A LOT TO LIKE

By Mark King from Beautiful Melbourne Florida on April 23, 2024 Music Background: Retired professional, loving life and my wife

On Apple Mac there is no driver to install which is nice, you just plug it in and select where you want your output to go. The interface comes with two USB cables, one for legacy USB connections and the other for USB-C.

I use this interface to replace the 1/8" TRS audio output from my 12-core (kitchen) Mac Pro. The balanced audio outputs on the SSL2+ are a big step up in quality compared to the stock audio outputs. It is nice having two headphone outputs with separate volume controls. Midi in and out is great if you need it. I'm a big fan of latency-free monitoring and this box does it with the simple balance knob. The basics are all here and work as advertised.

The included software package is a joke, it was one misstep after another. The whole software package seems like a come-on to get you to subscribe so SSL can charge you monthly when your "free time" expires. I don't need SSL plugins; they are some of the highest in resource-usage of any I own. Sweetwater has already hooked me up with plenty of plugins so the software did not factor in my purchase.

I'm using this audio interface on my kitchen DAW, it's not my main system but I do like for it to have excellent sound and in that department this interface excels (even though it maxes out at only +14 dBu output level, even Behringer includes +21 dBu outputs).

The 4K buttons and mode are interesting but of little use to me. I have some wonderful microphones and they don't need help from these preamps. If you record with 4K engaged and later find it to be brittle sounding you can't get rid of it because it is recorded; for this reason I don't use the 4K features.

The headphone outputs deliver plenty of drive to Audio Technica, Sennheiser, Behringer and Beyer headphones.

The controls on the SSL2+ are easy to use and make sense. The housing is compact and sturdy.

The icing on the cake is the price, this is A LOT of interface for only $. You can record excellent sounding tracks with this little box. The big blue knob provides you with a handy place to control your monitor speaker volume, it's easy to grab because it's the biggest knob on the box.

You must decide if it is RIGHT for YOU and your application. Good Music To You!

One of the best interface out there

I am super happy with my purchase. I played with this interface enough and I can say it's amazing. I like everything about this product and I recommend it to everybody.

Owned this for a few years now

Bought this in 2021 and it's been flawless for me. Definitely the best interface I have owned over the years, It's cheaper now than it was in the past, it was a lot of bang for the buck. This is a must have for your budget friendly studio

Best value in USB audio interface with amazing performance

By Rich Sadowsky from Sturbridge, MA on November 10, 2023 Music Background: musician since age of 5 playing, singing, writing primarily just for me.

I bought this after having some problems with M1-based Macs and USB audio interfaces such as the MOTU M4 4x4 USB-C Audio Interface. I had encountered some SSL equipment in a professional studio and new of the brand's reputation. So I returned my Motu M4 and bought this. The SSL2+ solved all my compatibility problems with my MacBooks with M1/M1 pro CPUs. The quality of the recordings and playback are outstanding. I can unequivocally say it works with modern Mac's with Apple Silicone over USB C.

At first I thought I wouldn't like the connections being all in back of the unit. But it turns out that I typically set and forget plugging in the two desired channels in, at least 2 out, and two headphone jacks each with independent volume. The big volume know is super easy to adjust as is the gain knobs for each channel. I use two different style headphones, typically Sony MDR-7506 and Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, each highlighting different attributes of a mix. Two outputs with individual volume is a nice feature that I use more than I expected. I just leave the two cans mentioned plugged in and adjusted to about a 75db level.

I typically use a pair of SM57s or sometimes other mics to mic a Celestion Blue Alnico driven by Blackstar KT88 tube amp, or use the same mics to point to good sonic locations on an acoustic. I've also used a DI box as well as plugging instrument level line in directly. All worked as expected with solid results.

I've had a lot of audio interfaces through the years running on Mac OS, Windows, and even Linux. This is the best value purchase I've ever made in an audio interface.

Substantial Upgrade for Under $250

By Daniel Hoehne from Metamora, IL on September 26, 2023 Music Background: Composer, producer

Upgraded from a PreSonus Studio 2/4. While the PreSonus is certainly good equipment, it's not even in the neighborhood of the SSL2 plus. I have used two PreSonus interfaces and they have gotten the job done but there has been a consistent problem with both in getting a sufficient signal level when recording electric guitar. The SSL completely eliminated this. My sales guy, kevin, said this unit was worth the price if nothing more than for the 4K addition. Correct as always!

Compared to the most similar PreSonus model which is the studio 26, another 70 bucks and you jump into a whole new realm of quality. This thing is built like a tank, quality switches and Jacks, near zero latency, and Crystal Clear pristine sound. I love the preamps in this thing.

It took me 5 minutes to download and install the drivers. In just under 2 minutes to plug it in get it hooked up to Studio One and start recording. I would call it foolproof.

Given that I don't own a money tree, I tend to be frugal with my purchases. The 249 price for this unit is way more than fair. Other than my monitors, this is the most important upgrade I've made to my home studio.

SSL 2+

By Michael Dickes from New York, NY on September 1, 2023 Music Background: Songwriter

Love this digital interface! A really great, clean, yet warm sound at a killer price.

A real Surprize.

By Mitchel Evans from Portland, OR on June 14, 2023 Music Background: singa songwriter, harmonica artist.

I need to upgrade from my 1st gen Focusrite 2i4, and the SSL2+ really surprized me. I thought I'd get a slightly cleaner sound, but what I got was a huge bump in clarity and audio separation with this box. It's a gem of an interface. Clean and clear af.
There are some really nice interfaces out there, but let me say, that the layout of the knobs(UI) is such a pleasure, after struggling for years with the tiny, closely spaced controls on the Focusrites. No more mistakes hitting the wrong button in low light.
The Vocalstrip and Drumstrip plugins included are time savers and worth the price of the SSL2+ alone. It's heluva bargain.

Premium Feel and Sound

By Eric from Delaware on May 18, 2023

For over a decade, I used a Lexicon Lambda as my main interface, mostly tracking DI guitars, mic'd cabs, and vocals. While it served me well, it's age began to show and drivers could not keep up, leading to some nasty lagging issues. The SSL 2+ handles all of my recording needs with far greater response, clarity, and options. Within the 2-channel interface and this budget, I feel you'd be hard pressed to surpass the quality. The casing, knobs, jacks, and other hardware feel premium grade and the sound quality is fantastic; clear, low noise, and articulate. Beyond thrilled I decided to go with SSL on this purchase and I believe this can last me even longer than my previous interface.

SSL2+USB - The Best Pro-Budget I/O System

By Robert Wolcott from Maywood, CA on April 19, 2023 Music Background: Musician, Producer, Sound Engineer

When you're looking for a basic I/O Hybrid system, nothing like the SSL2+USB. Everything you need to start producing is inside this little monster!!. Run your Personal or Pro Studio with the Bundled software from a world wide audio Technical Grammy Awarded Company. In this price range there's not a lot of options out there and with the extra discounts and payment plans from Sweetwater, there's no reason to not supercharge your studio and connect the analog world with the digital realm all within a single Interface.

WHAT A GREAT UPGRADE FOR ME

By Sweetwater Customer from CO on February 24, 2023

I purchased this to replace a 'red' interface which was so 'user unfriendly'. The SSL2+ is exactly the opposite. I love the features and layout of this interface. The 4K feature does make a subtle but significant difference. I am extremely happy with the SSL2+. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Wow. Everything you need or want for a home studio

By Joseph G from SAN ANTONIO, TX on August 9, 2022

This thing fixed so many problems for me, some I didn't even know I had (aka the 4K button). I've had Scarlett 2i2 and IK AXE I/O and this SSL interface is just so much more well thought out and useful.

4K makes a lot of sources sound better with the free eq and compression it provides. Don't have to worry about tweaking anything. Just hit the button and instant presence and vibe is added.

The layout of the interface, especially the ins and outs solved some other separate problems that I had, that I won't get into but we're a huge workflow optimizer. This alone made it worth the investment for me.

Having two headphone outputs is a lifesaver when collaborating. The separate headphone amplifier and splitter that I was previously relying on doesn't give quite as clear of a representation of the recording in real time, which added a lot of guesswork and potentially lost creative time.

Overall, this is a great audio interface that provides so many solutions for problems I didn't even know I had and I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about upgrading to a more sophisticated audio interface.

Goodbye Latency!

By Mason Hunter from Kennesaw, GA on July 18, 2022

I recently upgraded to this from a Scarlett 2i2. Instant noticeable improvements to my overall tracking. Unlike the Scarlett where I'd have to fight tooth and nail to get the proper gain level set with an "interesting" to say the least gain colored ring meter, the 2+ is very easy to read exactly what your peaks are looking like with a more traditional fader style gain meter. The pre amps are also quite powerful as I need VERY little initial gain to generate a solid DI signal. I've only scratched the service of this device in this review but the 2+ holds even more goodies than mentioned!

Perfect Audio Interface…Smooth Sound

Great product that works as it should!

By JM from KENT, WA on May 6, 2022

Prior to purchasing the SSL 2+, I used the Audient iD14 MKII USB-C for about 6 months. I had the Audient device hooked up between my Windows 10 computer and Audioengine 5 monitors. I primarily needed a USB audio interface because the built-in sound card on my computer, couldn't handle the Audioengine speakers very well.

When I first hooked up iD14, I was blown away at how good it sounded! However, it didn't take long before the frequent audio disconnects due to "USB not recognized" errors, caused me to long for something else. Not wanting to throw money away though, I held on to the device longer than I should have. I tried multiple things including swapping cables, and tweaking the USB settings, as Audient suggests on their website. The only thing that seemed to make somewhat of an improvement, was to connect the device using USB-A, as opposed to USB-C. which actually seemed to help a bit.

Besides the random disconnects with the iD14, I also didn't like that I needed to turn the volume knob up every I turned the computer on. For some reason, the device resets the volume to 0 whenever the computer is shut down.

Finally I'd had enough, so I purchased and installed the SSL2+. The first thing I noticed was, while the sound was good, it was not as nice as the Audient. The iD14 MKII has more clarity and creates a more emotional reaction to the music. Perhaps it has a better DAC, I'm not sure. If sound quality were the only thing that was important, the Audient device would be the clear winner, IMO. However, unfortunately Audient's drivers ruin what otherwise, and with a little EQ tweaking in my music app, I can make the SSL 2+ sound just as nice.

The next thing I noticed with the SSL2+, was the volume didn't reset each time I reboot/start my computer. Nice! And then, as a bonus, I discovered that the Audioengine speakers no longer "popped", when shutting down the computer. That meant, I could leave them on all the time. The two things I just mentioned may seem like a small thing, but it's so nice to turn the computer on, and just start playing music, without having to turn the Audient volume up to 80%, and then to turning on the Audioengine speakers.

Bottom line, the SSL2+ just works! I've had it installed for about a week now, and not once have I had a problem. Prior to purchasing the SSL2+, I'd thought about going with an RME because I'd read how solid their drivers were, however, for my purposes, that would have been overkill. The SSL2+ has been everything I've needed. It has allowed me to get good sound out of my Audioengine speakers, while using them as computer speakers in my office.

My New Favorite Interface

By Rich from Bay Area on April 29, 2022 Music Background: Used to play in SF Bay Area dive bars. Singer / Song writer playing 8 instruments

The SSL pre amps are the cleanest I've heard in this price class. I use a Royer R10 and SM-57 to record guitar and electric cello and electric violin from my Fender GTX-50 amp. I record vocals using an SE VR2 and Rode NT1A going through a UA Volt 276 and use its compressor.

I have Yamaha HS-5's for stereo mixing and Avantone Mix cube for monitoring connected to the SSL2+

My music is at switchingyard.art so you can hear the results. The Mike Senior book Mixing Secrets for Small Studios is what helped me figure out what has turned out to be the best setup I've ever had, with pretty much all gear purchased from Sweetwater. (Huge shootout to my Sales Engineer AJ)

SSL vs Audient ID14a

By DGR on February 12, 2022

I did a showdown between the SSL vs ID14 v2 at the music store before buying. I have owned the ID14 v1 for many years and was extremely happy with it. The DA sound quality was outstanding, allowing to hear details in songs not heard before.

I was afraid to try the SSL because the Audient quality is so high. I needed to find out if I should get the ID14 v2 or buy the SSL.

We hooked them up to some massive Genelecs and let her rip. What I found out is revealing.

The Audient was crystal clear, with every detail in clear focus. It sounded extremely close to, but better than v1. Now would the SSL come close?

I tried the SSL and what I found was a deep but smooth as butter bottom end. Wow! What a pleasant surprise! Still crystal clear, but the bottom end was so nice.

I chose the SSL and took it home. I do voice overs, so I tried some recordings with the SSL. Wow! again, super smooth and three dimensional sounding!

I compared to my Audient v1 recordings and the SSL was the clear winner for silky smooth.

The only issue I have with the SSL is when recording into QuikTime, because there is no software it only records on the left or right side of the stereo spectrum. You then need to use GarageBand to make it mono. Not a biggie.

It records into logic just fine. No issues with channels at all. It's only an issue with QuickTime because it can't accept a mono signal.

If you want your recordings silky smooth go with the SSL. If you want crystal clear but no 3D sound go with the Audient.

SSL 2+

By MICHAEL on January 31, 2022 Music Background: Songwriter/Musician/Producer

Everything you'd expect from Solid State Logic and more. Definitely an upgrade from a Focusrite Scarlet. The converters and the drivers are simply better. I could go on but what's the point. If you want to improve the sound of your home studio buy an SSL 2+. You'll be very happy you did.

Pristine sound!

By Ricky C from Oak bluffs ma on December 27, 2021 Music Background: Dj / producer / funky vocalist

Love this thing , it's easy to use and sounds great , I can get a solid signal, I find my self using this more than my Apollo twin , when I have a song ideas just pop in my sm7b or 58 and just go , plug and play and super fun . I like the 4K button better for keyboards , keep the signal clean and I can just ad the ssl saturation plug in to taste ! Definitely recommend

LOVE IT & MY VOLT 276

By Sweetwater Customer from Houston, TX on December 19, 2021

I've been using this for a while, i really dont like using the 4k mode if im recording modern sounding rap vocals as it colors the sound too much and messes with the frequency spectrum too much, i am using a Sony c100, Warm Audio WA-8000, SM7B & a AT2020 going into my Neve 1073 SPX then into my DBX 266xs (being used mainly for its gate in my untreated room) and I am also recording with Kaotica Eyeballs on all mics and some Iconic Mars style eyeballs too. The SSL really does the job.

A piece of Legacy

By Jaime Brown from Fayetteville, NC on December 17, 2021

I couldn't afford anything SSL not even the plugins lol. That's until this beauty. I had an old metal interface for years and noticed it was time to move up. So I figured let me try this out and see if it lives up to the name. Well it surely does. I'm happy with it and the free ssl plugins that come with. It's been over a year with multiple songs recorded and still going strong. If they made one with more I/o's at a price point like this I'd buy that one also. Great job SSL!

Clean sound, Simple operation, Great value!

By Roy Justice from Pennsylvania on December 9, 2021 Music Background: Full time Singing Historian, combining music and history in a storytelling and music format on various aspects of American and World History

I had to replace my 'no-longer-being-made' Apogee Element 24 two channel digital interface (which was excellent!) that originally cost over $800. Money was/is tight and I had to replace that unit in a hurry and couldn't afford the new Apogee models that would suit my needs. The reviews for this SSL 2+ unit were encouraging but I thought that they might be a little hyped, based upon the energy and enthusiasm behind the majority of the reviews. I decided to try it, knowing that Sweetwater would take care of 'things' for me if 'things' didn't work out. No need to be concerned about that! I was amazed at the simplicity of operation and the quality of the preamps and the build! Designed to be immediately compatible with iMac it was literally just 'plug and play' with my M1 Mac mini. I was able to handle monitoring situations In an easier way with this interface than I have ever experienced before. In the past, because of my particular set-up, I was using two different audio chains to monitor the sound while recording, which didn't give me a true acoustic picture of what I was actually hearing/listening to until post-processing. I was accomplishing all of my audio needs within this one unit! Granted, my needs are relatively simple - two channel input and output (singer/songwriter solo guitar) but this unit saved me time and money and actually sounds as good - if not better! - than my much more expensive former setup, taking up much less space and giving me dials and buttons rather than digital apps. I'm 'old school' and prefer manual control over some things - not all - but, some, especially in the recording phase of a project. I'm enjoying much more direct control and much faster changes in balancing inputs, outputs and monitoring. I'm not qualified to give a stat-to-stat breakdown of the functions of this interface but I can tell you that - based upon hearing my results (the ultimate test for any production) - if you're looking for an affordable, small-footprint, great-sounding, versatile, and unique-looking interface, this is one to consider. VERY happy with this purchase! Also: Sweetwater is the BEST! Their customer service 'sets the bar high' for all others. (No, I'm not getting paid nor compensated in any way for this testimonial or endorsement!) Many thanks to Bill Sears, my customer rep. at Sweetwater. To the Marketing Department at Sweetwater - I'm embarrassed to admit that the little bags of candy that are sent along with every order ARE a factor in my ordering decisions and - the very few times that I have had to buy something from another company, when their package arrived - with no candy in it - there was a bit of a 'let-down' that I experienced, increasing my loyalty and desire to order only from Sweetwater! (Now that I think of it....that does raise some concerns about what motivates me.... ; ) LOL!) Even though I have the ability to drive 5 minutes down the road to the store and can buy as much candy as I want (which I 'hardly' ever do!), there is 'something special' about that little collection of sweets that arrives in the bag with the Sweetwater logo on it that arrives with my orders and I welcome that ALMOST as much as the new equipment. : ) Great marketing!!

SSL +2 audio interface

By Sweetwater Customer on December 9, 2021 Music Background: Musician

I'm very happy with this interface. Love the headphone monitoring and the ability to monitor and blend the live input versus the software output from your PC. You do have to download the software with ASIO driver for use with windows, but pretty seamless. Well built. Handles line input as well as high impedance for guitar and phantom power for condenser mics, but push button switches are a little cheesy. They would be nicer if they lit up when depressed. Overall very happy with choice.

Best In Class

By Nate B from Michigan on December 7, 2021 Music Background: Independent Recording Artist

I've always been a fan of Solid State Logic's EQ's, Plugins, and Preamps - of course, as a working class musician grinding in late-stage capitalism, I can't afford a whole SSL deck.

This little unit gives me the basic taste of high-end hardware that lives up to the name it derives from.

The preamps are clean, sterile, and transparent. It's a good foundation and hub for other hardware in your chain because it will fully pick up color and character without coloring the signal itself.

The 4K switches are a nice depth enhancement that adds some low end width and high-end sparkle. Careful with this switch - it makes vocals and acoustic pieces sound great under the appropriate circumstances, but it is not a color that works in all parts of a mix.

The monitor knob is loud, and I - among some other differing opinions, strongly appreciate the RCA outputs on this unit to allow me to run the signal to home audio amps and listen to a mix on a more musical (colored) output than the sterility of studio monitors, when appropriate. As expected, the monitor knob affects the RCA outputs as well, so you'll have to balance your volume staging down the line accordingly.

The dual headphone output is a must that you can't live without once you have it, and I usually keep a set of closed back on one output and a set of open back on the other. Quickly being able to swap headphones speeds up workflow considerably.

If you are an independent artist in this digital world, this is a solid workhorse that gets the job done with results you are satisfied with every time. There are lots of other choices in the market, but this one did exactly what I need it to do, and gives that legendary SSL sound without having to max out a credit card.

After ONE YEAR REVIEW.

By Abdisamad Keinan from St Paul, MN on October 14, 2021 Music Background: Studio Owner / Sound Engineer

I purchased this interface because one of my engineers advised me to upgrade so we can get more audio quality than our previous interface Scarlett 2I2 2ND GEN, we have been using it one year since we purchased it and I can say honestly it's worth the money, the only downside I can say is there's no inbuilt talkback compared to Scarlett we connected extra mice and been using it as a talk-back, we do a lot of sessions with voice talents and we need to communicate while they are inside the booth, but that's just a minor issue and we are going to purchase separately talkback system.

Sweet Water Customer service is an amazing shout-out to my sales engineer Toney Greer, I recommend him anytime.

I recommend to you all this is a beast and make sure you record with the 4K you will be surprised by Audio quality.

WOW

By Eric from NJ on August 26, 2021

This thing is unbeatable for the price. Period. It's so easy to use and it works for everything you could ever want from an interface. Coming off of a Scarlett Solo, I literally just wanted a bigger volume knob that was easier to access and turn. The big blue guy is well weighted and easy to turn without thinking or even looking. Two mic inputs, two audio inputs, two headset inputs. It's solid too, weighs a little and feels like I could drop it a few times.

Pros:
Easy to use and figure out
Big but not too big
Lotta inputs
Two headset inputs (LIFESAVER)
SSL's Legacy 4K option for a little warmth for vocals
Great weight on the knobs

Cons:
4K button is a little finicky, you have to really press it for it to not come right back up and not engage
SSL's awful user experience to get the drivers

Amazing device!

Can't say enough good things about this little interface. Exceptional sound, all the ins and outs I could ever want in a bus powered interface. This has been my interface when I'm on the go and it continues to inspire me! GET IT!

Solid Kit - Great upgrade to a basic interface

By Jim Edgar from San Rafael, CA on May 25, 2021 Music Background: Voice Actor / Studio Setup consultant

My Scarlett 2i2 G1 has served me well for years (and is still going strong, but has a lot of hours on it...)
I've been hearing good things about this unit from clients and folks I trust. I swapped it in a few weeks back and really like it. Clean solid pre's make my mics sound great, and the 4K switch puts just enough pleasant edge in the signal that I've had a couple clients ask for that as my raw VO sound.
Rear routing has cleaned up my work area immensely. Smooth controls and nice solid construction.
My ONLY gripe is that they don't give an LED to confirm 48V to the microphone (there is a blink pattern which plays when you turn it on or off) - that's the only thing which they seem to have missed.
Otherwise - plenty of gain for LDC's, plenty of volume for headphones, and they do a fine job of driving my desktop monitors.
Thank you SSL for bringing this out - it's a superb option for a simple setup.

This thing has been amazing.. love how it just works effortlessly with my complex combination of software.
I even use it for watching movies at night after the day is done - I'm surprised it hasn't tired out from overuse because it's usually on about 18 hours a day.

You can use it with Max/MSP, Reaktor, VCV, etc.. all running at the same time as having videos up on Youtube. Can even insert an ATMOS shim if you want to. If there's ever a hiccup, it's really easy to fix and this thing just sort of figures out what you're trying to do and chugs along happily.

Seems to be pretty much idiot proof. The build quality is so great and has the best feeling knobs ever-wish they put these on synths.

Can't help but just admire the way it looks sometimes. Received a very nice SSL plug-in collection as a bonus.

They really knocked it out of the park with this one and I hope we see much more to come from SSL!

Love it and top notch Customer Service from Solid State Logic

By Luciano Salem from NAPERVILLE, IL on March 19, 2021

Very clean converter and preamps. Intuitive and easy to use. I just love using this interface and the results I get from it. A great feature is the ability to use channels 3 and 4 with different effects and monitor them on the second headphones. Also, the customer service of SSL is second to none. I love a company that responds quickly and with precise answers to inquiries about the specific characteristics or functionality of their products. Kudos to their team.

It's a great little box!

So pleased with my SSL 2+ Set up was easy and it sounds great. I already hear the difference in my recordings. The signal and conversion to my DAW is clean and detailed. Feel like I'm capturing the full potential from my mics now.
Also really like the vst plugins that are included.

Preamps sound good!

By Sweetwater Customer on March 10, 2021 Music Background: I started recording in the 70's on a Teac 4 track reel to reel. I have worked in the broadcast televison engineering field since 1983. I have done many recordings over the years with lots of different equipment. I've also produced a few CDs in my time.

The preamps sound good. I couldn't hear a big difference with the 4k switch, maybe a little on the top end. Possibly I will hear more difference in a mix but I haven't done that yet. It works well with Cakewalk Bandlab. There is very little latency and midi also works. Overall it's a good interface and worth the price.

Does what I need

By Sweetwater Customer on February 19, 2021

I needed mainly a fast interface for my midi keys. This thing gets down to about a 2ms delay which is largely imperceptible. Certainly does not impede my playing like 10ms or more does. I like it.

WOW! Mixing, Mastering, Listening.

By Sweetwater Customer from KY on February 5, 2021 Music Background: Guitarist, singer, mixing, mastering

For any price range, these have been surprisingly accurate so far. I've only had them for a couple weeks, but I'm impressed. Before I bought them I googled the frequency response and compared them to others thousands more. The charts are so similar. I compared the frequency response to the infamous Yamaha NS10 that are used in large production studios and they're pretty much the same. Another weird thing is that the NS10 were once the cheapest pair you could get too (now 5-10x as much). They only made them for a short time decades ago and now you can barely find them because they're in the biggest studios around the world. These monitors may very well be THE cheap monitors looked back in 20 years from now.

Apparently You Can Have It All

By Pete from Midwest on February 4, 2021 Music Background: Producer, Musician, Mixer

The SSL 2+ replaces a nice but terminally glitchy and finicky Audient ID22, and boy, does it! I'm typically skeptical of glowing gear reviews -- buyers typically either love their purchase or hate it. In this case, however, I can't find anything bad to say about the SSL, and I literally like everything about it. Two great pres? Check. Fantastic converters? Check. Two headphone outs? Check. Low(ish) latency via USB-C? Yep. An utterly musical "legacy" mode? Yes. Back-panel connections (so I don't have mic cables, etc. sticking out onto my desk). Rock-solid reliability and idiot-proof setup. I like the control layout, perfect for desktop use.

Okay, the knobs and buttons are plastic, but they have a solid, no-wiggle feel as they turn. I've used Focusrite (2nd & 3rd Gen, Scarlett and Clarett), Presonus, Audient (great idea, bad product) -- the usual pro-sumer level interfaces. The SSL is better than them. It sounds better, it works better, it looks cooler. And the Monitor Level knob goes to 11.

If it's a terrific home-studio interface you're looking for, you can pay more money, but you won't get a better interface.

Nice!

By Terry Kingen from WA on January 31, 2021

The SSL2+ is a welcome addition to my humble home studio. Routing is logical and the pres are clean and strong. Ordering, delivery and setup were easy as 1-2-3. Highly recommended.

Can't beat it for the price.

By Rob L from NY on January 28, 2021

Two headphone amps and midi-ins sold me on this. The converters are great and plug ins are a nice bonues.

Also, the 4K button has it's place when you need a little lift but keep in mind, it adds a 1.5dB shelf above 2kHz and a ton of distortion, including a surprising amount of 3H.

Overall solid piece of gear, feels well built and looks cool.

SSL 2+ A Great Interface For a Small Home Studio

By Stephen Leslie from Southampton, Pennsylvania on January 19, 2021 Music Background: Singer, songwriter, owner of Chipperley Music Publishing.

I tried other interfaces but by far the SSL is the best, love the way the controls are set not all close together and actual metering to be able to read mike levels and all the input and outputs on the back of the interface instead of some on the front. Definitely worth the money. One additional note, after I ordered and the order shipped, the United States Post Office was overwhelmed and a shipment that should have taken just several days didn't arrive, I contacted Sweetwater and their response was immediate, their head of customer service called me immediately and told me they would Fed-ex a new unit and Sweetwater would provide a prepaid shipping label to return the original once it arrived. The Fed-ex was right on time. I was really impressed with how Sweetwater followed up and will only buy my audio equipment from them.

Let SSl take care of the sound...

By Tom from New Hampshire on January 13, 2021 Music Background: Professional with 56+ years of experience

This device provides excellent sound quality. Not having waded into the interface pool before, and having no baseline for comparison of less expensive devices, I would say I clearly hear a depth to my mixes front to back not previously heard through other converters. That gives me considerably more confidence in mixing choices. The recordings I have made (voice and guitar)are clear and devoid of any digital artifacts like hiss in the decay tails of both voice and guitar...problems with my previous converters forcing me into the market for a better alternative. Shout out to Hayden Flack for his input and insight. The 4K mode imparted a mojo to my naturally soft voice that worked very well in the first two mixes, a pop styled moderate tempo mix and an 808-based soul ballad. EQ on both guitar and voice require less adjustment...quality in--quality out. The line from the owner's manual that has made the most sense essentially says "focus on your music while we take care of the sound". That, SSL has done.

So long Apollo!

By Rob from NY on January 5, 2021 Music Background: Pro drummer, producer, tracking engineer, writer

I use this for tracking vocals (I let the pros mix for me now) so I sold my Apollo Twin after A/B testing the conversion quality (as they are equal), however, the SSL 4K button is magical! It adds presence and sparkle that the Apollo lacks and at about a third of the price.

Add to it dual headphones with separate controls, SLL plug ins and Midi? Man the SSL2+ is a bargain!

I also bought a MoCo monitor control with mute and mono (to create what I most used on the Apollo) and still had some cash left over after selling the Apollo Twin Duo, it's a no brainer.

The most versatile audio interface ever

By John on December 9, 2020

You can connect this thing to just about anything and have a great time, I hooked it up to my iPad via the camera usb and lightning adapter and my iPad is used just like a computer I can plug it into a wall socket with a usb block and I can record and do whatever. I even use this in the car for better amplitude when listening to music. I think this may have been the best purchase I've ever made and with its price it's just magnificent great job SSL as always thank you for this product it's impeccable.

Extremely Happy!

By charlie on December 7, 2020

The 2+ works flawlessly in my home studio. I'm running it on a dual booted PC (Windows 10/Ubuntu) with Jamulus and other online real time "play-together" applications. The extra RCA outputs enabled me to easily integrate the unit into various work flows and desired functions, including using it stream audio and video on a separate machine running Zoom. I'm feeding it's inputs with a mixer. I also tested it running Ubuntu and it worked fine. It seems to me the folks at SSL really got it right. The price/features point is competitively good. Spend a little more and gain a lot. You'll be happier.

I bought this a few weeks ago and it has been a game changer. The difference between normal tracking and the 4K tracking is a huge difference. While the normal tracking sounds more flat, the 4K feature gives a bright warm full body sound that is ready to go!!! The SSL Native Plugins are mind blowing they are awesome, worth every penny!!!! This SSL 2+ is absolutely amazing. It is a huge upgrade from my Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen. I have messed with other Focusrite's such as the 3rd gen 2i2's and so on and this is better. The preamp on this interface provides more detail, warmth, and clarity than the Focusrites. I'm not taking away from the Scarlett series by any means, but to my ears, there is just a substantial difference between the two interfaces. Go with the SSL 2+ if you're tossed between the two. I promise you won't be disappointed. Thank Anthony for getting me taken care of. Sweetwater is the best.

I was stuck between a few different audio interfaces and did a lot of research via blogs and YouTube reviews. So, I contacted Sweetwater to get their input. Spoke with Greg, he had great insight and recommended the SSL2+ based on my input and budget. I am IN LOVE with the SSL2+!!! It sounds so clean and that 4k mode is just amazing. I completed circle and bought the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones, also a recommendation by Greg, for reference mixing. I've never been more happy with my home studio setup than I am now. Sweetwater is not only a great resource for buying equipment, but has knowledgeable representatives who can give you unbiased input which is always much appreciated. Out of Box and Into Action

By Sweetwater Customer on September 18, 2020

Very happy with this new interface, and with Sweetwater service. Arrived much quicker than expected, which is always nice. Just unboxed, hooked it up to my iMac (no drivers required), and it works perfectly. Be aware you can't use a USB hub. I had to trial and error that for a couple minutes.

The 4K option lends a nice subtle tonal warmth. No power supply! Runs off the USB power, which was a welcome surprise. One less cable to worry about.

Haven't downloaded the software yet, but will do that soon. Be aware a lot of it is "trial" version stuff, but some is real/permanent. All in all, quite satisfied overall.

Very Good Interface

By Jacob Miller from WOODINVILLE, WA on September 3, 2020 Music Background: Composer, Audio Engineer

I previously had an apogee ensemble firewire that I really loved, but I never used more than 3 preamps and I needed to save space. Naturally, I was very picky about what would follow it, and the SSL 2+ totally fits the bill. First off, it goes to 11. 2 is decently loud, and when fully cranked(and no audio playing) there is barely any perceptible noise from the unit itself. The preamps are very quiet, it takes quite a bit of gain before the noise floor becomes perceptible. I love that it has 2 headphone outputs, and the layout of the monitor and headphone knobs makes it very easy and intuitive to switch back and forth between them. The 4K button is neat! It does add sweetness in a nice unobtrusive or gimmicky way. My only complaint is that outputs 3 and 4 are RCA rather than 1/4", I would have preferred standard 1/4" outputs.

SSL USB 2+

By stephan from North Carolina on August 30, 2020 Music Background: Sorta professional musician

Had to wait a bit for the interface to receive due to back order status. When I finally got, plugged it in, downloaded the driver and was off. Nice clarity in the pre. Runs smoothly with Sonar Platinum as my DAW. No issues and no apparent latency. Very happy. Love that all the inputs are on the back panel. So far, so good! Replaced an aging Tascam US-144 so it is a huge step up at a very reasonable price. I like having a knob to set level of DAW output with my input level when I'm tracking, similar to what I'm used to on the TASCAM. Other units I came close to buying left that to software control. Some folks love that; I don't.

Love it!!!

This interface is excellent. I was (am still) shocked at the sound quality. I get better recording levels at home on my little laptop then i ever did on a loaded desktop at a buddies' studio. Honestly the only time i don't use the 4k is for bass guitar, and even then, a case could be made. And the 6 month access to the library of native plugins (plus 2 you get to keep) are worth the price alone. Completely thrilled with my purchase, and the Sweetwater customer service makes it even sweeter!

Outstanding, money well spent

By Daniel from Alaska on July 8, 2020 Music Background: PRO

My Steinberg interface was dying and I wanted to upgrade. I chose this even though I had to wait. My sales Rep Jim Watson said these were awesome.

The 4k does make a difference but what's really blowing me away is the low noise floor. I use in the box amps to record and I have battled noise during recording. Now there's minimal if any. Also, I haven't had 1 driver issue, nothing and the SSL software is great. I probably will continue to rent it after my 6 months is up. The reverb is a standout.

Totally made the right choice. This smokes everything at this price point. Sure I'd like Antelope but until I can afford it...and justify it this will work. It really sounds great and is a joy to work with.

Excellent Sound. Easy to use and Versatile.

By Sweetwater Customer from Pacific Northwest on February 22, 2020 Music Background: Always involved in something

An early adopter chiming in with "this thing is great". The studio is built around a UAD Apollo 8 racked up with cabling to almost every possible I/O and as such is not portable. I need something I can grab and go to do voice overs, film tracking, etc: often recording directly into the client's session: so USB2 and Mac/PC is great. (I've used Apollo Twin, Zoom H5 with extra mics, etc.)

Two headphone outs: one for the engineer one for the client (SO useful on those fly-gig-beatpack-improv calls that come in). The headphone pres sound excellent; enough gain for Beyerdynamic 770s, more than enough for anything else.

The SSL2+ has enough +48v current draw for any mics I have including the more demanding than most Townsend Sphere. There is no audible self noise even with the gain maxed with ribbons, and it picks up every nuance of a 70's U87 or a handy dandy M88.

4K mode sounds very good: Very useful for a quick vocal enhancement: maybe not quite as subtle or nuanced as the transformer mojo of a Focusrite ISA1, not sure how the 4K will hold up with subsequent processing: Haven't had the time to explore 4K much yet. Nice to have: but the accuracy of the straight pre is more important to me.

The DI is outright fantastic. Reamp even once and you'll know what I mean.

Monitoring latency is not a problem: Use your head and the mix knob. Putting Comfort Reverb on an AUX in the DAW to Phone 2 via out 3-4 is easy to set up. The SSL2+ is so quick and easy to set up - and works on remote film shoots (no AC) its powered just by USB. The audio quality really is outstanding: otherwise I would use some other device.

In my world, anyway, the SSL2+ does a fabulous job.

great value

By alexander van bubenheim from los Angeles on February 18, 2020 Music Background: award winning music producer

in my studio i am using different usb interfaces, like UA, and Soundcraft UI 24, this little SSL unit is right up there in quality.
the specs are incredible and they are not just numbers it really delivers a clean sound with an amazing low noise floor for such
a small package.
the 4k feature is nice to have, but if you run a Neumann u87 or any expensive condenser mic through it, you will not need that.
however if you work with ribbon mics or vintage mics such as Sennheiser Md421 its a useful little trick.
it will add a bit noise but in return you get a very pleasant upper harmonic distortion, which SSL is known for.
my favorite feature on the ssl 2 plus is the Midi and the 2 Headphone outs, very smart.
over all, i would prefer this to most interfaces out there.

Simply incredible!

This Is What A Desktop Interface Should Be

By Customer from Austin on February 13, 2020

Disclosure:Big fans of SSL, going back to mid-80's and training on SSL's 3000 series while attending Full Sail. There is serious mojo living in their products, period. While we sure didn't expect the performance of a full-sized desk from their new USB interface,we have been close to blown away by the recordings we have captured. SSL got it right, sure appreciate that! Downloaded drivers from company website and we were good to go, pronto. Paired with a Roland A-49 keyboard controller, this setup is top notch. We also purchased a new MOTU M4 4 in/4 out, which is also amazing, but we prefer the physical shape of the SSL to the MOTU and the 4K option really works for our needs. Try it with various mics, you'll realize it's no gimmick. Stereo spectrum is amazing with both units, making 2020 a good year to upgrade your digital conversion. Hopefully, the future for the SSL includes an optical input, just because that would be too awesome and would allow us to send stems out to a SiX and keep the signal flow all SSL. In the meantime, I can say our SSL2+USB thoroughly blows away our iD14, especially considering the driver issues that caused us to stop using it. This is a ridiculous bargain at the current price, well played.

Amazing preamps. Amazing value.

By Sweetwater Customer on February 8, 2020

Not sure anything comes close to the value of this interface. To get two of these preamps for under $300 is amazing. Guitars sound amazing through the interface...especially once you pop on the 4K feature. It also handles my sm7b without any external boost. Hopefully they release a 4 input interface in the future. Can't recommend this enough for a home studio.

A hard act for beat for under $

By Chris Lutz from DENVER, CO on February 26, 2024

Since I travel/tour for work, finding a good recording interface to take on the road can be a tricky task. While looking for an alternative to my trusty UA X8p I came across the SSL 2+, it seemed almost too good to be true. After some searching around, I found a unit to demo in Seattle. Wow, the results of the preamps floored me for and it was buss powered too!! Then SSL, went ahead a sealed the deal with adding physical MIDI ports and 2 independent headphone outs. This feature makes it a great solution for being able to record/produce voiceovers and/or vocals on the go. The monitor mix knob is another smart decision SSL made on this unit. You can monitor either the Live input or the USB audio via the headphone mix. You can also blend these two signals together, this allows you to A/B processed sounds from your DAW against the unprocessed audio from the inputs. Also, expect low to zero latency when you monitor the input audio. If your tracking guitars or modular synths this can be a real life saver for a hassle free session.

Another topic worth a mention, Legacy 4k mode, it rocks!
When I got out of college in 02, I was lucky enough to intern in a studio that owned an SSL G series and J series console. After hearing these mixers in action for a few years, I became a fan of that analogue air/mojo that these mixers magically produced. As the years went by, plug-ins grew by leaps and bound. soon it was easier to get back into that sonic territory but I always felt some of that SSL mojo was missing. Legacy 4k mode does a great job of breathing that missing mojo back into your DAW. I've been using the 4K mode paired with the Brainworx Console 4000G plug-in and I swear this is closest I've come to producing that "console sound" inside the box. Add in the fact that I can do this all off USB-C with buss power with a laptop, this makes the SSL 2+ a hard act to follow with any other interfaces in this price range.

Easy setup, very intuitive to use, and does everything I need it to do. Nice look also! And the two headphone jacks are a huge plus.

Solid interface, but no idea why it's the only all-rear I/O one on the market

By Jeff Halterman from Chicago, IL on January 23, 2023

I had to "settle" on the SSL 2+ after several months of waiting through releases (from the Audient EVO 16 to the SSL 12) that didn't have all-rear I/O like the 2+ did. I still have no idea why this is pretty much the only desktop interface with that build format. It seems like such a given for home studios.

Design gripes aside, it's solid unit that has been a fantastic upgrade over my old Focusrite Saffire 6. I can't comment on the sound quality, but the $70 discount during the holidays made it a no-brainer replacement.

Pros:
- big ol' volume knob
- it got rid of the incredibly annoying crackling/popping that would come through my Kali Audio LP-6 studio monitors when rebooting/shutting down my desktop with the Saffire 6
- two headphone outputs with two, dedicated volume knobs
- M.I.D.I. I/O, just in case
- independent phantom power
- overall build quality seems decent, particularly the main volume knob

Cons:
- not a fan of the square, latching ("push-button") switches as they feel cheap, especially the two "Legacy 4K" switches; the Audient iD44 Mkii's metal toggle switches seem like the gold standard, that I've seen

Wish List:
- a more granular (or even digital) audio level meter; -40 to 0 in increments of 10 still isn't bad
- a power switch
- replace the unbalanced outputs with a second set of balanced outputs, then add a physical switch so you can monitor/switch between two different sets of studio monitors

As designed...

Great Interface

By Mike on December 29, 2021 Music Background: Producer/composer

The ADA conversion sounds beautiful and there are some features on this thing I absolutely love. When it comes to interface controls, I'm not a fan of clicking around in the software to turn up outputs and such, so I really appreciate that the 2+ has a separate knob for Phones B/Out 3&4 on the front panel. Also, the fact that it even has a Phones B! So handy for tracking a musician/vocalist in a small studio. I was skeptical of the 4K button at first, but it really does add some magic and I use it a lot. The only thing I miss from other interfaces is a DIM/CUT button, but that's pretty nitpicky. Overall, a great little machine.

Audio quality is a no-brainer.

By Lorenzo Vidali on November 29, 2021 Music Background: Recording and Gigging Musician with Music on Spotify

I upgraded from a Motu Audio Express (which is "technically" a professional-level interface) and the difference in audio quality was noticeable.

The SSL 2+ has a much lower noise floor, and there are no clicks or pops, when powering it on/off. The sound is crystal clear and uncolored.

Also, the 4K mode adds a nice sizzle to vocals recorded with the SM7B microphone (which can sound a little clinical, especially for higher register voices). I've used the gain-hungry SM7B on this thing without a cloud lifter, and the sound was really impressive but you could (barely) hear the noise floor with the gain cranked. Honestly I'd be comfortable recording that way, but I bought a cloud lifter anyways just to give me the extra piece of mind (kind of a must with the SM7B).

Another plus about the "2+" (no pun intended) is the second headphone out that can be routed with a separate mix from the main mix. Very useful when working with a producer, or collaborating with someone doing tracking (vocals especially).

I also love that this thing doesn't need drivers (on Mac at least) and doesn't come with any fancy routing software for the unit. What you see is what you get, plug and play, and everything works directly from the hardware. Nice and simple, reliable, and rock solid.

My only gripe is that the phantom power, line, and high-z switches feel a little cheap, and I wish the phantom power switch had a light because I always leave it on.

If sound quality is your main concern, pull the trigger and buy this thing. You can't go wrong. It holds its own against much more expensive studio grade gear any day of the week. SSL indeed put their pedigree into these interfaces.

Solid Interface Recommended

By Sweetwater Customer on March 1, 2021

Really solid, well made piece of equipment both how it's built and functions. Had it for a few weeks now does everything needed very well. Customer service was great also with the package coming sober than expected and follow up was on point. No issues. Don't hesitate to use for home studio.

Cool development

By Alex from Chicago on December 12, 2020

For what it is, a budget interface, it sounds really good. Built well.

Would not complain about using this to edit ideas when away from main studio.

Use case: purchased for a laptop/live rig. If editing ideas when traveling, it makes far more sense to bring this than a rack-mount interface.

Also - the bonus SSL Duende plugins are worth more than the device itself. This cannot be understated. The Duende plugins are some of the only things you can add onto a >36 channel mix without things getting bizarre, phasey/smeary.

SSL 2+

This unit works great and sounds great. My only complaint is an almost inaudible hum coming out of my speakers.

Sonido de gama alta a precio de gama de entrada!

By Adolfo Soto on March 15, 2020

SSL2+ Audio Interface

By Jack Rabbit from Mississippi Delta on April 15, 2024 Music Background: Lifelong acoustic guitarist, vocalist, and most importantly Songwriter Singer.

Very pleased with throughput and output. It is a plug and play and recommend it to new users and general purpose home studios. Rendered tracks sound great.

Best In class

By John Coutts from Medford New Jersey on May 11, 2023 Music Background: Journeyman Musician

I am very impressed with this little interface. As you would expect, Solid State Logic can put quality into an entry-level product. I will inform you that along with all the five-star ratings concerning how great these SSL interfaces are that there are 36 used ones for sale at Reverb.com. many more than any other pre-owned interfaces they sell. Something to consider.

Good ergonomics!

By Samuel Halperin from Marlton, NJ on February 15, 2023

This interface is really easy to use, and I like how it doesn't require a console app. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the buttons are a little cheap feeling, especially the phantom power, line level, and high-z buttons. The knobs are high quality.

Great Interface

By Feliz A from SF on October 29, 2021 Music Background: Former Pro

I've had the SSL2+ for about a year and it's a great piece of gear. Sound quality is great, design is simple and construction quality is high. 4k definitely adds some subtle sparkle to mics.
Really the only negative is the lack of a power switch which bothers me more than I expected. Hopefully next generation of this interface that's resolved.

SSL 2+ & M1 Mac Mini Strik agen.

By Star from Rapid City, SD on March 4, 2021 Music Background: Long time beginner

The SSL 2+ works with M1 Mac Mini in Logic Pro, GarageBand, and Motu DP 10. I'm not saying how will thy work but thy do work. The MacMini is a 16 gb 1 TB and it dose every thing I won't, I all so have used with a 2013 Mac Pro and a 2019 MacBook Pro and other then a little bit of fuse and a call to Sweetwater Tech it all wins will.

Christmas Gift

By Dad Guitar on January 12, 2021

My awesome wife got me the SSL2+ for Christmas. We were worried that it would be arrive late because of everything happening & the holiday rush but Sweetwater delivered promptly. I was able to register the product before the new year & the extra plugins activated.

It's my first real interface & it's been flawless, build quality is good, the pots feel great but the buttons feel a little subpar compared to the knobs. The sound is exceptional but maybe the headroom isn't the highest so really high output pickups might clip the input too much, I have Dimarzio DP704 in the bridge & when I hit too hard it will clip a little even at minimum gain Line + Hi-Z engaged. The extra headphone out is a valuable addition.

Oh for an ADAT out

By Sweetwater Customer on March 23, 2020

Very nice unit—and at the price, incredible. The big drawback to me though is the lack of an ADAT and/or 1/4" analog line out for each channel so that these two fine channels can be integrated into the rest of one's studio.

Cheap switches ?

By Sweetwater Customer on September 21, 2021

Sounds great works well and the bonus plug ins are nice, BUT after less than one year the input switches have become noisy and even stop working untill they are moved , not very good in a high vibration(loud ) jam space as you can easily miss a take as the chanel stops working. I guess you get what you pay for.

Fantastic!

By Brian Jones from Norfolk, VA on March 12, 2020 Music Background: Musician, engineer

As soon as I saw a promo video for this I wanted it. Been using it with a AKG 414, and it sounds tremendous especially with the 4k button engaged. Love the footprint and it's in the bag and on the go. A+ for sure. Headphones are loud enough for me to play drums over so they have some gain. :)

I mean, for what it costs, it's great, but it's really cheaply made and hasn't held up.

By Samuel Halperin from Marlton, NJ on January 2, 2024

I've used this interface extensively for 2 years. It just hasn't held up. The buttons are starting to go. It's really cheaply made. I have a Scarlett 2i2 that I don't use as much, but that is just more heavily built.

Other than that, the features are great. The direct monitoring is much easier to use than on the 2i2. The extra outputs (3 and 4) have come in handy in some situations. It sounds fine, although I can't really hear the difference in all of the low end interfaces I've owned. The meters are basic but workable. The pots, although again, very cheap, seem fine.

I think my next interface is going to be rackmount with some more channels. I'm now very wary of the all plastic construction, and looking for something a bit better built.

inputs are starting to crap out on me already and ive only had since last year.

By Alexander Vice from DENVER, CO on March 1, 2023

Sounds good when it works.. inputs are crackling after less then a year

Probably just a fluke

By Sweetwater Customer on November 9, 2022

My SSL2+ seems to have a major ground buzz issue. Some times I have to squeeze the top plate of case to get it to go away. It's a weird thing and probably just my box. Other than that it's been a great io.

Integrating into a new system

By Kevin Labbe from Denver CO on June 18, 2021 Music Background: Equivilant of Masters degree in performanc, arranging for small groups.

Sounds as good as my Steinberg UR22 but changed over to the Solid State Logic SSL2+ because it featured a dual headphone monitoring capability which is perfect for bedroom recording studio, because you don't want any more than two people in a room that small at a time anyway. Love the big accessible rotatory pots and selector switches on the top of the unit but maybe it's just me but you still have to stand up to get that overview of the console's layout when your setting it on top of your second piano keyboard. May have to tilt it more on a slanted block. I don't have that problem with the Vertical face of the UR22. Lets face it there really no convenient place to set an audio interface for a DAW Studio. until someone can come up with a computer monitor that has one built into it.
I'd be looking pretty hard at that. honestly I expect it to perform as good a sound quality as my Steinberg but I have yet to work with it on my new system. Software authorization problems on windows 10 not pertaining to the Solid State Logic 2+ . It's driver install went painlessly. So I give it an OK so far

Everything is great about the interface... Except...

By Daniel Look from Farmington, MN on August 10, 2020

Build quality is quite decent for the price range. It's visually a nice looking unit that fits nice on my desktop and is light enough to carry. The sound quality on play back is on par with most of the others budget interfaces too, but... the sound quality while recording is extremely poor on my unit. I've used some very decent mics on this thing and the levels seems to either be way to much or not enough. More so leaning towards being too hot and peeks way too much to the point the vocals are unusable. The 4K has no bearing on the outcome as well. It might be a defective unit but I won't be using it for vocals at all. I have used the same mics and artists with my Apollo, Pro40, and 2i2 and none of them have ever given me this problem. Hopefully I can get the unit fixed but This is the only portable interface I have left.

Quarter inch input broke after one year

By sean dahlman from Boise, ID on February 20, 2022

This interface sounds amazing! But the quarter inch input did stop working.
Not the biggest deal. I use XLR adapters to go around the issue. Just a little disappointment that some aspects of the hardware didn't last a year.

Underwhelmed

By paul mata from Helotes, TX on March 29, 2024 Music Background: home recording, band

I purchased this about two years ago. I wish I'd bought it from sweetwater, because I probably could have returned it. About a year into using it the buttons that select "Line" and "Hi-Z" started acting up. They feel cheap and loose and they are. I was trying to record vocals and was having issues with really low volume. That's when I realized that the buttons weren't locking in place. This was causing the volume issues. Now, another year later, the buttons for both inputs have stopped working completely. I do not record often. These were not overused by any means. The build quality of the unit feels durable, except for those absolutely vital buttons.

It was great, but the buttons are low quality.

By Sasha from GA on March 29, 2024 Music Background: Keys, harmonica, producer, engineer

I haven't moved it around much or anything. just standard daily use. Just touching phantom power, line, and other buttons cause the signal to break up as if there's a bad wire. I may have to replace it with something else. And even when the buttons do work, they're very low profile. so pressed or not pressed is hard to differentiate.

Not suitable for recording

By Steven Pr from ACTON, MA on August 23, 2023 Music Background: Guitarist, songwriter, producer

I chose this product because it had 2 headphone outputs. But my experience with it has been terrible. Both audio channels output noise, even at low levels, so the signal is not suitable for professional recording. I've seen people comment that you just have to turn everything down, but I still get noise without even plugging anything into it. And it makes the Hi-Z function absolutely useless, because that it where the most noise comes from. The only way to minimize the noise is to have the input signal so low that it is fairly useless for production purposes. Even with everything off/down, it still puts out noise.
Yes, it's easy to setup and use. I like the look of it. I love having 2 headphones. But it is not functional, which is the absolute baseline for any musical product.

Flaky after a year and a half

By Sweetwater Customer on July 24, 2023

After one year of light use, I noticed the gain knob crackling and the 3 switches on top for +48V Line and Hi-Z were intermittent. Just barely touching the switches resulted in pops. I tried contacting support but they offered no assistance. I attempted to clean the switches, but that effort was temporary. Ultimately, I moved on from this device and went with another name brand.

No Longer Working

By Kellen Malloy from Los Angeles, CA on December 20, 2022

Was great while it worked. I've had nothing but issues the last 2 days getting it to connect and now it no longer plays audio from my MacBook Pro nor my Windows PC. Weird buzzing sound in both headphone and monitor channels. Very disappointed. I was really expecting better from SSL.

Maybe a dud?

By Conner Hancock from SEATTLE, WA on July 14, 2022

The main outputs on my SSL 2+ are loose and I'll start hearing electric buzzing from my speakers and I have to angle my cables just right to stop.

Also when I turn on my oven hood vent, there's a bunch of buzzing and popping from my speakers and there's signal going in channel 1

Returning this. Otherwise it seems like a great interface

Poorly Built, Average Sound Quality

By Sweetwater Customer from California on February 12, 2020

I recently received, and thereafter returned, this unit. I bought the unit new from Sweetwater. Here are some observations for prospective buyers:

The unit I received had a defective 48v phantom power button that had apparently been installed without a spring, so that it was nearly impossible to engage and disengage. More troubling, however, was the fact that the remainder of the buttons didn't feel much better. They had a cheap feel to them, and though they worked, it seemed likely that they too would have likely malfunction soon enough.
The other issue is that the sound quality is merely average. Using an LDC microphone, the sound was clear but perhaps what would be expected in an interface at this price point. Engaging the 4K button added a bit of high frequency air which didn't sound all that good (at least on the spoken voice), and not much else. There is a high noise floor when the gain is turned up past 2 o'clock. I compared the unit to admittedly more expensive units: an RME UCX, a Sound Devices MixPre 3 II, and an Apollo Twin Mk2. All three were far superior in clarity and frequency range.
Also, the SSL unit is quite large and quite light. It's bigger than it needs to be and feels insubstantial. It's the same size as the RME UCX, and twice as big as the MixPre. Given the overall build quality, I wouldn't want to throw the unit into a pack for portable use. Also, the combo jacks on the back are of the non-locking variety and not particularly solid. The metering on the unit is very basic and imprecise, and is useful only for avoiding clipping levels.

On the positive side of things, the unit works well with Mac and the latest version of IOS on an Ipad Pro. The pots on the unit seem to be of good quality and rotate smoothly. The headphone outputs are clear and seem to have plenty of power to drive average phones.

There are a lot of very good quality interfaces on the market at the... price point, and most are built to a higher standard than this SSL unit. I would avoid this interface, at least until the quality control is sorted.

SSL2+ FAILS

By Lilian Chacar from MIAMI, FL on July 14, 2023

Hello friends, I want to tell you that I acquired this interface in 2021, but this year it has started to give me some errors, to be specific with the buffer size, when I set the buffer size to 2048 it presents glitches and does not work, in that buffer size it should literally My pc can let off steam a bit, I've already tried everything, I even tried my interface on another pc, even with more requirements than mine, a more powerful PC and it presents the same glitch error when I run it at 2048 and sometimes at 1024 that usually happens too! !
