the main reason I bought it.
Eq fav mixes with sub volume knob and you're done.
In closing, It's a great buy.
If you have the Twins you need this!
I paired the Focal sub6 with Focal Twin 6's. It truly is a perfect match. The twins are obviously great on their own but if you ever hear them with the sub6...you will then feel you NEED and want it. When set correctly in your room you will HEAR the subtle extension to 30hz. (I say hear because, many sub's you cannot hear but only feel).
How I set up the Twins with the Sub6:
12 inches from the wall. I do not hi pass the satellites and always keep them full range. I have the LO Pass set at 50hz and I also keep the sub in level plane with the twins with the sub cover taken off. these settings makes a subtle but big difference. Finally I have the level of the sub set so that the bloom of the kick starts to round off at the bottom and when this is done the bass guitar extension is also naturally extended and rounded perfectly.
A big plus is that it has an bypass switch on the back so you can start your mix with it off and work on the mid-range...then use a 1 button footswitch (not supplied...I bought a fender amp 1 switch footswitch from Amazon) to bring it in as you go along to keep those extended frequencies in check.
Note: I used Earth Wind and Fire's I AM, Steely Dan and various Jazz Rock fusion (tribal tech, yellowjackets, allan holdsworth) tracks as reference.
Another Note: My studio size is 20 x 36 with treatment and 10 foot ceiling.
Excellent Subwoofer -- Important to Own
When I started on my journey (which I'm still on) of improving my mixes, I bought just the Solo 6s (which are great). Then I bought a pair of NS-10 clones (CLA-10s). After that I added the Sub6. For me, having now owned a sub, it is a necessity.
The Sub 6 was a sensible choice since I had already the Solo 6s. Simply put; it sounds phenomenal. As to the total value (2 speakers + sub) to achieve full-range, or if there is a competing subwoofer at a lower cost I could have gone with -- it's hard to say. But it's not something that keeps me up at night. This one sounds great (more importantly: accurate), and I'm happy I own it.
Well worth the wait and investment
Honestly waited for five years with just using my Focal Solo 6's. I produce EDM and rap, so I have been curious about the low end. After having the sub 6 you can clearly hear the low end and it's powerful and tight at the same time. It's impressive honestly. The midrange and sound stage has increased as well since the Solo 6's don't need to do as much. Great investment. I know it's expensive but you getting high quality and a much more enjoyable listening experience. Having the sub makes me feel like I added a new layer to my studio that was missing the whole time.
Boom Boom Room Approved
Have these paired with the Focal Alpha 80s and sound perfect together.. They cover all the low end i can throw at it in Contrast to the Adam subs which i had to return because they couldn't cover the full 808 spectrum that's very popular in Hip Hop right now....
Powerful
This sub is awesome beyond my expectations hit any low with out cracking I paired this sub with the twin 6be and never looked back...
