ReviewsWorks great for stereo concert recording!
by Barry Lawrensen from Orange City, IA USA
Installed the software (in WinXP), and it worked immediately out of the box. We use for concert recording (symphonic band, orchestra, etc.) into a Dell computer via USB2. We record with Adobe Audition... read more [+], and it works awesome!June 1, 2006 Music Background: Live Sound Engineer Mackie has great DSP available in their software, though we don't need it for our application. I consider this a great value, with Mackie's clean preamps and the versatility of this unit. My only complaint is I don't really like the funky design, though it works fine and control layout is logical. I would prefer a logical layout in a traditional rectangular case (like the Presonus Firebox). But Mackie wanted to pay a designer for this one, and I don't really think it helps sales any. Overall I recommend this unit if you don't have firewire on your PC. close [-] Spike is unreliable

Number one is the rating for: (Just Not Right For Me). The Spike is not right for anyone. First their SoftApp applet is worthless and does not work with their device on Windows. DO a little internet research and read the forums before you buy.May 28, 2006 Music Background: But I was happy to use Tracktion for what I needed- EXCEPT the Spike is horrible. The first one I got I lost my right headphone channel. Sweetwater sent me another asap. No flies on them. This was OK UNTIL two days later, the thing just stopped working and Tracktion errored trying to talk to it. Let me make this clear: I have a powerful HP zv5000 laptop. This is no old computer. What I found was this device is intermittant in its working. So how good is an interface which is so unreliable for field recording? I AM so disappointed with Mackie. This product is poor quality and a recipe for hassle and frustration. They should stick to the stuff they do well at. Thanks Mackie, now I have to go with the hassle of sending two units back to Sweetwater. Intermittant. Unreliable. Buy a different interface and save yourself the headaches. Again, Sweetwater is the best - it's just this device. close [-]
