Focusrite Scarlett 4i4
This interface works really well and is a big step up from my previous one. My recordings come out a lot cleaner now and the ease of use makes it a really great product.
Scarlett 4i4 gen 4
I'm very impressed with this interface. My use case is recording music into a Dell XPS 15. I have a Motu ultra lite Mk 5 for use in my home studio but I needed a more portable solution. Enter the gen 4. It has exceeded my expectations in just about every possible way, save for the headphone amp. It's not that it's bad by any means I'm just used to the Mk 5. The gen 4 is a great little interface. I would highly recommend.
Great for home studio!
This is my first interface, and it's great! I currently have a Rode podmic, a bass guitar, and my iPad for backing tracks plugged in. The audio quality is great. My only complaint is that the Focusrite Control 2 app doesn't let me link channels 3 and 4 together as a stereo pair for some reason, even though it looks like you can link the 2 channels on a Scarlett studio together.
Much Better Than The Gen 3
I'm so happy that I purchased this to replace my 4i4 Gen 3. Having an actual power supply corrected all the issues I was experiencing with the Gen 3. The Gen 3 could not support the external monitors I was using and consistently powering down.
Only reason I didn't give this a full 5-star review is because I was one of the unlucky few that received the new interface without a US plug adapter. Attempted to correct the issue with Focusrite directly and their only available option at the time was for me to return the entire shipment back to them in exchange for a new one they had in stock. I ended up ordering a 5v USB-C power supply
An upgrade
By the end of 2023, my project studio had produced 152 radio and podcast programs, 52 new songs and mastered hours of vintage concerts and audio for Sound Century Audio Casts. Gage Massey at Sweetwater gave me some great ideas on a USB interface. The Focusrite Starlite 4i4, fit the bill. It is durable, versatile and comes in a small package! Sound Century is more portable than ever, and I am always in search for great gear that helps in telling great stories, creating great music, and bringing the best sound design to our listeners.
4i4 is greeat, power adapter issue cost 2 stars
This review / rating is in no way a reflection on Sweetwater or the 4i4 overall. The issue I had is purely based with Focusrite (the company) and how something minor is being handled.
The shipped power adapter in the first 4i4 I received didn't include the adapter plate for US wall sockets, only plates for UK and EU sockets. Sweetwater cross shipped a replacement (new 4i4) in an attempt to resolve the problem, but the plate was missing from the second unit as well. In contacting Focusrite, they want to treaty it as a warranty, have me return the current unit and then ship a replacement that may be delayed due to availability and can't guarantee that I would actually even receive a new unit ("This is fulfilled by our US distributor, American Music and Sound, therefore any units that fail within this period will be replaced by them with a new or refurbished unit based on stock availability and original purchase date.").
The appropriate response should be along the lines of "We'll get you the correct adapter right away.", not fully replacing a unit that works perfectly well.
That said-
The 4i4 is replacing my 3rd gen 2i2. I was having some sound issues that appeared to be coming from the 2i2 and since switching to the 4i4 have gone away. Outs 1 and 2 feed a yamaha receiver, outs 3 and 4 feed my amps. Front ins 1 and 2 are my mic + guitars / basses, rear ins are the left / right off my synth.
The unit can be toggled into standalone mode then is able to be disconnected from a computer as long as there is an available power source (hence why the power adapter issue took it down to 3 stars).
This is my 3rd Scarlett .. gen2 Solo, gen3 2i2, and now a gen4 4i4.
It's worth buying, though you may have to byo power supply - Power adapter (USB-C, 5V, 3A, 15W)
